You don't have to memorize all this stuff
You don't have to memorize the tarot cards. I've been reading tarot near 14 years and I still look up the meanings, all the time.
You don't have to memorize lists of stones and herbs.
You don't have to memorize color meanings.
You don't have to memorize the Wheel of the Year.
You don't have to memorize constellations, planets, houses, and signs.
You don't have to memorize spell rituals.
You don't have to memorize charms or incantations.
You don't have to memorize prayers or hymns.
Give your brain a lil smooch and thank it for all the hard work it does, then release it from carrying the heavy burden of rote memorization.
Scrying is moving through these tags again this week, a few people posting their first mirror and water readings. And the most common how-to you find stops at gaze into the surface and wait, which is exactly why people sit for twenty minutes, see nothing, and decide they cannot do it. The technique that matters is in the parts nobody mentions.
Start with the gaze, because this is where most of it goes wrong. You are not staring. A hard stare fights you, your eyes water, you blink, you reset, and you never settle. What you want is a soft, slightly unfocused gaze that looks through the surface rather than at it, the way your eyes drift past a window to the street beyond the glass. The surface should lose its hard edge and go a little vague.
Then the surface starts to change, and beginners almost always misread what happens next. Within a few minutes it tends to cloud, go smoky, darken, or seem to breathe. People take that as their eyes playing tricks, snap back to a sharp focus to check, and that ends it. The clouding is the doorway, not a glitch. Part of it is simply your vision softening on a featureless field, and that softening is the exact state you are trying to reach. Let it fog over and keep your attention loose inside the fog.
It also helps to know what a vision is actually like, because the expectation is the thing that blinds you. It is almost never a clear picture floating in the glass. It is shifting shapes, a color that was not there a second ago, a shadow moving against the grain, a face that assembles for a moment and dissolves. Sometimes it is not visual at all, just a feeling, a word in the mind, or a flat knowing. If you are holding out for a sharp image, you will look straight past the real signal, which tends to be quiet and partial.
A lot of what people call a block is really the setup. Work in low light with a single candle placed behind you or off to the side, never throwing a bright reflection straight into the surface. Use a black mirror or a dark bowl of water set on a dark cloth. Sit so you cannot see your own face clearly in the surface, because a sharp reflection of yourself locks your eyes at the glass instead of through it. Fix the light and the angle and half the I cannot scry problem tends to disappear.
On patience, the honest number is that most people need somewhere between five and twenty sessions before a first real impression. The early sittings where nothing happened are not failures. They are you teaching your eyes and your attention to hold the soft state without bailing out the moment it gets strange. Ten quiet minutes a few times a week will take you further than one heroic hour.
There is a discernment line worth holding too. Not everything you see is a message. Floaters, the afterimage of the candle, the surface graying out, that is ordinary eye behavior and it is the doorway, not the content. The scried material is what comes through that state, the shape that carries meaning, the word, the pull toward something. You learn the difference by keeping a log and only trusting what recurs or genuinely lands.
When you break the gaze, write it down immediately, before your mind tidies it into a tidy story. Do not interpret in the chair. Scrying hands you raw, half-formed material, and the meaning comes later, on the page, with a little distance. The skill was never seeing harder. It is letting the surface go soft and staying in the room while it does.
this is definitely one of the better explanations regarding scrying that i have read
hey so the reason new age spirituality sucks is because it focuses way too much on individual salvation instead of community health.
new agers believe that the key to happiness is "increasing your vibration" to reach 5D ascension or whatever - and the only way to achieve that is to isolate yourself from "toxic" people, buy expensive crystals, pay for pseudoscientific healing therapies, and perpetuate the idea that **you** are the sole being responsible for your own health & wellbeing. all the while ignoring things like global warming. war. racism. sexism. corrupt politics.
because why would you care about the things that are impacting you, and future generations, when you believe that you can simply save yourself by giving ~love and light~ and "raise your vibration" high enough to simply leave this earthly plane?
its the rapture, repackaged. simple as that.
let's bring the focus back to our communities. quit the meditation and reality scripting for two seconds and bake your neighbor some cookies. call up your friends and family and check in on them. advocate to make our world a better place, here and now.
/rant over.
I couldnāt agree more. Itās the exact same shit as the Prosperity Gospel. If you get rich enough it means god loves you and you donāt have to do any of that boring laborious shit like being a good neighbor or helping people or participating in your community. Itās a cop-out for people who want all the psychological rewards of being Spiritually Elevated without doing all the hard work of actually being spiritual.
made some sun salt yesterday āļø
really easy: powdered dried orange peel & sunflower, mixed in salt and a drop of solar oil. sunstone placed on the surface and set it in a sunny window.
i only get sun for part of the day, so iāll keep mine soaking for seven days. if i had all-day sun, just one day would be enough imo

Here's a really simple magical act that I have found to be ridiculously effective.
On one side of one sheet of paper, write out your boundaries with the spirit world.
Examples include:
I do not consent to any "spiritual lessons" which have not been explicitly discussed with me.
I am not "up for grabs" by random deities passing by. There is no relationship unless I consent to it. I work with the following deities...
I do not require any additional suffering, and I do not consent to it; life is hard enough, thank you very much.
If you want to "help," maybe get me more money. If you want to hurt, may I recommend one of our country's billionaires?
My spiritual goals are x, y, and z.
I came to this reality to X, and not to Y.
Add any terms you like, just stick to one page, and keep it legible.
Then just stick it into your wallet and forget about it. I have a wallet phone case, and some people believe that the phone is a magical object. When off, it's a black mirror. When on, it is full of electricity (bottled lightning). And it is definitely a portal of a kind. But I think just having it on your person all the time is sufficient. When spirits approach, point to the paper. If need be, take it out and read it (doing this before entering a magical gathering is also helpful).
The Pride Shrine & Altar is now done enough to publish! It's live over on my website, and you can click right here to visit it.
It's got:
Resources for learning, sharing, and activism
Prompts for journaling, grimoires/book of shadows, and divination
A dedicated guestbook to leave nice notes for the community
A spell designed to collect energy via click and share it with others as blessings for good fortune, comfort, and self love
Ideas for getting involved in the community and also random acts of kindness
Dark mode/light mode theme toggles
It will eventually have:
Spells for gender affirmation, happiness, confidence
Sigils for protection and to be gendered correctly
More themes based on pride flags

Fixed mobile layout (I thought it was working and now it isn't!)
I'm pretty happy with it so far! I'm hoping to make several more large updates in the next week or two, but it'll be a constant WIP as I add and update things.
Little things that feel like spells:
the sound of wind in trees like they're whispering secrets
old keys with no doors to open
puddles that look like portals if you stare long enough
half-finished poems tucked into coat pockets
dusty attics where forgotten memories nap
candlelight flickering like itās trying to talk
tea leaves swirling like theyāre casting fortunes
cloudy days that turn the world into a watercolor
finding feathers in strange places like a bird witch left them behind

Magic Squares
Magic squares (also known as kameas) are mathematical grids in which the numbers in every horizontal, vertical, and diagonal row add up to the exact same constant value. In planetary rituals, they function as geometric representations of divine cosmic order and are used to capture, channel, and direct the specific spiritual energies of the seven classical planets.
The Mathematical Structure
Each planet is assigned a square based on its specific Qabalistic number, which dictates the size and numerical sum of the grid:
Saturn: A 3x3 grid (summing to 15 per row, totaling 45)
Jupiter: A 4x4 grid (summing to 34 per row, totaling 136)
Mars: A 5x5 grid (summing to 65 per row, totaling 325)
The Sun: A 6x6 grid (summing to 111 per row, totaling 666)
Venus: A 7x7 grid (summing to 175 per row, totaling 1225)
Mercury: An 8x8 grid (summing to 260 per row, totaling 2080)
The Moon: A 9x9 grid (summing to 369 per row, totaling 3321)
Deriving Sigils and Spirit Names
One of the main ritual uses of a kamea is the construction of magical seals, or sigils, representing planetary spirits, intelligences, or even the names of specific human targets.
To create a sigil, a practitioner translates the letters of a specific name into their numerical values, often using Hebrew gematria or the Aiq Beker cipher method. If a letter yields a number too high to fit on the grid (such as 30 or 300), the zeros are dropped so that the number reduces to a usable digit (like 3). The magician then draws a continuous line on the magic square, connecting the numbers in the exact order they appear in the name. The resulting geometric shape becomes a powerful, synthetic seal that serves as the "true name" or energetic essence of that spirit or individual.
Empowering Talismans
Once the planetary square and its corresponding sigils are formulated, they are utilized to physically ground celestial energy into talismans. According to historical texts like those of Cornelius Agrippa, these squares are engraved onto specific planetary metals during highly auspicious astrological times. For example:
An empowered Jupiter square engraved on a silver plate brings financial gain, favor, and peace.
A Mars square engraved on an iron plate or a sword makes the bearer victorious in battle and terrible to their enemies.
A Venus square engraved on silver promotes love, heals melancholy, and dissolves enchantments.
Fortunate vs. Unfortunate Rituals
Magic squares can be utilized for both beneficial and baneful rituals depending on the astrological timing of their creation. If a square is constructed when its ruling planet is astrologically "unfortunate," it channels destructive and restrictive forces instead of positive ones. An unfortunate Mars square engraved on red brass casts people down from power and causes discord, while an unfortunate Moon square engraved on lead brings misfortune to whatever place it is buried, forcing inhabitants to flee.
Reminder that:
The Christianization of Europe and the witch hunts are two completely separate things.
The witch hunts took place in the early modern period, well after Europe was Christianized.
The witch hunts were driven by conspiracy theories. It's literally a predecessor of QAnon.
Many conspiracy theories of the witch hunts were repurposed antisemitic conspiracy theories. (For example, blood libel and Satan worship.)
Lots of Christians practiced folk magic. They didn't usually call themselves witches.
Witchcraft was associated with polytheistic religions by Christians. Polytheists didn't call themselves witches. Whatever they were doing, they had their own words for it.
Modern witchcraft is a modern construct. It is not a revival of a genuine pre-Christian tradition of any kind.
Modern witchcraft cannot be "colonized" because it's literally a modern creation made by white people. However, modern witches are capable of doing colonialism, such as when they promote pseudohistory about other cultures.
tiny money jars worked immediately that it scared me :')
ingredients
bay leaf (abundance)
white rice grains (prosperity)
salt (cleansing, protection)
thyme (purification, protection)
moonstone (manifestation)
white quartz (amplifier, cleansing, protection)
i sealed the top off with a green paper and used green ink to write my sigil (amplification), then tied it off. all the ingredients used are just things lying around the house. one of them is placed on my table where i work, and the other is something i can bring around.
i used a lot of protection symbols because i realized that there are so many ways to earn money if you trade off your peace, energy, and integrity. i could be hired into a good-paying job that takes advantage of me, come across opportunities to steal from others, or get a high-paying client that disrespects me ā those are things i didn't want to happen.
cleansing motifs are to clear up the factors that prevent the spell from working as you'd like.
supporting spells. put a bayleaf with a fehu rune written on it in places where you typically put your money in (e.g., wallet, coin purse, coin bank).

š Beach magic š
As summer is approaching, I thought I'd post about my witchcraft practice at the beach...
š Use the sea water to cleanse your body and soul. Breathe in deeply, dive in, and spend a few seconds underwater to recite in your head "I'm getting rid of anything that isn't serving me, and release it all to the ocean".
š Draw sigils onto the sand. It's a simple one, but can be quite powerful, especially if you keep on drawing it repeatedly as you sunbathe.
š Whisper a protection spell as you apply suncream. This isn't just about protecting yourself from UV light. This simple act of self-care can ward off much more than that.
š Collect shells for your altar. I think this one is my favourite. I'm always on the lookout for small items with strong significance to decorate my altar. Shells are the perfect items to have in preparation for Midsummer.
š Sand has a strong association to time. Use it for any spells that require you to slow down and be in the present. Depending on where you are, the sand between your hands may be a thousand years old!
š Meditate at sunrise, facing towards the ocean. Repeat wishes and manifestations while breathing in the salt air. If you ask something of the waves, you might just get it.
š Keep ocean water in a jar, and only use it for your most potent spells. Ocean water is associated with vastness, fear, power, life, protection. Use it wisely.

Fixed Stars ā The astrological meanings of all the most important stars in our nightās sky.
In this huge article, I will run through all the fixed stars that I personally look at on a regular basis and what their meanings are when they are linked up to the planets and angles in our natal astrological charts. The stars above us are much maligned and often overlooked, but they should not be as they offer subtlety, extra meanings and colour to any astrological reading. By looking and taking note of them, they can provide the answers to questions where none may be available through looking just at the planets on the Astrological wheel.
The stars do move very slowly, about 1 degree every 70 years, so you should be able to work out where the stars were when you were born. The degrees I have included are correct for the year 2014. I have listed the stars in zodiac degree order from the ones at the start in the sign of Aries through to the last sign Pisces. I hope you will find this a hugely helpful resource to aid you in your own astrological work.
Deneb KaitosĀ Ā Ā 02° 48ā Aries ā In the tail of Cetus the whale, this star is one of limitation, restriction and laziness but it also brings a charitable nature too. It encourages you to face up to your demons or opponents and gives you the strength to overcome them.

One may be drawn to interests and professions where one enters or one leaves, from recruitment and human affairs to medical careers and even undertakers.
DubheĀ Ā Ā 15° 24ā Leo ā Dubhe is the main star in Ursa Major, constellation of the great bear. This star is a gentle one of huge strength, persistence and endurance and if you have this star connected to your planets then you will be able to put up with all manner of problems in a calm and unhurried way. It gives intuition and understanding that what goes up must come down and everything works in cycles, so oneās time and opportunities will always come around again.
Ā Ā Ā AlphardĀ Ā Ā 27° 29ā Leo ā This star sits in the constellation of Hydra, the Serpent. This can be a very turbulent and emotional star and if the energy of it is prevented from being expressed openly then it can provoke extreme violence and tumultuous outbursts of anger and rage. There is great passion and obsession here to take advantage of though, and it can drive one on to great feats and achievements.
