*voice of someone craving even the tiniest sliver of control* i could make a spreadsheet,
Congratulations to Azune for his promotion from Sargent sad-eyes to Captain sad-eyes.
CRITICAL ROLE 4.28 Chasing Shadows
Theres something so intrinsically kind and loving about Thaisha instantly going 'you have a room' to Occtis saying he is going to meditate in the courtyard. This man who has been outcast and hated by his family so much he was quite literally murdered by them. He's given a place, unhesitatingly, among the people who truly love and care for him. She doesn't press it either, just makes him the offer and lets him make the choice with no pressure.

i would have loved to read your enrestrained post about bolaires involvement in team spys trip to the villa aurora but i have to respect the discipline. i dont have beacon so im not able to revisit the episode, but i had the thought that him allowing them to bring him (as the mask) into the villa aurora as some sort of a failsafe way to get out once they need to (assuming mask of many faces/command carries to the wearer) was actually quite a smart play. but i dont think thats what the play actually was? it sounded like he wanted them to wear him going INTO the villa aurora or during the meeting, which was completely incongruent to their plan as they had openly described it to the group, hence them not using him at all during their scene because why would they. am i misremembering what tal/bolaires stated goal was there?
So the things I am refraining from saying are largely concerning the fandom response, and I've touched on them previously. However, to answer this question, I mean, the overall problem is that Bolaire has been incredibly unclear about his plans at pretty much every juncture. I think a lot of people, myself included, have stated it consistently feels he is trying to have very specific scenes that really aren't in line with what is actually going on and step on other people's stories - like, it really feels Taliesin isn't listening to anyone or telling them anything.
At the very end of the first half, Bolaire goes to get some books and leave, but it is pointed out to him that this is the meeting at the Archanade. After that scene, Sam and Whitney then even say that they probably slept where Bolaire was so that they could have a scene to plan and specifically on how to sneak him in as a mask, but Taliesin says he'll just text them the letter. In other words, the other players in Team Spy outright said "let's plan in-game", he chose not to, and gave them a note that told Tyranny to put the mask on (with no specifics as to when, why, or where). That is the fundamental problem; it's not just that he's not providing the information, but he is actively choosing to be cagey on a meta level. Which, again, I want to be clear, if my friend did this in D&D my response wouldn't be "they are a terrible person and evil" (and I don't think anyone is saying this. I've seen accusations of people saying this but said accusations are exclusively coming from boys who famously cry wolf) but my response would be "well then I'm going to do my thing, because you didn't tell me enough information for me to see any reason to follow that direction," and I would be a little frustrated that I did the work to give them a chance to run a scene and they turned it down and just told me what to do.
Thinking about how Thjazi not breaking the glyph was a snap decision. He didn't plan his own execution in advance as part of a masterstroke play, based on how he was joking with Hal he clearly expected to escape using the glyph. And then he saw that falcon, presumably Mara the Wing. Others have mentioned that he likely chose to die because what he was doing with the blood from the River Gavzidra required someone be in the Tenebral Reaches, and him seeing Mara signaled to him that her passage had been blocked, and he realized he had an express if one way ticket to exactly where his plans needed someone to be. So Thjazi chose to allow his own execution to proceed, and rushed out his last words to Hal in the scant few seconds he had. Circumstances very suddenly required him to willingly sacrifice himself for his cause, and he made that choice very decisively even as he was clearly scared to die. Thjazi was certainly a lot of things, but one of those things was that he was a man who was willing to give up everything if it meant living out his ideals.
wanted to draw that Hannan/Vaelus moment+Katt, but I needed to draw hannan and there is so few references of him so I decided to draw my own, then got too tired to draw the rest XD...
keeping it brief but like, Bolaire continues to just not do anything that ever makes sense. Like, last episode his whole deal was trying to look into Occtis and the Stone of Nightsong despite having no time for that and neither Occtis nor Vaelus really wanting to do so. This episode he decided to go to the Villa Aurora and not the play, which is already a wild choice, but also the way in which he is being smuggled into the Villa Aurora fundamentally demands that either Sam or Whitney not be in a scene that is highly relevant to their characters (this btw is a big part of why I've never been into the idea of other PCs wearing Bolaire. I mean if it happens willingly with discussion sure, do what you want, but unless it's an internal Mask Prison scene it actively forces someone else out of the scene in real life with no ability to get back into it on their own) or just means he sits in a handbag the whole time. You can be cagey in-character, but you do in fact need to let your fellow D&D players in on your plans. It feels increasingly like he's on a wildly different page than everyone else, and he's also failing to explore any storylines that are actually about him, and every time he's like "you can put me on this body or just leave me forever" I'm like that's demanding everyone else be collaborative in a way that supports your gameplay that you are seriously failing to reciprocate.
We can acknowledge that a big part of the reason Thimble is most mad at Bolaire is that he was being the most rude and confrontational about the Sundered Houses theory right?
Murray was the source of the theory that Thjazi was working with the Sundered Houses, that's absolutely true. Azune and even Hal even expressed their own doubts about Thjazi- again absolutely true.
Bolaire has continuously and consistently put his foot in his mouth when talking to the people who loved Thjazi, about Thjazi.
It's the reason Hal got angry with Bolaire at the Hallowed Round when even he was feeling the most doubtful about his brother's intentions.
It's the reason why Thaisha said 'Let's be mindful about how we talk about Thjazi in his brother's home'.
Thimble was not happy about any of the doubt that was being cast of Thjazi's name, but no one else who was casting doubt was snorting in derision about the idea that Thjazi would think twice about killing 5000 people, no one else said 'Just because you think he was telling you the truth doesn't mean you weren't also being fooled and lied to' (paraphrased) and no one there (apart from Julien and Vaelus) was known to already hate Thjazi.
Murray implied that none of them might know Thjazi as well as they would have liked; Bolaire directly challenged Thimble's closeness and trust with Thjazi.

We said 'flower-doll' not because that's how we saw you, but because it's what we knew she saw you as. An eternity, to have all of your complexity, all of your possibility, all of your dreams folded into an idyllic paradise where you would be punished for the most minor infraction?

Occtis making the excellent point that Bolaire continually insisting that he and Wicander are very important just makes it sound like he's interested by them being undead/aasimar and wants to collect them
"i'm starting to think you think we're important because we're a liiiiiiiiiiiiitle weird"
