the language thing for toei aliens, to me, is really an unconscious signifier of like. who is the good guy and who is the bad guy. we see it REALLY CLEARLY in kuuga, when only the bad guys speak a different language and it has to be studied and all of it is evil. we see it in gaim, too, not quite on the same level as kuuga but it's still there. i have not seen every toei production ever, so i'm not sure where else it would be, but like goddamn it's just. really boring.
also kingohger was like. REALLY a boring case of this? imo?? you're telling me these kingdoms that like APPARENTLY STARTED REALLY INTERACTING WITH EACH OTHER WHEN WE COME INTO THE SHOW all speak the same language? japanese doesn't even work like that! they make everyone speak tokyo dialect for tv! and these isolated kingdoms that haven't been working together much for about TWO THOUSAND YEARS all speak the same language? BORING. i dunno just mention the translator it does actually like. make it slightly more realistic and less boring (it's still a little boring fjsdiodjsiofjasiofio)
Yeah this is all so true.
The only other time off the top of my head that I can remember an alien language being used is in Gokaiger. Which, again, is the langugae of the Zangyack. But even then, it's only written? The verbal language is apparently just Japanese? And then they just did that again for Kingohger.
What Gokaiger needed was Gai being stuck translating for his team. Which would be funny because I don't think he'd be very good at it. I think he'd get over-excited/distracted halfway through almost every conversation.
And the Kingohger one especially is so interesting, because realistically, after 2,000 years, every country should have their own language. (I would even argue Toufu and Shugoddam should have several dialects given how large their countries are.) But also those languages would all be derived from the some source, so they'd all be similar. Kind of like the romance languages being derived from Latin.
