I was checking Tokyo Debunker fanfics on ao3 and a pairing with the second most fics is Jin x Ritsu? Didn't they have like one interaction throughout the whole game?
I'm not judging, people are allowed to ship whatever they like and I've seen pairings shipped for less, but 2nd out of all pairings in the game? Only pairing higher than them is Taiga x Romeo and they're basically a married couple (in their divorce arc but still) in the canon
Again, no hate or judging, I'm just confused and curious. Did I miss something? How did it get so big? Was there something that kickstarted it or just people collectively clicked with it based on that one interaction? If anyone has answers, please, share XD
I think it's one of those dynamics that's just so delicious that the fandom collectively went "Yeah, we're keeping this one forever." That's why it's stayed popular for so long.
Jin and Ritsu are actually a really interesting pairing if you think about it.
LONG ASS YAPP UNDER THE CUT
Like Taiga, Jin absolutely would not entertain Ritsu's constant yapping... at least on the surface. Jin tends to see most younger, inexperienced people as "brats" so Ritsu would probably end up in that category too.
The difference is that Ritsu is a brat with potential.
The problem is that Ritsu isn't from Frostheim, and Jin has zero interest in involving himself with the affairs of the other houses. So instead of engaging, he'd probably just... ignore him.
But if Ritsu were in Frostheim?
Oh, I think the dynamic changes completely.
I honestly think Jin would have more patience for Ritsu than almost anyone else. He'd let Ritsu ramble on and on until it just became background noise. He'd act like he wasn't listening, but he'd remember every single thing Ritsu said.
And deep down? I think Jin would actually be impressed by him. He'd never admit it, obviously.
Ritsu is incredibly articulate and insightful when he wants to be. Having someone like him on your side is honestly a huge asset. He's observant, logical, and competent beneath all the chatter.
So you end up with this really fun dynamic: Elite × Elite/ Silent × Yapper.
Another reason I think it works is because of Tohma.
We know Tohma had to learn a lot from Jin after transferring from Vagastrom. He had to polish himself to fit Frostheim's refined image. That elegance is something he consciously performs every day. Tohma adapted quickly, sure but it's still a mask.
I think that's exactly why Jin keeps telling him to drop the act whenever they're alone. Jin spends his entire life surrounded by people performing, calculating, and wearing masks for his sake.
Ritsu is the complete opposite.
He's blunt. He's transparent. If he has something to say, he just... says it.
I can absolutely see Jin warming up to someone like that because, despite how aloof he is, I think he'd rather deal with brutal honesty than people constantly dancing around what they actually mean.
I can also picture Ritsu making nonstop comments about Jin's smoking habit.
And every once in a while, Ritsu would say something so absurdly logical and sensible that Jin would just...
"..."
Which would somehow leave Jin impressed, amused, and mildly irritated.
Ritsu Shinjo feels like one of the few people who naturally counters Jin Kamurai.
Fight fire with fire. Or maybe... Jin Kamurai's kryptonite.
For the record, I've never actually read any Jin/Ritsu or Ritsu/Jin fanworks. I just think the dynamic has so much potential to be both interesting and hilarious. I feel like Jin's opinion of Ritsu would completely change the moment he realizes Ritsu can actually be... cunning when he wants to be.
That's actually an interesting take on it, but throughout your whole post I couldn't help but continuously replace Ritsu with pre-Clash Yuri and it still fit and I can't help but I think this is what their dynamic looked like back then, lol

So this has been on my mind for a while, but given the fact that Vox seems to play a key antagonist role in the upcoming season (and I may be working on a fic exploring one of these ideas), the question has been really bugging me lately. Hopefully we get to find out why in season 2.
Why do you think Vox and Alastor fell out?
Vox/Alastor unrequited love
Power struggles
One showed mercy and the other didn't believe in it
Alastor refuses to admit he cares so he acts distant and shows little affection (less than Niffty, for example)
Vox is maddly in love but he thinks he's not good enough yet, so he doesn't make a move on it yet and wants to get bigger first so senpai Alastor notices him and agrees to date him when he eventually does
Alastor is happy that Vox gets more powerful, but since Vox is a workaholic he spends most of the time working. Alastor is worried about Vox working so much and he's unhappy they spend less time together. But it would kill him to admit that so instead he makes non-committing comments that Vox shouldn't work so much because it's *stupid*
Vox sees senpai isn't impressed with his work, so it means he needs to work even more and even harder to get even bigger and impressive because there's no way 💕senpai💕 could like him the way he is, he needs to be better
Alastor refuses to admit he gives a shit so he says he doesn't
Vox decides that there's no way Alastor would ever love him so he gets himself Val to get over Al
Alastor would rather die than admit he's jealous etc etc
In general, Alastor is terrified of being a prey, so he has a reputation of a predator so no one dares attack him. He thinks that showing affection and feelings will be seen as a weakness and it might ruin his reputation and put him in danger, so he'd rather act cold to maintain the mask and feel safe than admit his real feelings, sabotaging their relationship
Vox has an inferiority complex, he always thinks he's not good enough, so he compensates with his company and power. He boosts PR and slaps his face everywhere so people love him. He doesn't believe Alastor could truly care about him until he's worthy of it. Given that he's a perfectionist, he's never good enough in his eyes. Alastor holding back his affections doesn't help
In short, they both have issues. Neither of them wants to reveal vulnerability to the other nor admit how they truly feel (although for different reasons). Shit spirals until it hits the fan. They need to learn to talk and open up

Also, why did we need Gabriel to die/start dying for the show to start cooking? Come on! Anyway, I'll wait a bit if they keep it up before getting invested. You know, if it's worth it (Adrien villain arc, please)

Also, the RPC explains why he suddenly wants the perfect world in S5. He needed resources from Tomoe (because he was dying and desperate (more than usual)) so it was a trade-off for that

Do you guys think that Adrien will be able to speak with Gabriel in season 6? Like we know that by using the kwagatama, they can see the past holders of a specific miraculous. So like, if Adrien ever meets up with Nooroo, he can summon up his father or something. And he can actually have some sort of closure. Maybe scream at him. Yell at him for doing so much shit. For leaving him, for abandoning him. Just. Yell and scream at him about everything.
