been fixating on @star-pup01's fanfiction for a while now. figured I'd try to draw some stuffā¦
ā¦it seems I always want to draw more until I'm sitting in front of a closed notebook and I can't bear to open it⦠well, I hope you enjoy my fourth-grade-looking sketch art. :) maybe next time I can figure out how to take a clearer photo.
Iām glad that youāve been enjoying the fanfic a lot! Always love seeing peopleās sketches and these are very nice. I have caught the iconic flop pose in one of those drawings and it has given me life.
a small very rough comic depicting @star-pup01 s angel in the torment nexus, reflecting a lot of the feelings me and others in the comunity have been struggling with for the past three weeks.
GOOD THING IT WAS A NIGHTMARE. Ralsei opening with that probably would have absolutely killed them instantly. But yknow, nightmare Ralsei did come around. Something something the Angel's comment in one of the chapters about, even in their dreams, not being able to force Ralsei to be mean to them.
Ah well. It's nice to think about what could've been, right? Might end up being canonically accurate in the end with... whatever's been happening.
Love the funky doodles. Knight get yo bitch ass out of here you're about to get folded like a lawn chair.
Part of me hates existing with eyes on me because then people find out very quickly that I am a human person with a range of emotions, and not all of them are palatable.

Were we told why the true reset happened? Im combing through what i remember of the situation before they left and i dont recall a reason for that specifically
If not i assume itll be plot relevant later on
Also cant wait for asriel to either tear into chara about being abandoned or cry that they arent actually gone forever, probably both
The Angel has done countless True Resets. True Resets start to mean nothing when you're just going between every timeline haphazardly. Really, they're just a clean slate.
There was no reason for the Angel's final True Reset just as there was no reason for them doing so hundreds of times as implied by an interaction that Asriel had with them. They were just repeating. Over. And over. And over.
And nothing changed, so eventually, they left the world in a fine spot.
What was the order of events in The angel's Undertale?
Like for example: did they do the neutral ā True pacifist ā Genocide ā every other neutral run
Or did they go through a different order?
Or is it like, up to interpretation?
It's meant to mostly reflect other players' experience, but the Angel was deranged about it in a way that does kinda make their path a bit more distinct.
Neutral (or killing Toriel and resetting, either or) -> Multiple Pacifists -> Dipping into neutrals again -> No Mercy -> Chaotic mess of any timeline that they could possibly try to find anything. This goes on for a very very long time.
The timeline sequence that everyone remembers, because no one but the Angel remembers a True Reset (Including Chara due to them not having the Angel's soul), is the following.
No Mercy -> Every neutral route in succession while trying to uncover every secret along the way -> Pacifist
A new wave of duo arts of @star-pup01 's Angel and the fun gang!!! This time it's goingg to be Idol themed! going back to my roots as idol dress designer :3
Red Ribbon to celebrate Susie finally able to use the ribbon armor!! YAY!!!! the RedRibbon is unfortunately the only ribbon she's willing to wear on her hair however BUT she still wears them :D
You did a great job with the skirts, and this is by far one of my favorite outfits youāve made for the Angel yet. Look at all the silly little wings on their outfit!!! Look!!! Fun gang wristbands making a return also kill me. AAA AAA
Look at them bothā¦. My silliesā¦. They look so unbelievably happy. Susie is going to pounce in two seconds though sheās gonna get them.
I already know about the patch. I have already seen it. My hopes in Tobyās writing is ever-decreasing now that weāre patching in āloreā that also jingle jangles keys.
The one eye is totally for aura purposes, and definitely because I don't wanna bother making the eyes centered in one direction.
They do have both of them don't worry imagine it like sans's eyes, they can turn it off if they feel like. (maybe I'll change how they look eventually, who knows?)
IT'S DONE RAAAAAAGH.
OUGHGHGHGH THE SILLY LITTLE CRITTER! This came out incredibly well! Was great seeing all of your progress on them, and you definitely nailed the snout this go-around!
And honestly, I like the eye thing! They're giving me incredible Seam vibes rn, which is awesome because Seam is the goat. We're not calling it the sans eye though. You have no idea how many player inserts had the sans eye back in the day. WE CAN'T DO IT AGAIN-
Love the heart motif on their overall dress (if that's the correct term). I love that they're even in a dress at all. They get to look just a bit pretty, as a treat. And they got the floppy earsss THE FLOPPY EARSSSS. You can legally make the ears as long as you want this is how it works (I will regret this). I very much enjoy Dreemurr ears flopped on the shoulders you have no idea. Gives me life.
But congrats on finishing it! They came out so well :D Thank you so so much!

I have seen. A consistent theme lately with people stating that Ralsei's actions in chapter 5 towards Kris and us are entirely justifiable, because he cannot possibly know who is doing what in our dynamic. I still have jumbled thoughts on that, but it got me thinking.
And I think this led me to seeing a pattern here which leads me to believe that this game is actually about to do possession theory with its whole chest but in the way where "You are evil for existing and Kris is your hapless victim."
Even though this sucks actual ass.
This is going to be an incoherent ramble that is far too invested in something that upsets me, so only click read more if you want to deal with incessant whining.
It all started with this fucking screenshot.
I use this screenshot a lot. It's verifiable proof of Ralsei acknowledging our existence and KNOWING our skillset. This is later corroborated by him saying that he knows the rules of the world. He is fully aware of who exerts control and who is at the wheel.
In fact, during a scene with Spawn where the escape route is physically behind Kris, Ralsei yells the following
* KRIS!!! RUN LEFT, NOW!!!
Ralsei has talked about battle commands in his tutorials. He has talked about the UI outright. He has mentioned our ability to SAVE. We knew this. This is not new information. What irks me is that Ralsei's nods otherwise are always... strange.
Everything good that you do is always... mentioned as Kris. Ralsei addresses Kris. If he wanted to keep us a secret, this would make sense for him to do (even if that's horseshit at this point). But then there's... moments... where Ralsei inexplicably knows who is talking. If you're mean in ch5 with the tea thing, then he switches to talking about Kris instead.
* If you... if Kris makes the tea for me by hand...
But whenever you're nice, whenever you do something or try to be kind, it's always Kris who you are seen as! Every good deed is them, while every bad deed suddenly awakens a sixth sense that "Oh it's that pesky little soul!"
This isn't fucking new to Undertale and Deltarune and I'm so mad I'm seeing echoes of it happening again with no hint of irony seen in the actual plot.
Let's go review Undertale.
When you complete True Pacifist, suddenly, everything that you did is seen as things Frisk did. Frisk was always the one doing the actions. Why would you think any different? Every mention of YOUR friends, every instance of second person, is now suddenly replaced with Frisk's name. "Despite everything, it's still you" is replaced with "Still just you, Frisk." Every single personal moment that you experienced with this game has now been replaced, but you were never Frisk. What right do you have to be upset?
Then you decide to kill everything and everyone.
And suddenly... like magic... the game turns its eyes to you. It looks through you. Sans calls you an anomaly. Chara addresses you with "You" only when the world is destroyed. It's your fault. It's all your fault. It couldn't be anyone else's fault, because you were the one who pressed the stupid little button.
So... why is it only ever you... why are you only ever acknowledged... when you do wrong?
Just as you chose to hit the fight button every single time you kill a monster, you choose to spare monsters and choose which options are most likely to end the fight non-violently. You learn about these people and try earnestly to be friend them. You begin to open your heart up and care, and the game welcomes you in to do this before-
It was all Frisk. It was all Kris.
"I hope you can be friends with everyone someday." Isn't that what you said, Toby? Then why does your writing never act like it?
Let's go back to Deltarune.
You can make every conscious choice to love. You can select every kind option to the best of your ability. You can try to watch these people grow and help them find out who they are. They never really address you in a way that you'd hope, but you can still see them flourish. You begin to change the ending. You try everything in your might to help your friends while the very person that you are caged in attempts to subvert you. But you never raise your weapon against those who accept mercy. You choose Ralsei's path of kindness to try to find a better outcome.
...and... what is the end result of that?
Pink, your BODY⦠it's⦠its own person, too.
Don't you think your body deserves a say, too!?
People have tried to twist this into Ralsei not truly understanding our dynamic. And yet, he has a sixth sense for Kris being the good piano player. Maybe that's the point. Maybe he only knows our rules, that we control, but if he knows our rules... then why not our limitations?
Oh wait, he knows where we're limited too. He is able to walk us over a carpet of spikes because we can't get over the stupid little hitbox.
So, after all of that, the undying faith is still in Kris. Kris gets outright exonerated by Ralsei for making fountains, unquestioned even the slightest. People also try to claim that Ralsei thinks it's us doing it, but he prefaced the conversation with Kris' piano playing. He knows.
Every good deed... is seen as Kris. Every misstep they take isn't actually a misstep worth a character daring to question at this point.
So then what happens when you make the conscious choice to tear it all to pieces?
Weird Route.
Welcome back, sixth sense. I missed you.
The game suddenly starts acknowledging you again. It isn't Kris' voice anymore giving the commands. It isn't Kris' voice that Noelle hears anymore. The game makes a clear distinction between Kris calling out their friends' name and you calling out Noelle's name. There's a whole scene in the hospital to rub Noelle's understanding in your face. But, this can all be excused considering that Noelle notices something wrong with Kris in a normal route too. She'd know!
Then we get to Ralsei.
Who instantly knows Weird Route is happening. There's no possibility in his mind that Kris could be doing these things suddenly, because in chapter 5, he's elated to see that they're okay! All of those deeds are suddenly no longer Kris', they're ours!
EDIT: And you can claim that this is because "Oh Kris would never do the evil things" Hey I'm not the one stabbing fountains into the ground, and half of the "bad options" you can say aren't stifled by Kris. Kris spends a whole two chapters making sure you're not mean to Ralsei, but you can say "Good, keep smiling" perfectly fine? The double-standard for what is Kris and what is us is INSANE and I'm tired of acting like they don't have their own demons. I get why Noelle, characterization wise, would detect Kris. I get why Ralsei, the person who knows the rules, would detect Kris. However, everything in this narrative was put in by a writer, and it has put in ZERO effort other than one singular Gaster line during the Knight battle to tell you even a simple 'good job'. It's not that I cannot see how characters got here, it's that I don't think the narrative sees why that's a PROBLEM.
And then I started thinking about one piece of the puzzle that never quite fit for me.
The Twisted Sword.
We know next to nothing about it, only that it offers a trance down. This has made it perplexing to me, because many have insisted that it will be claimed in the Weird Route (or an aborted Weird Route) to... subjugate Kris? Subjugate Noelle more? Loosen our connection with Kris so that we can body hop?
All inconclusive. And then Weird Route decided that it was going to send two kids into a lake without a Shadow Crystal. Aborted Weird Route still technically exists, but I'm unconvinced of the idea so far that it's going to do something.
Neither here nor there, but I'd like to talk about the Twisted Sword in relation not to the ThornRing, but the PureCrystal.
Seam says that the PureCrystal will create something that we will like, something that will be very very interesting. The only item so far that we have seen this thing used with... IS the ThornRing. The only way to get it so far is an aborted Weird Route, but the ThornRing reads to me as getting a lategame item early that you aren't supposed to have. So I'm not quite sure that there's no way we can't obtain this via another method.
Originally, I always thought the Twisted Sword was an option that would be smashing this item representing freedom over your knee to fuel your own devices.
But if the Twisted Sword is the intended path, I fear what it will mean by Trance Down. The Pure Crystal is various dreams of different types of freedom pushed together. What would a sword, wieldable by Kris, that gives trance down, actually do?
They need us. Kris needs us for whatever plan they have. They can freely remove us and put us back in to take control. They can deny our options. They have the final call in so many situations, and yet I fear the game is going to act like that isn't the case.
The good ol "Your choices don't matter, but theirs do" that everyone has been touting around.
I fear the Twisted Sword is literally just there to relinquish control, and to become a god damned battery, and the game will act like this is a good thing. UTDR has always acted like it is a good thing that you are forgotten. Let Frisk be happy. Let Frisk live their life. If you disagree with what Kris is doing, you just don't understand it yet. All of this trying? All of this caring? It means nothing, because you're other. You're too beyond them. What is that about Darkners being loved even though they're on a different level of existence? That doesn't apply to you. Why? Because that's the only story that Toby Fox knows how to tell.
So then what was the point? Why were you here at all? Were you here just to help everyone else flourish, only to be forgotten because... that's what you're supposed to do?
What... makes you any different than Ralsei's mindset in chapter 3 then?
Is it suddenly okay if it's us just because we have a 9-5 to go back to in real life?
If Toby was TRYING to do a nuanced metanarrative, then as far as we have seen UP TO CHAPTER 5, he has failed. The fact that people can't even agree on what Pink meant and use it to support whatever theory resonates with them the best is BAFFLING to me. I'm not even concerned about being right about Pink anymore. I'm concerned about the fact that Ralsei gave some of the biggest slap in the face dialogue in the game, and I'm supposed to not act like I just got punched in the jaw!
If Toby's metanarrative is just Undertale But We Poke You For Taking Up Space, then it's not a good one! You cannot imply intent for harm on our side when we didn't choose this, we didn't ask to be put in Kris, we don't do any of the shitty things that they do on their own, and IF WE EVER QUIT, THE WORLD ENDS.
I fear that one of the final resolutions of this game will be it trying to convince you that your cage takes up too much space in Kris' room.
Hewwo, I'm uh- kinda curious and thunked to ask this...
So like, if Chapter 5 came out before Chapter 4... do you think you'd be fine with Chapter 5? Like Chapter 5, before 4, wouldn't be this tone shift and 4 would flow also flow into 6 and 7 pretty nicely me thinks.
Also like... I don't get the idea that Toby Fox who's middle name as enforced by the community is 'Radiation' doesn't have enough time for everything being covered in Chapter's 6 and 7?
Pretend with me that 5 has been erased from existence and the only remnant of it is a man behind a tree for a sec.
1 2 3 4 6 7
If 4 is the set up to the lore being dropped... that's like 1/3rd of the game left to cover it. Including 4 in the "What the hell is up with the Dark World and related stuff" list, the lore drops take up half the game (ignoring chapter 5 of course).
And also Chapter length isn't like... static? Here look at this website! It has the general lengths it takes to beat each chapter on it! Maybe not the most reliable, but like Chapter 1 compared to Chapter 5 is a three hour difference! And that's ignoring the extra stuff and just playing through from A to B casually!
So like, if 4, which was 5ish hours, could do so much that it did with that amount of time... then if 6 and 7 are as long then I think it'll be fine!
So who knows, 6 and 7 might come out and you could just ignore 5 and things would be fine!
Maybe.
Hopefully?
As respectfully as possible, this is a revolving door at this point where people keep trying to āreassure meā against my fears about this game. I was called irrational even when ch5 hadnāt come out yet that I didnāt know how Toby was going to resolve all of it in three chapters. Well, now everyone else is suddenly feeling the time crunch a little more.
We are analyzing the game as-is. Since it decided to release chapter by chapter, it is subject to scrutiny chapter by chapter.
First, in my post about āhow do we have room for all of thisā, I stressed additional things. Can it be done in a way that is WELL PACED, SATISFYING, and ANSWERS ALL THE QUESTIONS. With everything being pinned to these two chapters, and with the Roaring telegraphed to happen at some point, time is so unbelievably compressed. The only solution is for obscenely long chapters, which can shoot pacing in the head and cause chapters to be a slog to play through. Chapter 5, admittedly, was already starting to feel like that.
āHalf of the game is lore if you remove this chapterā is disingenuous, because it removes the context of what Chapter 4 set up as the tone for the game. Chapter 4 set up that things were changing from now on, that thereās a storm coming, and that all of these characters care about each other and are going to stick together through thick and thin. All of this character and plot development is then subsequently ignored in ch5, meaning that we have character regressed and will likely need whole ass arcs to happen again in ch6.
The pacing of the game is shot by ch5 no matter which way you slice it. It did functionally nothing to progress or even lightly nudge a plot forward
It also broke which questions were being primed.
At the end of ch4, we had Susie beginning to ask about the soul. We had Ralseiās identity plot front and center. We had the prophecy shattered and Susieās hope and resolve that it wasnāt going to happen. All of those little plot threads were primed to be attacked, and thenā¦
Itās all dropped.
So now, we have to somehow reignite those plot threads. We have to find a new impetus. We have to get BACK to those threads naturally in order to answer them⦠unless we just have Ralsei stand around and do an unsatisfying lore drop. And let me tell you, we are in no position to get to these questions anytime soon in ch6 with how ch5 left us. We left off with Susie nice and comfy in castle town, and sheās likely going to go tell Noelle about Dark Worlds which will lead to Noelle making one to save her dad.
So we have to battle with the current actual plot so that the plot Already being primed can finally come back. And the Roaring is going to happen on top of that.
You all are well meaning and trying to comfort me, but I have REASONS for feeling the way I do about this game.
Halting here because I have to go into work, but this is my cursory thoughts on the āchapter lengthā argument.
Post ch5 discussions are a special kind of exhausting and I think I'm getting way too exhausted for something that gives me no tangible benefit.
8 years. 8 actual years of a story that's chasing itself in circles, and every chapter that releases causes the fanbase to become more aggressive than the last time.
I pray that my writing is done before it gets worse.
I try not to personally put in swears unless I feel like they enhance the scene or match for the character. They're rare. I could see him doing it at this point though.
Is it strange to say I am a little bit genuinely apprehensive about how things will go when the Angel gets their game sprite into the Roaring andā¦ā¦ meets DR Asriel
Like itās been thoroughly established so far that the Angel and UT Asriel went to SERIOUS blows because of Flowey (later Asriel) being obstinate and purposely antagonistic (for incredibly well-written and understandable reasons but STILL). The Angel is only just coming to a more peaceful equilibrium with Asriel, and even then I honestly donāt think itāll be all that āpeacefulā of one⦠I think there will still be plenty of room for antagonism⦠and at this point, despite their guilt, I think the Angel does genuinely hate Asriel as much as he hates them, and I believe they have the right to hold onto that hatred.
So Iām just a wee bit apprehensive about how theyāll react to meeting DR Asriel⦠albeit through a screen. I get a knot of anxiety when I think of what will happen when the Angelās sprite rocks up claiming to be the Angel, from Prophecy, which Asriel has now spent a good while loudly decrying.
With Carol and the Dreemurrs and the Heroes all present.
It just feels like an enormous powder keg waiting to blow.
Luckily, this question would wait until the Angel is physically there. After all, they will be supposedly using their vessel that is still present within the Shelter.
The one without a face.
DR!Asriel has been sowing a hell of a lot of doubt though, but it could equally work in everyone's favor. Unfortunately, Carol can be quite persuasive, and she tends to be the one who shifts the blame for the Roaring onto the Angel for deviating from the path.
So so many things that can go wrong in a tight space full of disgruntled people.

am i the only one who felt like chapter 5 was building to something player-related the whole time? like maybe i was just looking too deep into it but it all just felt so off.
the constant references to things in chapter 1, ralsei being forced to put the hat back on, the red trees at the beginning, the floradinns, the title popping up for Garden of Hopes and Dreams (which hasn't happened since Field of Hopes and Dreams in chapter 1!!)
And???? The colored flowers just being the human souls?? to the point where they use the associated items and the ball game attributes in their check text????
Ralsei being revealed to have the ability to alter his own stats, and him being about to say something when protesting the infinite money chest only to backtrack and say the economy? And his aborted speech about the menus that I'm still bitter at flowery over?
Oh! And the shift in the player's perspective when we use the feather! Shifting to a new control scheme that should be immediately and obviously different and strange to our party members in-universe!
Even all the way to the end when flowery had his own recruits and was able to increase susie and ralsei's mercy meters!!
I haven't beat the secret boss yet, but I've read about it and it seems like despite all the parallels to us and kris, there's no actual progress with that plot point.
We don't even get any free-roam sections this chapter!
Obviously not all of this was going to amount to things, but some details in particular (especially the music title thing and the colored flowers being the human souls) just feel so odd to not have an in-universe meaning.
I keep hearing that there's still two more chapters and payoff can come later, but some of this is so chapter specific? Are we really gonna talk about the flowers' check text again when that dark world is already sealed?
The fact that we're 5/7 chapters in and there's still been no real player mentions, the fact that all our relevant scenes are still just kris tearing us out for a bit before the plot moves on like nothing happened (and susie and ralsei are STILL basically just ignoring it?? Why is everyone just pretending to be clueless all the time???)
it makes almost me wonder if the player has ever been very important to the plot at all, or if this has just been another case of the fandom collectively hallucinating because of confusing signals from toby, like what we did with the whole "chara is evil and possessing frisk" bs
uh yeah sorry for the rant I just wanted to share with a fellow player supporter
also I really was intending to keep commenting on AFWT but I've kinda been really embarrassed about our last interactions aha
GUYS!!!! LOOK!!!!!!! IT'S THE "LAST GOOD ADVENTURE" MEANT TO EMULATE THE FIRST ADVENTURE!!! HAHAHAHAA LOOK AT HOW MUCH WE'RE CLINGING TO THE PAST!!!!!!!
Insecure ass narrative. If the story wanted to show the storm on the horizon, then it should have colored all of the chapter interactions with the information learned last chapter! Instead, the most we get is wishy washy Ralsei bullshit where he and Flowery have a competition about who can be vague the most.
You can write calm before the storm. You can write a fluff chapter. You can write one last good day before everything goes wrong. The problem is you also cannot do that while ignoring what happened previously! You cannot just seemingly remove how deeply affected characters were in Ch4 the morning after! If you want to do that plotline where everyone is clinging to normalcy, then SHOW IT! Instead, we have character regression all over the place with Susie not giving a singular shit about Ralsei's bullying and leaving him behind after she BLED ON HIS FACE I AM GOING TO LOSE IT.
Oh yeah, the main meat of the ask.
Yeah, you'd think this chapter would deal with the soul, especially considering how there's a whole ass soul pixel art you can reveal in one of the gardens with a watering can. Nope! We get one whiff of UI stuff before it's just completely shattered! The game feels like it's building to something with all of this talk about cheating, but then explodes.
Because Flowery fucking dies. All that cheating? Yeah, we just figured out what it brings. Almost like since ch1 we've known that fully shattering the prophecy through drastic means would also probably affect the ending of "the world's being saved".
This chapter is the quintessential nothing burger. It's long. It's arduous. There's so many lines of dialogue and strange things in it. But all of it is so needlessly vague and leads to absolutely nowhere to the point where it's exhausting to engage with. Look in the direction of the fanbase right now! They're all tearing each other apart because nearly every single plot point, character or otherwise, was handled in the most vague way possible so everyone's jumping each other on what the "correct" interpretation is. I'm here to tell you that yall deserve better writing at this point, because holy FUCK subtext is cool and all, but I think it's time for characters to talk like people instead of talking with specifically enough information to keep us in the dark, even when a character has no motive to do so.
2 chapters to go, and there's not enough time to resolve all of this in a way that's satisfying and well-paced without making the chapters both 20 damn hours long. I don't think people realize that we're pretty much doomed to have a Roaring segment during all of this. That's going to hijack the plot entirely for a bit, so you have even LESS time.
Can't wait to be a macguffin for 2 seconds and get some "Waow you did it :D We are all happy now fuck off" text at the end!
The biggest criticism out of this chapter that Toby needs to internalize is that this abject disappearance of all emotional depth, stripped away from characters that should be more interesting than this and completely absent from any of the newer characters, was a terrible idea. Nobodyās asking any interesting questions, the plot is on sabbatical, and with nothing else to say or advance towards, the dialogue is reduced to needless bickering and bullying. The shallowness of this writing almost makes it feel amateurish, but calling it that is an insult to amateurs everywhere, especially in the world of all this fandom spawned from the game.
A more damning comparison to make is that this is the Tears of the Kingdom to Deltarune Chapter 1ās Breath of the Wild, in the sense that despite reusing so many assets and ideas (I cannot BELIEVE the arrogance of the song title āInappropriate Recyclingā), it is utterly uninterested in exploring the ramifications of the prequelās story and worldbuilding and deeper meaning (to the point that you could almost think of both of them as āsecond drafts trying to overshadow the originalā instead of as āsequelsā), in favor of focusing on mechanically fascinating and technically impressive game mechanics that are not utilized nearly well enough by the story to justify the time spent implementing them (e.g. Ultrahand builds despawning instead of having tangible benefits to other NPCs in 99% of cases with little creative freedom in the remaining 1%, no questioning of the Petal Feather game mechanics and the fact weāre suddenly okay with āattacking other peopleās attacksā from Susie and Ralsei unlike the constant banter from the games in Chapter 3).
There is no possible way in hell that this incoherent mess wouldāve been included in the initially-planned 3+4+5 release schedule as it is right now. We fought a TITAN in Chapter 4 and they expect us to be satisfied with a return to form??? What could have possibly happened during development for this to be the final result????? (Conspiracy theory: the Undertale 10th anniversary livestream took place so that Toby could gauge audience responses to whether learning more about the other six fallen humans from Undertale would seem interesting, and he learned the wrong lesson from that)
The TOTK comparison at first made me go "I think we're grasping at straws" but the more I thought about it. Lmfaoooooo wait you're right.
The chapter, like TOTK, forgets it's a sequel (or outright ignores the fact that events transpired directly before this that should PROBABLY AFFECT THINGS). This is a CHAPTER in a CHAPTER BASED STORY where it so very rarely actually acts like the previous chapters exist. Again, to reiterate a point I've said so many times, Susie bled on Ralsei's face. They fought a Titan together. They saw the Final Tragedy together.
But ohhhh we can forget about THAT because it's time for FESTIVAL SUSELLE MOMENTS.
The side scroller thing as well is making me cackle. It is exactly what happened when TOTK released as well. Most criticism of the game was deflected by "Well I think the build mechanic was fun" when it's entirely disjointed from the rest of the game and appears to be pushing the limitations for... what exactly? Deltarune's RPG mechanics are still woefully underdeveloped. You have no way of tactically engaging with the bullet board portion of combat, HALF OF THE BATTLE STATE, unless an ACT tells you that you can. No means of defense. No ways of affecting bullets. No push and pull with the dodging system to sacrifice progress to make an attack easier for you. Your "choice" is dodge and heal.
Also, another TOTK-like trait, characters just utterly forget the trajectory of their character arcs and what they went through previously. Like seriously? Link is back to doing the silent knight schtick for Zelda and Hyrule even though we clearly established that's toxic to him in BOTW, and instead of continuing that arc, we instead show him not emoting at all when Zelda's fate is revealed. Also we're reestablishing Hyrule despite how much harm it has caused and showing everyone swearing fealty to Zelda as a good thing. Lol. Lmao. Yeah, let's have Ralsei forget all that he has been trying to do against the prophecy. Let's have Susie completely forget her resolve against the prophecy and to keep her friends close. Let's have Susie lose all of her perceptiveness when something's wrong with her friends!!! I LOVE IT WHEN CHARACTER ARCS GET RESET!!!! I LOVE IT WHEN WE GO BACK TO SQUARE ZERO BECAUSE WE NEED KRIS TO NOT BE QUESTIONED YET!! AAA AAA
See people keep telling me that this chapter would've made a hell of a lot more sense if it was included in the package, and I couldn't disagree more. If we had that doom and gloom chapter, and then just skipped to happy stuff without anything being addressed, I would genuinely begin to wonder what the fuck Deltarune's story even is. Ch3 and 4 had some of the most potent build-up in the game, and then it all gets dropped??? At least I would've known not to waste my damn time with the series.
Genuinely, Deltarune is about to get the Zelda treatment where I start actively ignoring chunks of it, because I see what's trying to be done, and I think it's a stupid ass decision so I've elected to ignore it in favor of doing my own thing.
