They can express who they ship (Dante Basco we love you) but DEGRADING and MOCKING irl fans who ship something else (EVEN IF problematic) is not it.

The show is about how much humanity you can have when by design your humanity level is below zero *because you're not human*, it is not meant to be a 1:1 representation of reality.

Literature lessons in school were there for this exact reason.

Don't swap the original - the character is not the swapped same, but someone new. They have similar characteristics, back story, goals and motivations, but they are two different people. Debbie Ocean is not 1:1 Danny Ocean, she is similar, but she is her own character with her own story. It's similar to Miles Morales and Peter Parker.

Create a new story - give the new character a new plot. The genre, the motives, the general story stay similar, but the character gets their own spin to it, linked to their own identity. Debbie robs the met gala and gets her own revenge, we are not seeing Ocean's Eleven again but with a female cast. The new plot is centered around her identity specifically. As other examples, Supergirl comes to my mind, and also Maleficent in a way.

Don't put the focus on diversity, but on the character's identity as a whole. We don't get long specifications about how it matters that they're all women. No one questioned why Ocean's Eleven had an all male cast, so no one should question why Eight has all females. We still have a line about how women get less noticed, subtle society critics, and we get an action-thief movie set in a woman-centric world which is the fashion one without anyone batting an eye. While for ex. new Snape will draw more focus on the diversity factor than on the character himself, and this element will fundamentally change the og character backstory and perception as a whole, so I don't think it is a good idea.

For once I like a tv show in a silly frilly way, I dig the canon endgame ship (which basically never happens for me, like never), the stupid love triangle and the silly characters with their idiotic super chaotic nonsense plots made for tv drama. I wanted an early two thousands trashy soap opera and I am enjoying it.

And one thing I can admire Bella for is how quickly she asks questions about the Cullens, and how quickly she discovers they are vampires.
