Something that makes the character writing for literally everyone feel mediocre is that you are always set up for disappointment, simply because aoyama mastered character introduction and making (everyone is genuinely so interesting especially in their introduction chaper there are not many cardboard cutouts) everyone in the cast would make a strong protagonist to their own series truly the gift that never stops giving , but beyond introduction he really is not that good at writing them and that's why everyone turns into a cardboard cutout of a certain trope after some point which is so sad

the sad thing about detco is that it feels like gosho is trying to break the gender roles and failing at it so badly, like shinichi is a fucking twig while ran beats the shit out of men thrice her size for sport but he is the one saving her every time because misogyny, haibara is a fucking child genius who has been relegated to a side character , jodie was a cool af fbi agent but we introduced the even cooler man fbi agent and suddenly she's just the driver and every new case she appears in she acts dumber than before (and its not like its an identity thing because they fucking know so let her be a part of the investigation the way akai is gosho) , the last time we saw sato was god I cant even remember and she is objectively the coolest funniest smartest most insane member of the tokyo pd, kir has been undercover in the bo for years with no support really around unlike amoru but he still gets much more content than her and she only appears every 2 movies to just get shot by gin and saved by amoru,yuihara is a very capable officer who solved furincazan by herself and went to protect the next victim alone because she is batshit insane but in every other case she just stands to the side and calls kansuke( very ooc btw, that woman married her suspect to investigate she would be hyper independent, sonoko is fucking feral like she literally was kicking screaming and biting whoever was trying kidnap her but in every other case where shit happens shes so helpless , kazuha is the same case as ran but like she is much more open and gives 0 fucks in reality she would confess 1st like he would be trying and stumbling and she'd just drag by the scruff and kiss him but the gender roles stop her from doing that so she has to wait for fucking years

Look. I know it would be a pretty improbable leap of logic despite the knowledge that it is possible (in-universe) since a much simpler explanation is on the table as well, but Conan being told that Kaito 1412 used to be active until 8 years ago and only recently showed up again only to find out that the guy actually seems to be incredibly young for someone who was allegedly a grown adult almost two decades prior would have made for a pretty fun "did a grown ass man (criminal) (I should just get him thrown in jail) somehow get poisoned by the same thing I was given (is he active again because his bones and joints are back in business)" subplot

The way they've changed Haibara's obsession w Higo from "he's just like me fr" projection to a boring old CRUSH is legitimately so fucked up

Well I like it but it’s not very well written. Also it’s a visual mess. The plot doesnt make any sense and the creators suck and its politics oscillate from mildly problematic to frankly baffling. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. However. the character

"go to hell" is basic. "i wish your favorite characters' authors dont give a fuck about them" is brutal. its real. its happened to me more times than i can count

But i raise ypu "Cant be trusted to baby sit specifically the detective boys bc hes gotten to used to looking into these literal seven year olds eyes. Hes 3 times there size and still differs to them like peers. He WILL pull out his goofy little pin and ask them to be his comically effective surveillance system against a dangerous criminal."
