a/n: sorry if this sucks i am barely awake and running in 3 hours of sleep.
Jason had survived bullets, explosions, Lazarus pits, and one particularly bad Thanksgiving at Wayne Manor. None of it compared to the humiliation of trying to flirt with Jaime Reyes while his brothers watched.
They were in the Cave that night. It was a post-mission cleanup.
Everyone was tired, patched up, and riding that shaky adrenaline that made conversation slow and painful. Jaime had dropped in to return borrowed tech. He still had a smear of soot on his cheek, which Jason had been staring at for ten full minutes instead of helping Tim recalibrate the comms.
Dick was the first to notice.
“Jay,” he said lightly, “Earth to Jay.”
Jason grunted. “Shut up.”
“Sure,” Dick said, leaning back on the workbench, amused. “I’ll stay silent if you actually speak to him.”
“I am talking to him,” Jason hissed.
(He wasn’t.)
Jaime and Tim were discussing power output, and Jason was standing there like an unplugged lamp, nodding at nothing.
Damian, always the opportunist, looked up from sharpening his sword. “Todd’s motor skills appear to fail in Reyes’s presence. Perhaps he’s been poisoned.”
“By feelings,” Tim muttered.
All of this sibling bickering was flying over Jaime’s head and Jason never once thought of Jaime as dumb but he sure was dense.
Jason ignored them all. He picked up a rag, pretended to wipe blood off his gloves, then walked over to where Jaime was leaning against the console.
“Hey,” he said, too casual. “Good work tonight.”
Jaime smiled, easy and warm. “Thanks, man. You too. You were very efficient! In a terrifying way….”
Jason snorted, hoping that sounded like a laugh and not a death rattle. “Yeah, that’s my charm.”
Behind him, Dick made a sound suspiciously like a choke-suppressed laugh. He was going to murder him once this was over. Strangle with his pillow and beat him with his batons.
Jaime tilted his head, that soft grin still in place. “Charm, huh? Didn’t think you went for that word.”
Jason shrugged. “I have layers.”
“Like an onion,” Tim offered helpfully from across the room.
He did not turn around. “I will gut you.”
Jaime laughed, a bright, unguarded sound that hit Jason somewhere behind the ribs. “You guys are fun,” he said. “Crazy, but fun.”
To be in love was unfair. He wanted to say I’m not fun, I’m in love with you and it’s ruining my reputation. Instead, he said, “Yeah. That’s one word for it.”
He should have stopped there.
He didn’t.
God, have mercy on his soul.
“You ever, uh,” he began, immediately regretting it, “need to, I dunno, grab a drink after all this? I know a place that doesn’t card superheroes.”
There was a beat of silence.
A pregnant long silence that had him spiraling and questioning if he would go out by a gun or chainsaw. But Jaime smiled again politely, if anything Jason sensed disappointment?
The chainsaw death was fair.
“That sounds cool! Maybe the whole team could go.”
Jason felt every ounce of hope leave his body like air from a punctured tire. “Right. Yeah. The… whole team.”
Dick actually winced. Tim mouthed ‘ri.p.’ Damian merely called him, “Pathetic.”
For once he had to agree. Jason folded his arms, pretending indifference. “Sure, whatever. Group thing.”
Jaime kept talking, cheerful and completely oblivious, explaining something about new upgrades. Jason heard none of it; he was too busy trying to keep his heartbeat from showing on his face.
When Jaime finally waved goodbye, offering a fist bump Jason barely managed to return the elevator doors closed behind him with a soft ding.
The silence was deafening.
Dick exhaled. “That was…wow. That was like watching a car crash in slow motion.”
Jason turned. “Say one more word.”
Tim was already typing on his tablet. “Just documenting for science. Case study: Todd, Jason: symptoms include tunnel vision, stuttering, and emotional self-sabotage.”
Damian sheathed his sword with unnecessary force. “Reyes is pleasant enough. I fail to see why you are incapable of speech in his presence.”
“I’m not incapable—” Jason started.
“You invited him for a team drink,” Dick interrupted, half-smiling. “That’s not flirting, Jay. Thats…what’s the opposite of flirting?”
“Existing,” Tim supplied.
Jason dragged a hand down his face. “You’re all dickheads.”
“Because we care,” Dick said, leaning an elbow on Jason’s shoulder. “Look, man, he likes you. He laughs at your jokes, and that’s already an achievement.”
Jason shot him a look. “You think?”
“Oh yeah,” Dick said. “He just hasn’t realized you’re flirting because you flirt like you’re filing a police report. If anything be blunt because you friend zoning each other accidentally.”
Tim snorted. “Accurate.”
Damian crossed his arms. “Perhaps Todd should try not threatening his potential partner in the first three sentences.”
Jason groaned. “I hate all of you.”
But later, when he finally escaped to his bike, helmet tucked under his arm, he found himself smiling. The city smelled like rain. The cave noise was gone. His brothers’ teasing still buzzed in his ears, but underneath he was still hopeful for the bud of a chance for romance.
Jaime liked him. He had to. You didn’t smile like that, didn’t laugh that easily, if you didn’t feel at least a little of it back.
Jason swung onto the bike, engine growling to life.
One day, he’d get it right.
One day, he’d say what he meant instead of what sounded safe.
Tonight hadn’t been that day.
But when he thought of Jaime’s grin, the way it reached his eyes, the way it made the grime of Gotham look less gray, Jason couldn’t even be mad about it.
He just shook his head, muttering to himself as the city blurred past, “Yeah, real smooth, Todd. Next time, maybe try not sounding like a malfunctioning robot.”
The night didn’t answer, but if it had, it would’ve laughed right along with him.
Perhaps this is an obnoxious take on my part, but video games should, above all things, prioritize the ability of being paused. At any point. Regardless of whether it's during a cutscene, a special animation, or a time-based puzzle. You never know when you're gonna get a phone call, or someone will need you in another room, or you get a sudden urge to go to the bathroom, or you hear your cat licking plastic, or whatever. Other entertainment mediums like books, movies, and music can be paused whenever you want. Why do some games not give you the same luxury??

Another design is using 2 20x25x1 filters, taping them to the sides of the box fan and then to each other so they sort of make a triangle, then cutting cardboard to make a top and bottom to the triangle.

my advice to you is to never waste your time trying to fit into a club or hobby or any community who makes you beg for acceptance and approval just to participate when you could do the alternative—get involved in a niche and endangered hobby run primarily by old people.
i wanted to learn how to hunt ruffed grouse and train bird dogs so i sent an email to my local chapter of the ruffed grouse society explaining that getting into wildlife groups is intimidating to me because I’m trans
and all they saw was that someone under 60 wanted to learn to hunt grouse & several months into my mentorship I was told that like 7 old guys argued over me until they had to pick a number between 1 and 100 to decide who got to personally mentor me.

“So... We got the exploding diarrhea. Here's my advice for anyone who doesn't have it yet:
It's going to take a minute for the government to pin down where this is coming from, and then issue a recall, because the FDA has been gutted. But, I can tell you, without a shadow of a doubt : this is coming from Taylor Farms produce, and you will see them recalled.
You'll want to avoid all Taylor Farms produce in the grocery store. They supply McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut, about any fast food place you can think of.
Raspberries, watermelons, cilantro, and the veggies you're hearing about are not causing this many people to get sick. It's the shredded lettuce, specifically, that's the problem. But, you'll want to stay away from every type of produce this company puts out, because one strand of shredded lettuce is all it takes to contaminate bushels.
Taylor Farms is the source. Taco Bell proactively pulled their produce from their restaurants. You're going to see other fast food places doing this, and probably will see that before the government names a source. The FDA knows this, but they can't come out and tell us all until there's proof, which takes resources and research, which takes manpower, but the FDA has been cut by about 20-30%
During the Biden term, onions at McDonald's had ecoli. We knew this because DNA testing was done quickly and they were able to narrow it down to one place that caused the outbreak. And, it was traced back to Taylor Farms. This isn't going to be solved as quickly though.
When you get this, make a virtual appointment to your PCP - a "same day sick" appointment. Tell them someone in your family just tested for this and was positive and was prescribed Bactrim. If you go in person, they're probably going to make you poop in a cup and wait until results come back to prescribe.
You'll know when you get this. Trust me on all of this.
You'll want to stay hydrated because this parasite damages the lining of the small intestine. Your small intestine, in turn, secretes more water into the gut, and less nutrients and liquid are able to remain in the body. So no matter how much you shit, you're going to want to drink. A day of this leads to dehydration if you don't increase your fluid intake, and a few days will land you in the hospital.
If you have headaches, weakness, muscle cramps, dizziness, or an increase heart rate - hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Go to the ER for fluids if you can't drink enough.

i think when actors need to leave a show for whatever reason but the character is important and doesnt need to be written off / writing them off would make the story worse i think they should just hire a new actor for the character but, and this is the crucial bit, hire a similar-looking actor of a different gender. Yeppp they look different bc they transitioned between seasons. Obviously
