My Caspeter AUs (4/?) // The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement
It's still hard to believe that Peter used to be just another ordinary school boy from Finchley who no one cared enough to pay much attention to. But now, five years later, he's not only a young prince caught under the spotlight, but is also the next direct successor to the throne of Genovia.
After finally completing his degree at Cambridge, the eldest Pevensie accepts to move to the small european country to live in the royal castle with his grandmother, where he intends to finish his lessons before the long-awaited day of his coronation cerimony.
Unfortunately, all his plans are put at risk when one of the members of the Genovian Parliament, Viscount Miraz Telmar, claims that his nephew, Lord Caspian, has the legal right to assume the title of king and, for being a young noble who was born and raised in the land, is considered a far more prepared and suitable candidate to the role. To make the whole situation even more insufferable than it already is, both men are invited by Peter's grandmother to stay in the palace for the next couple of weeks, forcing the prince to keep his mouth shut and tolerate the daily presence of the one person who wishes to steal his crown and ruin all the legacy his family has built over the centuries.
The first time they met, Peter had no knowledge about Caspian's identity, nor the real intentions he hid behind his corteous smile. It was a celebration party in honor of Peter's 21st birthday and, as it was demanded of a person in his position, he had already danced with almost every eligible woman standing in that ballroom. He was turning around to walk away from his last waltz when his clumsy foot stepped on a distracted gentleman who happened to be on his way. They both gave awkward smiles and apologized to each other for the little accident, some tender glances being exchanged through the nice course their conversation followed. Suddenly, Peter was on the dance floor again, laughing, flirting and spinning around in the arms of a handsome stranger who seemed almost too sweet and too considerating for his own good.
Peter never feels so deceived in all his life as he does when he goes to receive their new guests and sees Caspian again, with his arrogant, mischivious facet now completely and shamelessly exposed. The next time Peter steps on his foot, he needs to hold himself from not kicking that snobbish brat in a lower and much more painful place.
From now on, Peter decides he won't let himself be defeated by the enemy so easily. He'll put all his effort at learning everything he needs to prove he can be the just, wise ruler the people of Genovia deserves - the kind of ruler his dear father would be proud of -, even if it means to be obligated to find a bride in the next 30 days, a task that would be a lot simpler if: 1) Peter was actually able to feel any sort of attraction to women, and 2) He didn't have to fight constantly against the urge to push Caspian against a wall and kiss the hell out of him everytime they got stuck in another fencing duel or another fervent argument.
However, what Peter can hardly imagine is that, maybe, the man he swears to despise with every fiber of his being, not only shares the same feelings as his, but is, in fact, the one who'll end up bewitching his heart in the end of the story.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY @sarahsartedits 🥳🎉!!! I dedicate this post specially to you.
(also tagging @equixen, as usual 😘)
Almost 2 months ago, I recalled seeing a Tumblr post once talking about this AU concept (here) for Caspeter and then I had the brilliant idea of rewatching "The Princess Diaries 2" (which then led me to watch the first one as well, because I realized I had never watched it entirely 😅).
But seriously, the whole dynamic between Mia and Nicholas is SO PERFECT for Peter and Caspian! The "enemies/rivals to lovers" trope, the sexual tension, the royalty aesthetic and an evil uncle thristy for power as the main villain. I mean, HELLOOO?!!! 💘
I had a lot of fun with this moodboard 😘. Sorry for taking too long to post it.
