it's so stupid to get annoyed about but it makes me ahifjgkd when an OP adds image IDs under their own images because tumblr is the only major social media platform that allows users to implement their own alt tags into the background coding that screen readers can grab and use. you don't have to put it seperately and I suspect it's often much more cohesive for screen readers to have it included in the alt tags.

alt tags are basically image descriptors that are part of the background coding with html to be clear. in the code, it shows up as <img alt="an image of a dog" href="http://dogpics.com/images/dogpic.jpg"> and to a screen reader would read "an image of a dog". you'll also see that text if you have abysmally slow internet or it otherwise can't load the image.

like at the end of the day, it doesn't really affect me as a user who doesn't use a screen reader so, like I said, a stupid thing to be annoyed about, but tumblr allows users to, when initially posting an image, add alt tags onto it and I feel like a lot of people don't know that so that was really the intent of my mentioning it

When you add an image you can hover over it then click this meatball menu in the bottom right corner:

This brings up an option to "Update image description":

Clicking that option brings up a box where you can add an image description:

He does lives on TikTok a few times a week and tries a variety of recipes. I’ve caught him three times and all three times they’ve been good recipes he actually wanted to eat, as in “we just got to watch him baking a thing” rather than “this is specifically to see how good/bad this old recipe is.” (Last night he was doing gluten-free cranberry muffins. And singing old jazz standards. And fretting about making a turkey because he’s actually Bermudan and this is, apparently, the first time he’s ever cooked anything for a thanksgiving meal.)

He is the sweetest, most delightful person ALIVE, I swear. And he has an actual outro where he introduces himself by his full name (which is Benjamin Dylan Hollis apparently, makes him sound a bit like an actor IMHO), muses about how much he’s enjoyed talking to everybody, turns on some mellow jazz music, and then covers up the camera lens and lets the song play a bit before turning it off, which is just like. It makes it feel so chill. Like this is absolutely the kind of thing you do on a cozy evening, sit down and watch this dude make muffins.

….also I feel the need to tell you all that in last night’s stream someone asked if he had a girlfriend and when he finally managed to surface for air from laughing his ass off for well over a minute he just choked out “who’s going to tell him” and went back to losing his shit. He never actually managed to explain himself. The people in the comments had to do it because every time he tried he just started laughing again. If you think he was funny losing his shit at himself in the date cream video you should have seen the thanksgiving stream.

If tumblr starts instituting the draconian laws that tik tok has (aka not being able to say kill, bitch, etc in posts in addition to tags) I refuse to say shit like unalive and do the slash thing. I’m gonna start using old timey euphemisms (Eg; I want to force Apple executives to kick the bucket) and borrowing words from other languages. Like. They can’t ban sex words in every language, can they??
