I think part of what is making young people lonelier, in discussing why they're increasingly isolated, is that they're so afraid of meeting someone who doesn't hold their same beliefs, and instead of being just core beliefs it is kinda ancillary shit.
It's actually okay to disagree even on social topics! Even on some political ones! But I mean, online you can start with "i love this mutual but they have a really bad/uninformed opinion about x media"

But seriously, as someone who has spent two decades doing community organization: finding ways to connect with different people is so so so important. Saw Spider-Man on Saturday and then again on Sunday--it was great! Fun action scenes, some emotional beats that hit very solidly, great use of other heroes and villains.
Spider-Man has never been my guy, but the character has been growing on me in the MCU. TBH, possibly because he's no longer a literal child.

Fic idea that I can't escape. Howard's not in it, but he's haunting the narrative like no one's business :
If Steve and Howard had hooked up during the war, his first thought in Avengers 1 when meeting Tony wouldn't have been "Why is this guy being such a dick to me?"āit would have been "Oh no he knows"
If Tony didn't actually know, it might have actually improved their relationship overall? Because instead of meeting Tony's hostility, he would have probably thought it was understandable and been more diplomatic with him. Meeting your dad's ex who is also 15 years younger than yourself? That's gotta be weirdāShield's pamphlets told him everyone was cool with homosexuality now, but no one is that open-minded.
Plus the sheer social awkwardness of the whole situation might have distracted Steve from some of his overwhelming sadness.
When would the truth be revealed? You could always have a story where they figure out their miscommunication pretty quickly, but I think it would also be very funny if it took years and years for it to come out. Because Steve wouldnāt want to talk about it and would assume Tony also didnāt want to talk (or even think) about it, and it would never in a million years occur to Tony to ask if Steve and Howard hooked up.
Thatās assuming itās not a Stony story, anyway. I think Steve would feel like they had to talk about what he thought was the elephant in the room before they started a relationship.
Best (funniest) time is maybe during their conference room argument in Civil War:
Tony: Dad was a pain in the ass, but he and Mom always made it work.
Steve: Yeah, I know you don't like to think about Howard and I being together, but even when he was a handful it was worth it. I'm sure you can find that balance with Pepper.
Tony: š you and howard were what
I'm not sure what happens after that, but I'm pretty sure it changes the course of the movie.
Why do you think Howard Struck decided to get married? How could he ever love someone, since all this time he was running from one woman to another. Was Maria so special that she could attract him? Was he faithful to her?did he have a type in women?
Oh, interesting question!
I do like to think that he and Maria loved each other. At the very least, they seemed to get along in the few scenes where we see them together, and Tony says they "always made it work."
But.
I can't help but think that there was more to it than that. Howard cared a great deal about being socially and financially successful and playing the role he was supposed to be playing. At a certain point he must have seen a need to move from a "millionaire playboy" persona to a "respectable captain of industry" persona, and having a wife would have been a key component of that.
He needed someone to host parties, to entertain guests, to organize charity events, to make him look more stable and normal. I hope that he also loved Maria, but I think he might have married someone even if he didn't.
As far as a type, I think he didn't care much beyond "attractive and willing" in the Agent Carter era. For a wife I think he would have wanted someone pretty, practical, and ambitious in the same way he was. Someone who would be a partner in being "The Starks." I tend to think that Maria was warmer to Tony than Howard was, but still a fairly distant and distracted parent.
