alright I've got to do some quick math to explain attitudes towards AI to my boss.
we're looking to create an AI policy, and when we were talking about this, my boss (older millennial) was genuinely shocked to hear that younger people do not (seem) to view AI positively (a la the recent commencement speakers being booed)
please rb for larger sample size!
Question 1/3
What is your age, and do you feel AI is a net positive or net negative in our lives today?
under 18, AI is a net positive
under 18, AI is a net negative
18-29, AI is a net positive
18-29, AI is a net negative
30-45, AI is a net positive
30-45, AI is a net negative
46-60, AI is a net positive
46-60, AI is a net negative
over 60, AI is a net postive
over 60, AI is a net negative
Question 2/3
How often do you visit or interact with museums/archives (whether in person or online)?
Frequently (multiple times per month)
Often (multiple times per year)
Occasionally (a couple times per year)
Rarely (once every couple of years)
Never :(
Question 3/3
If you saw a museum was using AI in exhibits, marketing, research, etc., would you be more or less inclined to visit that museum?
under 18, more inclined
under 18, less inclined
18-29, more inclined
18-29, less inclined
30-45, more inclined
30-45, less inclined
46-60, more inclined
46-60, less inclined
over 60, more inclined
over 60, less inclined
Thank you for helping with this data collection. Please rb for as big a sample as possible!

dead serious normalize having an average boring ass life where you have enough to meet your needs we do not need to be remarkable we just need to be alive
Shout out to the autistic whoās abilities have regressed as theyāve gotten older.
āYou didnāt used to be like this when you were a kid.ā I know please donāt remind me
"This never bothered you when you were a kid."
Yes it did. I just let it slide because I was taught that I'm "too sensitive" anytime something bothered me. But now I'm finally standing up for myself.
"You never struggled with this when you were a kid."
Yes I did. I just burned myself out in order to do it so I wouldn't be punished. But now I'm accepting myself enough to not force myself to do what I was never meant to do.
"You didn't have these problems when you were younger."
Yes, I did. I just spent my child/teen years with structured institutions like school while not having to worry about whether I had a roof over my head or food to eat and spent my early adult years using up every bit of adrenaline I will ever have to ignore the fact that I've been chronically burnt out my whole life.
OK. Creative academia/studying humans I might need some help with an explanation of something.
I got some of my final grades back today and WOW does this not make sense.
Fantasy module. Brilliant. Wonderful. Nothing less than a 70 - so naturally I get a good balance of positive feedback and things to improve on.
Creative essay. 6,000 words. Written concurrently with the above piece by the same human being. Got the lowest grade I have EVER received on a piece of creative work. Likewise with the writers reflection. Lowest grade ever. Equal to my truly terrible first year poetry (65). But my feedback only has one point of improvement and is largely positive.
I am going to lose my first because of this.
I am trying to tell myself itās not the subject matter I was writing about because that shouldnāt impact grades but I am really struggling here. Is there a mechanism for challenging grades at uni? Or must I accept my fate and realise Iām never going to study again however much I was really considering a masters.

pride month!!!
Is that a miette?
Pride for you!Ā Pride for a thousand years!!
you COME OUT to miette? you come out to her as queer? oh! oh! pride for mother! pride for mother for One Thousand Years!!!!
Today in the duality of man.
I would like to be an academic. I want to do a masters degree, and a PhD and study stuff for the rest of my life.
On the other handā¦I have an essay due in about 24hrs. I have 600 words of it. I took a day off for the heatwave and thought Iād survived unscathed buuuut the chronic illness has kicked in. I can barely keep my eyes open even post nap. My ears are ringing. I am forgetting sentences as I type them, and I am yet to cite a single source, including the two plays Iām analysing. I do not want to be an academic right now. My body is a bit busy being ill.
If I fail my undergraduate degree, and subsequently wreck my future career hopes, after 8 years because of the timing of one heatwave causing a flare I am going to be extremely annoyed. But also - sleep.
I need a Time Machine.
IT IS FINISHED.
Sleep did not win and the essay was technically 24hrs late buuut itās a Saturday - itās not like it was getting marked before Monday anyway! It is also not particularly good. Like definite if I got below a 65 Iād kind of get why territory. But itās done.
Anyone whoās randomly stuck around since the maladapted medic days knows that me getting to the end of a degree kind of feels like a miracle thatās not quite real. The sleep deprivation probably isnāt helping with that.
8yrs. On and off. But 8yrs of undergrad is over until graduation. Iām graduating!
Wtf am I supposed to do now?
Other than sleep.
Give it at least at year and then Iāll maybe think about the masters degree.

the day is gonna end anyway and your warm bed will be waiting so you might as well do the hard things and not let them ruin your day
this is unironically how I push myself to do everything I dread
I know I sound like your mom but you kids need to stop fucking vaping
1) Vaping is confirmed to cause cancer. Vaping coats the lungs with toxic substances, such as heavy metals and benzene, which are known to cause cancer
2) Many vapes contain diacetyl, which, when inhaled causes popcorn lung, or scarring of the lung
3) Ultrafine particles, when being inhaled, can be lodged in the trachea (not good!)
4) Ultrafine particles can also constrict the arteries in the lungs potentially causing A HEART ATTACK
5) Vaping is relatively new. Not much studies have been done in comparison to tobacco. Plus, the vaping companies are powerful people. There is a large chance that they are purposely downplaying and even burying any evidence that vaping is harmful - just like the tobacco companies before them. They do not care about you, or your health, or the truth. They only care for money
Also STOP VAPING INDOORS AROUND OTHER PEOPLE. Holy shit, if you're gonna wreck your lungs at least give me the option not to wreck mine.
Itās such an issue that the MTA had to run a campaign about it
yeah okay ill reblog that
Please Iām begging yall as an asthmatic, your fruit-flavored vapor will still give people around you who are smoke-sensitive attacks. So will weed. Donāt do it inside; if youāre at a bus stop or something try to not stand right next to people or move downwind of them if you can.
They also use cheap batteries and heating elements - especially the single use ones. And they fail.
They fail by blowing up.
You might think having something blow up in extremely close proximity to your face would be a bad experience. You would be correct. You might think companies manufacturing these things would take note of that and fix it, or be forced to by government regulators. You would (unfortunately) be very sensible and incorrect.
You might ask how I know this.
One day I was a (mostly) innocent 111 call handler (UK medical non emergency helpline) fielding my usual calls from confused elderly people asking about medication and concerned parents with vomiting babies, and a guy called up, got connected to me, and told me his Vape blew up in his face whilst he was using it. It is one of only 3 instances in 8 months of 12hr shifts I put my red card in the air to get a paramedic stood next to me straight away. He had airway burns - all the tissue from his lips to his lungs was swelling slowly and he didnāt understand what was happening. He was dying slowly and he didnāt know. He didnāt understand it was an emergency. I have dealt with several CPR calls infinitely less terrifying than trying to explain to someone they literally should have been in A&E yesterday - both me and the paramedic werenāt actually sure how he hadnāt collapsed yet. I donāt remember a lot of callers but I remember him. I hope heās alright.
Donāt vape. If you use one for medical reasons (medical cannabis, nicotine alternatives etc) check that the vape is made by a reputable manufacturer that has done safety checks and keep an eye on any recalls. Harm reduction is a thing here too! If you need to change the battery regularly - do that, if the heating element starts looking/smelling different, donāt use it unless you are sure itās safe.

one time in college i was in a creative writing class and this guy was holding up the critique with what i can only describe as like cinemasins dinging another student's writing. and at some point the professor said "the plot is the fork and the prose is the meal. you are critiquing the taste of the fork"
I have to assume that in the fullness of time, at least once, a mouse has used a mushroom as an umbrella.
Thatās enough to keep me going.
@cryptonatureāā Man do I have good news for you!
Also! Bonus frog!
It is not an accommodating access arrangement if there are consequences for the disabled person should they choose to use it.
This is brought to you by a disabled uni student who has been a registered undergraduate for 8yrs at this point. I have switched courses because of my medical conditions, and not being able to get the accommodations I needed to finish the first degree I started.
Youāll never guess what situation Iām in now!
I have 18 days to complete 3 assignments. If I donāt get them done in that time, no ifs, no buts, I wonāt graduate this summer.
There are no exceptions made for those with automatic deadline extensions as part of their reasonable adjustments.
I cannot hard work my medical conditions away. I just canāt. I can get the work done. I will make myself sick - Iām already starting to feel it. Iām not eating or sleeping properly. Iām starting to struggle walking my dog. My assistance dog. Who is now alerting every few hours at least. The harder I work, the sicker I get, and ironically the worse that work will be.
I might finish my degree, but I will be forced to finish it with a worse grade. Or - get the grade I know Iām capable of, but never get to experience a graduation ceremony with all the people Iāve worked with for years.
This isnāt fair. It isnāt accessible. It isnāt equity. I am genuinely considering never being anywhere near higher education ever again, because as much as I love what I do, and I want to do a masters (and then a PhD), what Iām really learning is that no one actually cares. My accommodations will be removed as soon as itās inconvenient for an institution for me to need them.
"Why do you buy books when the library is right there?"
Because publishing houses will not continue printing paper books if libraries are their only customers.
Also, I like being able to read at my leisure and generally have books at hand.
#public libraries are good because they let people access books they might never otherwise read#private book ownership is good because it's Yours#physical books are good because they last a long time and again it's Yours#ebooks are good because you can fit a whole library into the physical space of a single book and they're cheaper to produce#audiobooks are good because they're accessible to people with eyesight or visual reading issues and leave your hands free#in conclusion: all books are good and people should enjoy them however and whenever they can#(lest it be misunderstood I agree with you completely OP I just also really like books in general and it got away from me)
YES. all books. every kind

"But what if people will pretend to need this accessibility option so they can be lazy! People who don't need it will use it!!" I don't actually care
I dont care if 9/10 of the people who use the wheelchair ramp arent actually in wheelchairs. As long as the 1 person who needs it has access to it.
I dont care if 9/10 people who use the automatic push button on the library door can actually push the door open themselves. As long as the 1 person who the door is too heavy for gets to use it.
I dont care if 9/10 people who buy the can tab opener, or the little guitar clamp that holds the chords for you, or the hand grip that helps you hold chop sticks, don't need any of it and just get it to "be lazy". As long as the one disabled person who needs it gets access to it.
I do not care. Oh my GOD I do not care. As long as there's a disabled person on this planet who the accessibility device will benefit, the accessibility device is necessary.
Also, if you're so worried about people being "lazy" by using accessibility devices, MORE worried than you are about disabled (visibly or not) people not having access to them, you have unchecked ableism you need to work through.
