Saw all your stuff on all the minor Elpis NPCs and I’m so happy finding another person who adores them! I’ve been making so many little stories up of the npcs in my head. Also Kleon is awesome, nice finding more people who like him.
loooove them sm i need to make more art of the silly friend group ive made up of them in my head as well. erichthonios is there to balance out all the goofy elpis shenanigans but also enable it slightly
Freeze your brain from Heathers is very much a Black Battler song to me.
Freeze your brain
Shatter your skull, fight pain with more pain
Forget who you are, unburden your load
Forget in six weeks 48 hours, you'll be back on the road

Making your horror protagonist a skeptic is a good choice writing wise because putting someone who explicitly does not believe in the supernatural in a situation where the supernatural is both very real and very malevolent is a great way to maximise tension, but the problem is that it - and the prevalence of the trope - does end up inadvertently promoting the idea that skepticism is foolish and close-minded
I'm only into a narrow selection of horror so I won't say I wanna see it, but I would at least be curious about a horror story with a group of protaginists getting picked off one by one where the skeptic is the only one who survives because everyone else is assuming that the monster fits into whatever type of weird unproven thing they specifically are convinced exists - and therefore that they already understand it as much as it can be understood - while the skeptic's refusal to believe in the supernatural until it's undeniable leads them to actually try and figure out what this thing is and how it works
Important aspect of this is that the skeptic is still wrong about this thing not being supernatural, but because she's (yes I've decided she's a she) critically examining all the weird shit going on, by the time it's undeniable that this is not a normal threat she's already gathered enough information to understand this thing, meanwhile the other characters have spent the whole movie doing things like "well this is CLEARLY a demon so if I just make the sign of the cross OH GOD IT'S NOT AFRAID OF THE CROSS"

Dark umineko question ahead(feel free to ignore if too heavy for a topic): do you think in the scenario of a dead Rudolf on an 86 Rokkenjima Prime-like scenario with Ange present(not accounting for other adult survivors), do you think Kyrie would at least take her to Kuwadorian even if just to abandon her right after or would Kyrie let the explosion tie up the loose ends without lifting a finger?
MASSIVE FLAMING UMINEKO SPOILERS
In case anyone is still reading below the spoilers, Beatrice does exist and I will refer to her as Beatrice on this post so that, if the reader does not understand who she is, I do not spoil more than - already everything else being spoiled here.
That is honestly a pretty hard question to put an answer to, considering Kyrie’s state of mind at that time - her objectification of Ange as an anchor, a chain which bound Rudolf to her (which, though genuine, may or may have not also coexisted with love or at least a level of care for Ange), a chain no longer needed with Rudolf’s death, and the fact that, in canon, she has killed nearly every one on the island.
Most importantly, this includes Maria.
Kyrie finds out Rudolf is dead after having already killed Maria. If Ange was on Rokkenjima during the conference, the cousins likely would have left her in the room with Maria when called out by Kyrie and Rudolf because it’s about 12 - 1 AM.
Meaning, Kyrie - before finding out about Rudolf’s death, likely at the same time as Eva kills Rudolf - would have actively been in the same room as Maria and Ange, and would have had to kill a presumably sleeping Maria with Ange, sleeping in the same room, none the wiser.
My best assumption: because Ange is Kyrie’s only living child, which I do think would have an affect on her level of care towards Ange even if she is one that Kyrie predominantly views more as a tool to chain down her husband, Kyrie would try not to wake Ange while killing Maria.
(She might spare Maria, but I really don’t see her choosing to do so unless Maria and Ange are awake when she comes in, and sees her covered in blood, and to avoid traumatizing Ange, she spins up a tale about Kinzo - or Beatrice - attacking the family.
There’s also a chance she would just kill maria in front of ange, but given her desire to play a happy family - if only for Rudolf’s sake, up to personal interpretation of her character - I don’t think that would be likely).
She’d kill Maria, maybe keep Ange asleep in another of the beds, with the plan of later rushing in along with Rudolf - and maybe Battler, if Rudolf convinced him about the necessity of the murders somehow (or just threatened him) - and they’d escape to Kuwadorian, as Ange very much still equates to Rudolf’s anchor, because Kyrie assumes Rudolf is still alive.
Considering Kyrie finds out Rudolf’s dead after she has killed Maria, it really depends on if she manages to kill Eva in their shootout in the rose garden.
Additionally: Battler and Beatrice.
Battler first finds Gohda dead, when heading to the mansion to ask the way to the chapel. Then, when he tries to find their parents, he find Jessica dead in the dining room instead.
While running through the rose garden, he finds Kyrie already dead (post-duel with Eva). He finds Maria and the servants already dead in the guesthouse as well - he can’t find any of their parents, and eventually reaches the chapel where he finds George and his father.
The only one he can’t find is Eva - and we don’t really know where Eva is, at that point. She was by George’s body by sometime, got into the duel with Kyrie, and the next time we see her is after Beatrice drags Battler out of the gold room into the tunnels. We don’t know where Eva is between the du and re-entering the gold room.
(Beatrice, who is running just after Battler, doesn’t see Kyrie’s body, but I’m assuming that’s due to the paths she takes through the garden. After she reunited with Battler in the gold room, hearing Eva, she causes them to flee with the belief that it is Kyrie).
Assuming Kyrie kills Eva in this instance, we have several possibilities:
Kyrie has no need to use Ange as an emotional anchor tying her to Rudolf. Depending on whether you see her with love or not, Kyrie either had no emotional attachment to Ange - or did care for ange, if not love her, and due to the trauma in her love (ex: ‘losing her first child) this led to her repressing and being unable to accept those emotions, even if she acted them out.
So, she very well may have intended to simply let Ange sleep in the guest house up until the moment of the island’s detonation. I don’t see her logically killing Eva, and then walking back to the guesthouse to kill Ange, when the explosion might very well do the job without her having to further bloody her hands, and she can instead begin the work of grabbing the cash card, maybe some of the gold, and then immediately heading to Kuwadorian to secure her own safety from the explosion.
On an emotional level, it could also be interpreted as Kyrie not wanting to have to murder her only living child when - in her eyes - she had already lost her son, whether or not she loves or cares for Ange.
(On the other hand, Kyrie also could have chosen to go and kill Ange out of mercy. Both a final form of ‘love’ that she could give to the child she may or may not have loved).
I don’t see Kyrie as taking Ange to Kuwadorian and abandoning her there alone, because I don’t think Kyrie knows about the secret harbor or the boat. It might be safer to simply head to the mansion herself, rather than risk getting lost in the tunnels and caught in the explosion and killed.
Additionally, when police and help arrive on the island, if both Kyrie and Ange were found in the mansion, and Kyrie later abandons Ange back on the mainland, it would lead to a massive witch-hunt for her - she would not easily be able to slip into anonymity as she might have wish.
However, if she got to the VIP room and realized Beatrice was still alive - and presumably so was Battler - I do see Kyrie possibly attempting to hunt down and kill those two, with Beatrice being a direct witness to the murders and the gold, and Battler - being Battler.
As I mentioned though, Battler entered the guesthouse while trying to find someone still alive.
He’d find Ange, still alive, sleeping peacefully in the gruesome selpucher that the guesthouse had become - and still none of their parents.
Battler’s priority would most likely be checking Ange for injuries, preventing her from seeing any of the carnage, and then trying to find someplace safe to hide and contact the police, or to hide her and keep looking to find their parents.
Given that finding Ange alive would slow Battler’s movements down, I do think this would lead to Beatrice - in turn - finding the siblings at the guesthouse, with everyone else around dead.
Not knowing where Kyrie is, I do think that Beatrice would eventually realize that the culprit behind the murders was still at large, and this would ultimately still lead to her leading Battler and Ange into the underground tunnels to escape the explosion and find safety.
From here, there are several possibilities:
Kyrie, actively hunting Battler and Beatrice, or they simply run into each other, finds and potentially kills all three of them (most certainly Beatrice, likely Battler).
Kyrie and the three get into a showdown, and someone - Battler most likely, given Beatrice’s injury - is forced to kill Kyrie in self-defense (maybe Beatrice grabbed him a gun from Kinzo’s study). They then either reach Kuwadorian or the submarine tunnels.
Kyrie survives by reaching Kuwadorian, as Eva did in canon, whereas Battler, Beatrice and Ange survive via the submarine tunnels.
I totally forgot Maria would have been in the same room as Ange unless they called her to another location like the rest of the cousins. Ange just waking up next to her dead cousin would be a nice reference to the first Twilight of EP5 except this time the corpse is real.
Ange being the only living person left in the guesthouse and still asleep by the time Battler arrives would could make him suspect Kyrie if she wasnt dead at that point and it was instead Eva's corpse that he saw on the way. Good point about Battler slowing down enough upon finding Ange for Beato to catch up.
On the subject I too lean towards Kyrie preferring to leave Ange to die by explosion rather than backtrack for both pratical and heart reasons(not wanting to kill her only living child).
Now that I think about it, Beatrice in prime mentioning only the tunnel to the secret mansion but not the Kuwadorian harbor is a bit weird since the regular harbor would likely not be accessible on account of big explosion crater and any survivor/culprit would be stuck waiting for the police to find it. Then again it could have been mentioned off-screen in the short timeskip between the Beatrice finishing her exposition and the adults picking up the guns during their arguing.
Kairi ex the concept of Battler killing Kyrie in self-defense in front of Ange is giving me shivers. Though he would need really good luck since Beatrice's BB fantasies aside it likely is his first time handling a firearm. Still Beatrice welcoming Battler to the Parenticide club and all they get is a shirt, trauma and a crying six year-old on their hands.
I wonder if Beatrice could use the baby switch reveal as a distraction to get a good shot at Kyrie with a pistol like the ones from EP6(if they exist in Kinzo's study) since the lesser weight would strain less her injury. The event however would deal Endless Nine amount of damage to Battler in the process.
In the case of the two groups missing each other, I think Beatrice may wait until they reached Land to disappear on Battler and Ange rather than to jump off the boat in the middle of the ocean since it would be more difficult to keep both distracted.
Whoops my brain threw the mental image of Ange having fallen asleep on the boat while Beato and Battler have their canon kiss and sink moment leading her to waking up all alone, 10K damage to me!
