HOW TRAUMA AFFECTS THREAT ASSESMENT
I'm going to approach the conversation from my perspective as a survivor of incest, and as someone who lives with really terrible c-PTSD as a result.
It is natural that many people have a volatile reaction to incest in fiction, after all 1 in 3 people are survivors of CSA, in most of these cases the perpetrators were an older family member, often a sibling or parent....
There are definitely predators in fandom communities, but the pro/anti thing makes people less safe by judging people on ideological purity rather than safe behaviour. Purity can be an excellent disguise for a predator, because people trust you more.
We raise a fallacious argument when we accuse people of nefarious intent because of what they read, or write, or what kinks they have. Abusers engage in predictable behaviours to ensure they have unrestricted/unsupervised access to their victim, the absolute trust of the victim's guardians, and the absolute confidence of the adults known to the victim... And lastly, the victim's absolute loyalty.
That's what complex PTSD does to our situational judgment.
Knowing that our worst traumas are features of other people's entertainment can be incredibly triggering. However assuming that the creation or consumption of a fictional narrative is proof that a person desires to engage in the behaviour described is an error of thinking, but an understandable one.
I'm going to respond to this as a therapist who works with survivors of all kinds of trauma and who has done my own trauma work - clawing my way out of my own trauma responses with both traditional and non-traditional methods of dealing with it.

People can fantasize about murder because they want to and have that be the reason they make horror art. And people can fantasize about incest because they find it hot and create incest-fantasy pornography for that reason. That is literally fine.

And I want everyone to remember? That feeling? That you have to explain WHY it's okay to write horrible things?

I want anyone seeing this to know yall do not have to have a trauma history to justify creating art about horrific art. You can just like it. It can just be fun!
You do not have to justify ANYTHING you do EVER to anyone except for the things you explicitly agree to with the people with whom you are in social contracts. Do yall understand me?
And when it comes to FICTION?
None of this is real. There are no social contracts to enter into beyond what the law says - which is around copyright. So if you have the ability to distinguish between fantasy and reality? Congrats. You can do whatever you want.

Aziraphale was the one who planned a whole fucking ball just to ask Crowley to dance with him. He is the one who thinks of them as āusā throughout the season.

The more I think about the last minutes the more Iām sure Crowley was saying goodbye from the minute Aziraphale told him heād said yes to Heaven. He doesnāt confess his love like heās hopeful, he confesses it like a eulogy. He doesnāt kiss him to make a beginning, he kisses him to seal the end. He watches him go like itās the last time.
Crowley knows Heaven. He knows theyāll either make Aziraphale just like them, or theyāll destroy him. Either way I think he is sure heās seen his angel for the last time.
@theniftycat youāre right, and heās right, and thatās why heās been fighting so hard all along not to disrupt it ā heās so afraid of losing what they have. He lost everything when he lost Heaven. He canāt forget how completely it was taken. Heās always on guard to keep what good he has hidden, and heās always trying to keep Aziraphale soft and safe. He loves him as he is ā and that is beautiful. But he doesnāt tell him what he needs to know ā doesnāt tell Aziraphale how awful Heavenās trial was, for fear of crushing him. He doesnāt tell him heās living in his car, for fear of crowding him. He doesnāt tell him he loves him for fear of pressing him! But Aziraphale needs to know! He needs to change! They both do! āNothing lasts foreverā ā that was right. If theyāre ever going to find their way to their quiet place in Sussex theyāll have to let their lives change. Thatās the only way to get back what was best about them, after it all.
I will say it again!!! Crowley's line at the end of the second episode is the saddest line in the show!
"Then nothing has to change, does it?"
Oh Crowley, it has to change if you want to really be "an us." The flip side of "nothing lasts forever" is "something will be different." And that's not always bad.
That. Crowley in the book may be an optimist, but this Crowley is more of a traumatized minimalist. He wonāt ask for more explosions of light across endless skies; heāll take what he can get (a nightās company, a good drink, a quick and furtive mercy), and heāll be grateful for it.
He needs a maximalist, indulgent, determined angel to insist that itās not enough, that he deserves to be handed back Heaven itself. To have it all remade for him. And if it turns out Heaven isnāt capable of being what he deserves, heāll give him the world ā if the world is one small cottage stuffed full of plants and books, with a full view of stars above it, and one angelās whole heart.
Even Crowleyās confession isnāt asking for more! Heās only asking that they stop pretending! He only says he wants to stop never mentioning the obvious. And he still doesnāt manage to mention it ā the āI love you.ā
All their lives, ever since Aziraphale ate an ox at his behest (!), heās simply opened up the wonders of things to the angel and watched him indulge. Heās treated him, and rescued him, and lingered one more hour in his beautiful home and his beautiful presence before going back to his bare walls and empty table. He hasnāt yet managed to indulge himself in more than a fast car and a new gadget ā a nice hairstyle, but miracled up, not barbered ā a sleep thatās more of an escape. Nothing that looks like an appetite, nothing that looks like safety or letting your guard down or making a home.
Aziraphale can give him that. Aziraphale tried to undo the order of the eternal to give him that, and I canāt wait to see him open his own Earthly joys to be always unreservedly Crowleyās once he understands.

Cause guess what?
Language is fake! It's all made up! If it makes you happy, use it! Wanna call yourself "boy," even if you're not a man? Do it! Wanna be called "boyfriend," even if you're not a guy? Go for it!
