There's a grain of truth in every fairytale

Let’s play the biggest game of kick the can on the internet.

As of this morning I was reluctantly looking for jobs because I love my job and don't want to leave it, but see: $10k raise problem solver.

As of noon today this was no longer an issue, because my boss called me with the news that I was getting a $10K merit raise.

I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. This is roughly $200 extra per paycheck. Enough to pay off debt faster, rebuild my savings, and spend a weekend a month in Milwaukee getting obscenely laid. The sex I'm going to have on $200 extra per paycheck. You can't even.

For those who weren’t around in the Deep Lore times, this is one of the relics of the editable post era. This post has THE SINGLE HIGHEST NOTES of ANY post on this site, bar none, but with more than a dozen variations. Every single post you’ve ever seen with more than 3 million notes has been a different version of this one.

This is the “Dean’s Gym Shorts” post. This is the Flubber post. This is the original “Reblog if you support gay people” post. it was ALL of them. before half the site got nuked, it had even more notes than it has now - at one point, well over 15 million, and that was years ago.

*gets shampoo in my eyes*: I guess I'm blind now how am I ever going to see my first born child

*heart is beating fast*: I think I am having a heart attack is this what cardiac arrest is

*a cop walks by*: here I go about to get arrested I probably murdered someone

*taking a test*: don't take your eyes off of this paper you will get caught cheating and get kicked out of school and amount to nothing

*gets a sunburn*: great now I have skin cancer how will I tell my parents

Talking about Cayde-6 of course, our closest equivalent to a poster boy for Destiny.

So lets ask ourselves the big question:

Is this good for narrative hype or just a Bad™ move?

Cayde-6 has been with us for a long time, a more characteristically lighthearted mentor since D1 (or a bad role model, depends on who you ask), easily recognized over his more seriously-toned partners because of his usual dialogue and antics. From D1 till now, we’ve got plenty reason to be invested in his character.

But would his death mark good narrative twist? It can be, if executed properly.

Cayde is already described as such a traveled character, there’s just no good reason to not make that loss felt in the Destiny universe. Let us feel the impact of losing such a staple character, let it have weight not only to us as players but also in the universe where he left his footprint, and LET IT LAST.

I cannot express that last bit enough. Even if it’s just small subtle nods - I want to hear Cayde’s lasting impression on the world and all characters we meet moving forward. 

He’s the perfect kind of Guardian to do it with too - He’s a Hunter. More than anyone else, we never forget the dead.

I mean of course Zavala and Ikora will have something to say. But imagine his own people, someone like Ana Bray, or returning Hunter figures like Shiro-4 and Eris Morn, or maybe even those yet to come like Himura Shinobu or Shin Malphur. Each of them legends in their own right, but each having their own piece to say on the Hunter who is — was — the best of them. Doesn’t have to be long winded speeches. Subtle, passing dialogue works — short but genuine takes on the wildest gun that ever crossed the frontier.

When you describe Hunters there’s really only two schools of thought: Are they a Pahanin or a Shin Malphur? A sarcastic loon or an edgy bastard? Once you figure that out, the rest falls into place. What we do in the end doesn’t change.

We’ll walk the longest roads, climb the tallest mountains, search the greatest unknowns, and every daring exploit along the way just marks our wild existence and ennobles our flaming hearts. Don’t even get me started on dares – because we’ll fucking do it. The more dangerous the better. You want me to try and break off Lord Shaxx’s other horn? Consider it done.

You know why Hunters are this way? Because being that kind of crazy or curious can be inspiring, reminds you to forget about all your fears and embrace bravery. If this idiot Hunter can do it, so can you, Guardian. And just who was the biggest and most lovable idiot of us all? You guessed it.
