They go on runs to protect the child if they feel even the slightest threatened no matter where. If the child needs them to go on vacation with them, they do. Bikers come from across the nation to watch over and take shifts for these kids. And the best part is once you’re adopted into this family as a BACA kid, you’re always one. Even when you’re 40 and the perp gets released from jail, they’ll come meet with you and find your best options for avoiding the person and maintaining the life you’ve built for yourself. Once a BACA child, always a BACA child. In Florida, there’s 100% rate for identifying the perp based on the child’s testimony. Why? Because BACA stands with the child and supports the child so they feel comfortable enough to point out their attacker.

They’re in Canada as well and probably other countries. I met and talked with a native guy who runs the place near me. His name is Shaman. I got in, and I’m considered a BACA child now. Despite being 17, turning 18 when I talked to them. They spent time with me when my abuser was over, they gave me therapy resources. They give you something called a ‘level 1′ where they go to your house with as many bikers as they can, i shit you not a solid 20-40 bikers came from even out of province, and met me. I got to choose my biker name and I got a vest with patches on it and my name on it. They all hugged a Teddybear before giving it to me, and told me if I ever felt the BACA bear was running out of love, to give them a call and they’d refill it for me, and then I got a ride on one of their bikes. Just a day or so ago I went to an annual party with them and they we ate food one of them cooked and had a lot of laughs. 

I’ve never felt as loved as I did being a part of the BACA family. They also gave me dog tags with the names, and phone numbers of my 2 workers.  So I can call them whenever I feel scared. 

BACA is an absolutely wonderful group that will do everything in it’s power to help any child whos been abused. 

And it doesn’t end when you’re 18 either. As long as you get in contact/get your level 1 before you’re 18? you’re ALWAYS a BACA kid. I’m 18 now and they still invite me to parties, ask me if I’m okay, and are there for me. They’re still trying to find me resources for therapy. 

BACA has changed my fucking life. 

Hotel workers have a 40% higher injury rate than other service workers.

Hispanic housekeepers are two-thirds more likely to be injured than white housekeepers.

66 percent take pain medication just to get through their daily work.

Here’s how you can make housekeepers’ jobs a little less shitty.

Reduce bending situations. For instance, hotels often tell you to toss towels on the floor that you want replaced. Try setting the towels on the closed toilet instead.

Gather all the trash cans into one.

Leave a note saying not to change the towels every day. 

Make your own beds.

Write a note with a tip thanking the housekeeper for not making the beds.

You can strip the beds by taking off all the sheets (including the ones holding the duvet, if that’s the system the hotel uses) and pillowcases, putting them in a pile, and then piling or loosely folding the blankets and duvet and putting them in a separate pile with the pillows on the stripped bed.

Tip daily. The same housekeepers aren’t always there every day.

$2-5 per person, per day is the expected gratuity if you’re a courteous guest.

Remember to mark it clearly for them so they know it’s for them to take (as opposed to leaving bills just sitting out willy-nilly).

Do Not Disturb: If you put up a Do Not Disturb sign, the housekeeper is usually just given another room to clean. In a lot of cases, that new room will be outside their normal section, one of the leftover rooms in another part of the hotel. This means they’ll have to push their heavy cart a little farther, spend time waiting for an elevator, and then have to clean a little faster to get it done. That other room might also be a normal, fine room, or it might be a disaster zone, where someone gutted a fish in the tub or spilled Pepsi on the bed. And if there isn’t an extra room to be given to a housekeeper when they have a DND, they’ll probably just be sent home early (especially if it’s a non-union hotel), so they lose some of that day’s pay.

I also wouldn’t be averse to anyone just dropping me 3 dollars if they’re able. The final piece will be posted to this blog (unless specified otherwise), and the commissioner will receive a high resolution image and the PSD file.

There are 3 bullet holes in my room. One grazed my arm. I am writing this post from the hospital.

I live in an apartment with my mom and my 9 year old sister. Our neighbors are drug dealers and have been terrorizing us since they moved next door. They fought their dogs in our yard. They shot my moms car windows out. They verbally threatened to assault my mom. And tonight, our apartment was caught in their crossfire. About 5 bullets penetrated our apartment, there were a total of about 30-40 gunshots I heard in all. 3 of those bullets entered the apartment right next to my bed, where I was sitting then the gunshots began. If I hadve ducked even 10 seconds later than I did, I would’ve taken 3 bullets to directly to the torso.

We have reported their activities to police three times, and all three times nothing was done. None of the officers even went over to their apartment to ask any questions. They always came in, stayed for a few minutes and listened, then left. I even showed them video evidence of the dogfights they’d have in our yard, which i would insert here but it is too graphic to show and I don’t want my identity out there. and still nothing was done.

We cannot live like this any longer. We need a new home. My mother is an entrepreneur and makes our living solely on ebay. She does well, but we still do not have any money leftover and things are always tight. I don’t have a job, I quit my job to take care of my aging grandmother who lost mobility about three months ago. We need a miracle. I am too afraid to go back to that place. I don’t know what we can do, but money talks and if we can put enough money down, we can get a small rent to own house in a better neighborhood. On top of this, I don’t have health insurance, and the bill for my er visit is looming.

Please. I saw my sister scream “I don’t wanna die” as my arm bled and I held her to try to comfort her as the shots were still firing. I don’t wanna see that again. We cannot stay here and wait for something worse to happen. If there’s any way anyone can help us, even $1, please please please I am begging you, find it in your heart to do so. And even if you can’t or don’t want to, if you’re from the u.s., help us by using your voting power to get these fucking guns off the streets and out of the hands of people like the ones who nearly killed me today.
