briefly pursuing a career in animation radicalized me on this. So many stories from the industry about how you have to start with your character design as dark as possible, because INEVITABLY you'll get "notes" from higher-ups asking you to make them lighter.

In a class about making a pitch bible my teacher once role-played as a shitty executive with a classmate, pressing them in intentionally abrasive ways about why they made their characters diverse. He emphasized that we had to learn to defend these things, because the racism in the industry is extremely deliberate.

Just wanna take the time to say that as an OG leshley shipper, I'm SO grateful for the leshley content creators! You guys keep the fandom alive and well!! If you told 2013 me that there would be new leshley content in the year of our lord 2026, I would never have believed you!

It's not about how big or small your contributions. Everyone who creates knows how much time and effort it takes to make art, and you're doing it out of love for the ship. Kudos to all of you, really!

Whether you share your art through Tumblr, AO3, Twitter, Instagram... remember your art is someone's escape. Write that fic. Who gives a fuck if it's a "recycled" trope? Honestly, what isn't recycled these days? It becomes unique because it's your own spin on it! Draw that thing that scratches your brain. Make that edit. We can never have too much leshley content. More! Cake! Please!

I might be biased, but leshley creators are some of the most talented, most creative people I've seen. In thirty years of Resident Evil, canon gave us one game and you all took that and turned it into incredible stories and art. I know I'm in good company, and honestly, it's your incredible contributions, not canon, not anything Capcom ever handed us, that legitimizes this ship.

I think, the best thing about being a smaller ship is the community. While we might not have the volume of fics and fanarts that other bigger RE ships enjoy, we have some seriously talented creators in our corner.

And if you're a consumer who supports these works with kind comments and love, thank you! Your encouragement is what makes this community thrive. Huge respect to everyone who creates and spreads positivity! We definitely need more of that in our space.

so like if the username is something like "dancingwithbears" they'll refer to their husband as "Mr. Bears"

PSA: if you have decided to pull inspiration from the horrors of wilderness therapy or any aspect of the Troubled Teen Industry for your fictional story, you have a responsibility. You need to have the balls to portray it as fucking evil. As evil as it is in the real world. You want to do more harm to survivors? Sugarcoat it. Make it vague enough so that the majority of your audience won't connect the dots. Protect your own ass by including just enough redeeming qualities to leave your audience feeling a-okay about its existence.
