i feel like some of my most radical takes tend to be about the psychiatric/mental health “industrial complex” and like i am very very solid in my convictions but i feel like much of the world isn’t ready for it yet… any time i see someone who thinks about it the way i do they get attacked as being anti-psych meds and invalidating people’s suffering and mental illness but like thats not what we mean 😭

tbh i think that, with maybe just a very few exceptions, most mental illnesses can be viewed thru a lens of the brain and body trying to manage in a world that literally makes us sick—constant live streamed human rights crises, genocides, climate crisis, on top of exploitative governments, state sanctioned violence, poverty, instability and insecurity—like literally anyone would be sick in this world!!! i feel like the mental health industrial complex ends up turning what i think are mostly social and environmental issues into an individual issue/failing that requires highly individualized treatments (psych meds). interestingly the “science” behind these meds rests on the “chemical imbalance” theory for depression etc. but this theory has actually been proven to be false. ppl with mental illnesses often have similar hormone levels. so if the meds don’t work it’s probably your fault. and also there’s nothing else anyone can do for you lol.

idk random ramble but i just think there’s a lot of issues and lies and exploiting mental health conditions with treatments that work no better than placebos (and this is NOT me saying meds don’t work! they’ve helped MANY people and that is not nothing!!! if it helps it HELPS!!!) and little to no social support for those who might see the most improvement with that type of support (social, family, environmental, empowering ppl to make the changes that would be felt the most in their life)

anyway that’s my random rant for the day been sitting on it a while so here u go. do you have thoughts about this topic?? i would love to talk about it if you do!!!

soooo ready to go home only 30 more mins then since i have saturday off for 4th of july i have thursday-sunday off work yaaaay

my problematic coworker got a little sassy with me this morning because i asked him yo help a patron who was standing around looking like she needed help while i was busy w someone else. well apparently he had already helped her but i just missed that part—i just noticed someone looking like she needed help. i apologized but also like!!!! maybe i wouldn’t be so panicky next to you and hyper aware of who needs help because he literally WILL just stare into space if i don’t ask him to help someone who needs it!!! like mayb don’t be like that and i wont run on the assumption that i need to micromanage you (which i don’t want to do but when ppl need help they need to be helped if someone is available)

finally break time been busy at work trying a new sign in process for study rooms so it’s been… a bit involved. i think it can help but i hope it smooths out to be more self regulating so we won’t have to be as involved once ppl get used to the process

this older lady came into work today and kept talking about how she had to miss doing things she likes to do because her husband didn’t want to do them and i kept being like just do it yourself like wtf why are you letting this sad mediocre man get in the way of you having fun

first day on extended release went okay i think i like it??

that congressman who just came back after being completely AWOL for 3 months with no communication or photos says he was in the hospital for 3 months with depression??? i simply can’t believe that unless he was in some weird long term mental health facility but honestly i think he is lying and was maybe in rehab instead

i’ve just never heard of anyone being i. the hospital for 3 months for depression.

but also let’s talk about how congressmen get 3 months PTO for being “depressed” but the rest of us get treated like it’s a personal and moral failure for being depressed

feeling concerned about my medicaid stuff rn and worried it won’t be resolved before they cut my benefits and i won’t have access to my health insurance

watching matilda, tbh ms. honey was my first crush…. and still to this day…

i just don’t know why they wouldn’t simply ask me to verify my income before moving straight to terminating my benefits

i requested a hearing online and also checked boxes asking them to try and resolve the “conflict” without/before a state hearing. not sure when or how that will be

just got mail saying g my medicaid benefits are being terminated bc my “income isn’t verified” even tho i sent them all the documents they needed and sent them pay stubs at the beginning of the year. now i have to fucking appeal the decision. i’m so upset and mad and worried. i can’t fucking afford health insurance so i’m fucked if they won’t reinstate my benefits.
