Something I've noticed about Kane's "The Backrooms" is that the rooms tend to show mostly things that have been recorded, specifically. I mean, the scientist at the end makes a point to say that, most of the furniture we see is beds and couches because most folks record themselves and their buddies in their living room or their bedroom. We don't really see toilets, because not many people take pics or videos of their regular ass bathrooms. The only places with a cornucopia of furniture is the fake furniture store, and the room directly leading to the backrooms from the furniture store. Even Mary's house, which was likely taped for a news section.
I think the backrooms doesn't take from people's memories, but instead from our faulty recording software lol
In a way, maybe that's why depictions of Heaven were always meant to be light, minimalistic, and airy. Because we used white scrolls and marble for our art in the past.
is it just me or is it distasteful, disrespectful and annoying as fuck how overused "cults" are in low effort & low quality horror content and how they're executed/used in the narratives, ESPECIALLY minecraft horror mods, unfiction & args? like those are real things people have dealt with and real things that have actual issues and the way a lot of horror treats them is so insanely distasteful
like the way a lot of internet horror handles cults as a subject is so. like it almost treats it like a joke? that a cult exists and that someone would join one? something about that is just extremely distasteful to me
yeah and - do correct me if i'm wrong - i'm fairly sure they do (or at least a lot of them) specifically target people who ARE at their lowest to get them to join. like the way theyre using the rituals as the horror is just lame and distasteful because like, ok, rituals are a completely normal part of everyday culture no matter what culture you're from. it just doesn't make sense to use that as the horror when what's actually scary about them is their ability to manipulate you and take your agency away

Watching Backrooms (2026), while knowing the original series and reading House of Leaves is such great combination of works, which makes you feel insane about art.
So many paralers, it works truly great as reflection of similar ideas which are taken differently.
Cassette footages are a big part of both work, there is a house and there is Clark who is an architect. There are the youngsters doing drugs, there is the cycle of abusse, the laybirint. There are references to Greek Mythology, film-making, classical books, other pieces of art.
