what’s incredible is how dazai is always kind, gentle, and careful when it comes to chuuya’s condition, like when he’s hurt or losing consciousness. he’s delicate in his touch, in his words, in his soft smile. all of it proves that he cares, but it happens exactly when chuuya can’t see it

i especially love how their bond is emphasized in official art. chuuya is often drawn on dazai’s blind side, the side covered by bandages. it symbolises the trust dazai places in him, something we also see during their missions, when chuuya quite literally becomes dazai’s second eye. and chuuya is also frequently positioned behind dazai, guarding him like a loyal dog. but at the same time, it’s always part of the demon prodigy’s elaborate schemes, where chuuya becomes the final move and plays the decisive role in crushing their opponent

they’re also always standing opposite each other (usually staring at each other too oh, lovers). sure, duos are often portrayed as opposites, which is reflected in how they’re positioned in art, but skk are actually very similar deep down, and that adds an entirely different layer of meaning. they’re connected. they always were, they are now, and they always will be

as you know, i’m obsessed with chuuya!ada, and god, i will devour literally any chuuran interaction content!!

and i genuinely think that if chuuya were in the ada, his partner would be ranpo. it just makes sense. in dazai’s case, his partner is kunikida, someone just as explosive as chuuya. and kunizai are really cute too; they care about each other in their own way, and they work incredibly well together on missions

so for someone as explosive as chuuya, ranpo’s brilliant mind and his lazy, unserious attitude would be the perfect match. but chuuya wouldn’t be as harsh with him (like he is with dazai), because, okay— first, ranpo is really cute, and second, chuuya would probably just sigh every time the older one teased him… and then end up handing him a bag of sweets anyway

in canon, they do have some interesting interactions, which gives a lot to think about

one of them, when talking to employees, will definitely mention the other, even if the conversation was about something completely different

and the fact that dazai wrote 27 volumes about what annoys him about chuuya? that he “whether asleep or awake, thinks about how to piss chuuya off”

chuuya, in turn, came up with 190 ways to punish dazai, always calls him when he’s drunk, and under the influence of corruption recognizes him

in that same scene, dazai compares himself to snow white, so chuuya is the prince charming who saves the princess

i think abt this art a lot, and every time i look at it, i feel this deep sense of melancholy. it really shows how the bond between skk isn’t superficial at all

they were each other's first "friends" of the same age, which was new to them

chuuya had a huge burden placed on him. He was the leader of an organization, and it was his responsibility to take care of those younger than him. at the same time, no one could truly treat him as an equal, since he was the only esper. others feared him, and in the end, they were ready to betray him if necessary

dazai from a very young age, was already in the mafia, surrounded by adults. he had no one to share a carefree childhood with. his role was to be a demon prodigy

but then these two cross paths and find in each other what they were both missing. they can joke, quarrel, play arcade games, and just be kids. the kids they actually are

it's noticeable how they don't know how to show this friendship and offer it. therefore, dazai comes up with a bet, tying chuuya to himself. in his conditionz, it was easier for him to make xhuuya his dog. also, a dog is a man's best friend

but after chuuya joins the mafia, they’re separated, and in this artwork you can see the deep sadness skk feels about that. bcs they’ll have to go back to pretending to be adults, even though they’re still just kids

my hd is that they often snuck away from mori and kouyou just to play at the arcade or find some other way to have fun (like pranking someone)

btw, hirotsu is the only one in the mafia who always treated them like children, and that’s one of the reasons i like him so much. all those arts where dazai is teaching the old man how to play on a console <3

and even at 22, chuuya still shares quiet bar moments with hirotsu

hmm, i think about this a lot, and i also often read different fanfics abt how chuuya grieved for the flags. personally, i feel like it would be a quiet kind of grief, since chuuya tries not to show his weakness. mb he kept some keepsakes of dazai and would go to their favorite arcade (not to play)

in the port mafia, they still have old jokes that only the two of them understand

they also jokingly keep a bet they made back in their teenage years

oh— and one thing i hate about the anime adaptation is that they removed dazai’s laughter. in the anime, they make him seem more cold and emotionless, unlike in the manga where he still shows his emotions
