It's a regular whump story set in a cyberpunk background. Once, Kael had a really decent life. He was middle upper class and was working in software development for a large company, but because of that he was privy to all of their secrets and unethical projects, so he tried to be a hero and blow the whistle.

He fell viction to a state-sanctioned defamation campaign. They had him arrested and let people assume the worst about what the company had found on his hard drives. His fiance was a "public figure" *coughsocialmediainfluencer*, so she was gone by the time he was released, she didn't even leave a note, or any pictures of them.

He disappeared from the public eye, sold everything and moved to the low end side of town, and i mean the wastes, where there's rampant crime and roaming gangs of scavengers. He lives in a building that's reminiscent of kowloon city, and owns a small warehouse where he does freelance hack jobs and sells info about cybersecurity weak spots to the highest bidder. This is probably more than you wanted to know. The point is the place is unsafe and he's a fugitive.

That's where unit 109 comes in. He was a combat machine doing hard labor on a cargo ship. There was an accident that killed everyone on board and left him out of commission. For Kael, finding him in the trash was like finding literal gold, though he still kicked the hell out of him; and 109, disoriented struck back, nearly breaking his nose. Thus started a beautiful friendship.

He named him Jude after the patron saint of lost causes, while trying to fix him. He uses him mostly for security, but also household chores and companionship. Prime directive is to serve and protect User Kael. He has implemented so many modifications and custom made code that Jude has his own personality. Their relationship started out rocky, but they're kinda learning to love each other.
