Throwback to all these Jesus comics I drew in 2012âŚ
Good post OP
Good post, OP, and if you ever decide to do another may I please suggest âNOT IN HEBREW IT DOESNâTâ as a punchline? So much of the Old Testament is HORRIFICALLY translated from the Tanakh, it drives me batty.
WAIT WAIT WHAT DOES IT SAY?????? I NEED TO LIKE,, DESTROY MI MUM FOR BEING REALLY HOMOPHOBIC
Okay, so, strictly speaking, the infamous Leviticus 18:22 does say âforbidden.â Hereâs the thing:
1) The word translated as âforbiddenâ is âtoevah.â While that translation isnât ⌠wrong, itâs sort of like saying âMcMansionâ means âreally big house.â There are a lot of connotations in that word. The specific issue with toevah is that we ⌠sort of ⌠donât know anymore exactly what it meant. Based on context, it seems likely that the word referred to something ritually forbidden. This part of Torah was written not only as a guide for future generations, but also to say âso, look around, see your neighbors? DONâT DO THAT.â Thus, if we interpret âtoevahâ to mean something thatâs forbidden to do as a ritual before G-d, then the verse says nothing whatsoever about Adam and Steve and their two kids and their dogâitâs saying you shouldnât have sex with another man in the Temple as a sacrifice.
2) Following the same âthis is ritually forbiddenâ logic of toevah, this verse may also be interpreted as âdonât do sex magic,â which was a thing in. Like. A lot of fucking cultures at the time.
3) Hebrew is a highly gendered language, and the grammatical gender in this verse is really really weird. One of the âmenâ in this verse is given female grammar. Why? Who fucking knows, man, this isnât the only grammatical oddity in Torah. (There are also places where G-d is referred to as plural, and also as female.) One suggestion is that this is a way of creating a diminutiveâthat is, that the verse should be read as âa man should not lie with a boy.â Now, itâs worth noting that modern secular scholarship has concluded the written Torah was written down around the 6th century BCE, and most non-Orthodox Jewish scholars are like âyeah, all things considered, that sounds pretty legit.â
Do you know what else was happening around the 6th century BCE? What laypeople tend to mean when they say âancient Greeceâ was happening.
Do you know what happened a lot in that time period in Greece? Dudes forming relationships with younger boys, like ages 10-15, and using them for sex in exchange for financial gifts, mentorship, etc. While we donât know just how young some of these younger boys may have been, we do know some were prepubescent. In light of this, and also something I mentioned under the first pointââsee your neighbors? DONâT DO THAT,â if this verse is interpreted to say âa man should not lie with a boy,â then itâs pretty clearly âmy dudes, my fellows, my lads, donât be fucking pedophiles.â
4) Because of the grammar I mentioned in #3, itâs also possible that âshould not lie with a man as with a womanâ is actually referring to a place, not an abstract personhood: a man shouldnât have sex with another man in a womanâs bed. In the time period, a womanâs bed was sort of likeâthat was her place, her safe sanctuary. It was also a ritually holy place where babies were made. By having sex in her bed, youâre violating her safe space (and also introducing a man who may not be a male relative, thus forcing her into breaking the laws of modesty). If this verse is read this way, then it should be taken to mean âdonât sexually violate a womanâs safety and modesty.â 5) And as an offshoot of #4, this may be a second verse relating to infidelity. Which womanâs bed is any random dude in 600 BCE most likely to have access to? His wifeâs. But laws were administered differently based on whether the person they pertained to was slave or free, male or female, and so onâthus, a man committing adultery with a woman would be treated differently than man committing adultery with a man (especially because the latter would carry no chance of an illegitimate pregnancy).
So youâll note, there are a lot of ways to read this verse, and only a one-to-one translation with no cultural awareness produces âbeing gay is wrong, all of the timeâ. (Youâll also notice the word âabominationâ is nowhere to be found. Thatâs like ⌠a straight-up fiction created for who only knows what reason.)
Apparently tumblr mobile doesnât want to show @prismatic-bell âs long and in-depth essay, so hereâs the screenshots, because it still shows up on mobile browsers:
Much appreciated.
I love when scholarship and history debunks bullshit
âŚI sadly have more bullshit to report.
âremoved for violating guidelinesâ, EVERY screenshot.
âŚgoddamnit
Letâs try this again
I am horrified that @prismatic-bell keeps getting censored + this info is gold.
Many thanks, @pulmonary-poultry. This isnât the only Jewish post of mine thatâs mysteriously stopped showing up in searches and/or vanished from my blog entirely, but it is the one I get the most requests to repost, so this saves me from having to rewrite the whole damned essay. @the-invisible-self, thanks for bringing it to my attention that someone was able to preserve the post!
Recall uses AI features "to take images of your active screen every few seconds."
I think every computer user needs to read this because holy fucking shit this is fucking horrible.
So Windows has a new feature incoming called Recall where your computer will first, monitor everything you do with screenshots every couple of seconds and "process that" with an AI.
Hey, errrr, fuck no? This isn't merely because AI is really energy intensive to the point that it causes environmental damage. This is because it's basically surveilling what you are doing on your fucking desktop.
This AI is not going to be on your desktop, like all AI, it's going to be done on another server, "in the cloud" to be precise, so all those data and screenshot? They're going to go off to Microsoft. Microsoft are going to be monitoring what you do on your own computer.
Now of course Microsoft are going to be all "oooh, it's okay, we'll keep your data safe". They won't. Let me just remind you that evidence given over from Facebook has been used to prosecute a mother and daughter for an "illegal abortion", Microsoft will likely do the same.
And before someone goes "durrr, nuthin' to fear, nuthin to hide", let me remind you that you can be doing completely legal and righteous acts and still have the police on your arse. Are you an activist? Don't even need to be a hackivist, you can just be very vocal about something concerning and have the fucking police on your arse. They did this with environmental protesters in the UK. The culture war against transgender people looks likely to be heading in a direction wherein people looking for information on transgender people or help transitioning will be tracked down too. You have plenty to hide from the government, including your opinions and ideas.
Again, look into backing up your shit and switching to Linux Mint or Ubuntu to get away from Microsoft doing this shit.
Steps to Disable or Uninstall 'Recall' in Windows 11 24H2
there are multiple options here depending on how comfortable you are digging into your computer's registry. You can either simply disable it surface level through settings or excise it entirely from the system registry
Reblogging so I can do this later. They're coming for the gay comics makers any day now.
PSA:
Acetaminophen/paracetamol has a hard stop upper dose limit, above which it becomes extremely toxic.
That limit is 4g (8 âextra strengthâ (500mg) tablets) in 24 hours (about 2 tablets every 6 hours).
A single dose of 22 extra strength tablets can kill you.
Taking 12 or more tablets per day for more than a week can also kill you (this is about 3 tablets every 6 hours).
Symptoms of overdose take up to 24 hours to manifest, and are fairly difficult to distinguish from other problems. They include abdominal pain (especially right upper quadrant), nausea, malaise, and confusion.
The antidote (n-acetylcystine) must be given within 8hours of ingestion in order to be useful.
After 10 hours the only thing that will work is a liver transplant.
You might think âwhy would I ever accidentally take so much?â
Well, acetaminophen is in almost everything in the cold/flu/pain aisle. Migraine combos like Excedrin, cold and flu combos like NyQuil, basically anything that says ânon-aspirin pain reliefâ, and anything thatâs branded as a fever reducer. Itâs all probably acetaminophen/paracetamol.
So the goal of this post is to get you to read the labels on your medications. Because taking taking Tylenol and NyQuil together for a week (like you might if you had the flu) could kill you.
Please don't forget this shit, after it happened to a family member, he died 8 years later because of the continuing health complications even though he survived the initial overdose
Cannot stress enough how much this is the way.
The call center tech is not your enemy.
The call center tech and you share a common enemy:
Their C-Suite.
Be confused but understanding, polite but adamant. Be kind, but take a while to think about things. And always, always escalate. Escalate as far as you can go. The bosses have the call center to prevent calls from reaching the bosses. You want to reach the bosses. A little bit of inconvenience to an executive is like a dentist's tool on a nerve.

Hey guys something fucking bad happened
KOSA/the kids online safety act has been reintroduced into legislature after it passed Senate last year and then got snubbed. It is not unlike the bill that just passed in the UK a few weeks ago. If you don't want what happened in the UK to happen here, now would be a good time to vocally oppose it.
Here is a petition that can be signed by Americans. Attached to the petition is an easy tool that allows you to call and leave messages for your representatives. I have already done so. You can also email your representatives by searching for their name, most have message submission boards as well. This thing died once, it can die again.
Please sign/share the petition and contact your representatives.
Uk media reporting on the OSA:
Reality:
I don't know how to tell you this but you also have to care about what gets labelled as "porn"
Oh absolutely, but this post is about how the bbc and other major media outlets are presenting it as only affecting websites like pornhub so that criticism of the act can be framed as people wanting children to be able to access websites like pornhub, instead of criticism of wider censorship and defending the right to privacy
Oh my gosh. I just found this website that walks you though creating a believable society. It breaks each facet down into individual questions and makes it so simple! It seems really helpful for worldbuilding!
Heads up that this is a very extensive questionnaire and might be daunting to a lot of writers (myself included). That being said, it is also an amazing questionnaire and I will definitely be using it (or at the very least, some of it).

Sounds like a degree from Columbia, something students pay to attain, is not the long-term guarantee it was once thought to be. Sounds like a good reason to transfer out, not apply there, and never plan to attend. If they can just take your degree away after you've already earned it, what good is it?
And to be clear: this isn't a thing. Serial killers don't get their degrees revoked. War criminals don't get their degrees revoked. This is straight up fascist nonsense that makes a degree from this institution categorically a bad investment.
once I did an Americorps position & I wonât get into exact details but two months in my one other coworker & I were rly frustrated bc we werenât doing anything in our job description or the contract we signed whatsoever & instead we were basically being used as extremely underpaid retail staff and slowly the ppl in charge of us were cornering us more and more into that until I was finally like okayâŚ.what the hell? I opened up the work contract I signed and realized I hadnât done a single thing listed in my role so I sent a long (professionally worded) complaint email to Americorps and they called me an hour later in total outrage because it turned out the work we were being made to do was explicitly prohibited by the program and we were being 100% exploited for cheap labor and the very next day we got a new supervisor and spent the rest of our year doing what we signed up to do and it rocked.

Organised by Peopleâs Union, read more here:
When Donald Trump reentered office, one of his first calls to action was to end several DEI initiatives in the federal government.
'This won't work, this isn't widespread, nobody knows, we're in a bubble, blah blah blah' my mom, a 64 year old lady with no social media whose first language is spanish, told me about this before tumblr did, and said we are going to participate.
I've seen flyers for this in real life. Do it.
"What makes this protest unique is its laser focus on companies that have rolled back DEI initiatives. Target, Walmart and McDonald's are particularly vulnerable given their recent policy changes. While a single day of reduced revenue won't devastate these giants, it sends a powerful message about consumer expectations in today's market."
The People's Union is targeting Amazon, Walmart and Best Buy, but the group is also asking boycotters to refrain from spending money on fast food or gas, as well.
If consumers must make purchases, they are asked to buy only from small, local businesses

"kids these days don't loiter or act rebellious enough any more" kids just existing in public are more criminalized and surveilled than ever. almost every western country is running a panic about youth crime and how random teens standing awkwardly are a threat to civilization, and pushing for much more punitive laws. tons of states and powerful lobbies are pushing "parental right laws" that restrict the civil rights of minors even more. policing is first and foremost targeting youths, especially from low income and majority immigrant neighbourhoods. if a kid mildly steps out of line or says something awkward online or in a public space half a dozen people can whip up their phone and start mass harassment campaigns. and tech companies are now restricting access to the internet, the last way many teens can talk to each other freely and reach out to people outside family and school.
anyhow i think people really need to start giving kids at least a tiny bit more grace instead of making smug posts about how uncool they are compared to your youth days, you fucking twats
Seriously, NextDoor is 50% ring camera footage of clearly just normal, unsuspicious people walking around and paranoid fox news-brainrotted Boomers acting like theyâre in danger for their lives. Someone made a post about a 10 year old âstealingâ a rock from her lawn. A rock of which there were hundreds. I used to collect rocks as a kid, now kids do something so innocent and normal and are watched on Big Brother cameras and labeled a criminal among the community. Thereâs countless videos of adults putting their hands on and harassing teenagers for literally just skateboarding or hanging out outside. I shouldnât even have to mention the risk is 100x for Black and Hispanic kids, especially right now.
