Scenes I’d like to see.
Yes! I would definitely like to see these kinds of moments that we didn’t get in canon explicitly. It would help keep the series fresher for ppl who have already practically memorized the books, lol!
I 100% approve all these notes.
holy shit y’all should watch this one, what an admirable person

“make yourselves impossible to ignore. 10,000 signatures on twitter is a lot but 10 unique personal emails is enough to derail an entire council session.”
I was in a city council meeting last week about defunding the police and one of the council members mentioned multiple times that she’d been inundated with calls and emails all that day saying to defund the police.
[ID: Two screenshots of a twitter thread by alex flanigan, anti-fascist @Coff33Detective from June 12, 2020 beginning at 11:25 AM that reads: hi! i work in local government and community management, and i’m here to tell you a secret: it is like, really, really easy to overwhelm the people who work in your local government. especially right now. especially on things they can actionably do or impact.
you may not know this, but i bet your city or town or municipality has a website. i bet that website has some contact forms or email addresses on it. i bet you can use them to put together a message in about 5 minutes! i bet it’s almost as easy as signing a national petition.
which is to say: i’m noticing, like most other people, that the national level discussion on really important and long overdue issues is flagging. but the internet and news cycle is not the only battleground, and you will be pleasantly surprised by how easy it is to—
—fight those battles at home, on your own turf, with much more immediate impact, and they are so, so important.
I am begging you: make my job, and the jobs of people like me, difficult right now. flood us with demands. make yourselves impossible to ignore. 10,000 signatures on twitter is a lot but 10 unique personal emails is enough to derail an entire council session. End ID]
I’ve been a city council observer with the League of Women Voters for nearly a year, and I have witnessed the following:
A few guys voicing their anxiety about speeding on a street where their children play and suggesting a radar speed sign. Despite catching all of two meetings where this was mentioned, I walked back home one day and–yep–there was a radar speed sign up.
A persistent force of 3-5ish loud residents coming to zoning and council meetings because they did not want a drive through style restaurant moving into a particular area where there were already major issues with traffic congestion and safety. This eventually resulted in a Chik-fil-a having its planning proposal shot down by council such that the lot is now likely to house an Aldi. I am getting low cost groceries instead of bigotry chicken in my neighborhood because of a D&D party’s worth of regular speakers.
A turnout of residents shouting down an attempt to reduce the amount of funding for the community Juneteenth celebration until Council backed down. One meeting. Roughly a dozen people + their kids speaking about the significance of the holiday. The celebration ended up having its full funding restored.
In my experience, it is incredibly easy to bully local politicians and get some sort of results, especially in small municipalities. If you have something that you want to see happen at the local level, seriously try to contact your local officials and see what you can make happen.

If they ever adapt this storyline I really hope that the show Fareed will be more ethical as a doctor than he was in the books and that they change the details around Viktor's conception. Am I the only one who thought that Fareed's actions were very shady? Lestat never consented to his sperm being used for making a baby, he only thought it was for medical/scientific reasons. I actually think that he would say yes if Fareed ever asked, but he didn't. Instead he acted like a weirdo and stole his sperm to make a clone and then kept it hidden. I wonder what was his reason for doing this? I get that we shouldn't expect morality from vampires but he was a doctor and the whole thing was terribly unethical. And don't get me started on everyone witholding info about Viktor from Lestat. If the show will go there, I want Lestat to experience raising his own child.
I get what you're saying, but... canonically Fareed is "only" in it for the science. The ... possibility. That's his passion.
Human morals mean nothing to him (anymore). In fact he canonically turns humans to then kill them and uses the (then) vampiric body parts for other vampires! For example.
As per Viktor, there is the concern somewhere how Lestat might react, but Fareed is fathered by Seth, and twenty years... are nothing to Seth, and that surely must reflect on Fareed and his outlook, given he is absolutely immortal and almost indestructible right after turning, given Seth's powerful blood.
In fact, if we want to point fingers - then I would say Gabrielle should have told Lestat as soon as she knew. Because she knew and she did not exactly bend herself out of shape to tell him, on the contrary. -.-
And I always hated the way she treats him there, too. As a mom I think it not funny, at all, and everyone who thinks it's ooooohhhh so funny how she slaps Lestat there (I have seen those posts) should probably take a real long hard look in the mirror. -.-
Science note:
Sex cells, egg and sperm, are what are called haploids, i.e. they only have HALF the normal amount of DNA. It's why children look kind of like their mother and kind of like their father. This is High School level biology.
If Viktor was a clone with, and I quote, "the full packet of the father's DNA," then there is no way he came from a sperm cell. DNA for a clone could be obtained from a cheek scraping. Meaning the whole awkward sex scene with Flannery was completely unneccessary.
Firefighter demonstrates how to put out a kitchen fire
Reblog to actually save a life
To explain. The latter works because you’re cutting off the supply of oxygen to the fire and suffocating it
as opposed to slapping oxygen inside the pan with the downward motion
Reblogging, because this is so important. When I was learning how to cook for myself in my tweens, I had at least a five years of fire safety seminars from school drilling this into my head, and I STILL had that instinctive put-the-fire-out-with-water reflex. Didn’t even think. I saw our oily burner catch fire after frying eggs, whipped around towards the sink for water, and my brain immediately screamed NO!!! NO WATER! I mean that fire safety stuff straight up bitchslapped me out of REFLEXIVELY setting my house on fire. I found a pot lid and inched it over the burner before turning off the heat. Even if you think you know this stuff, panic is powerful shit. Make knowledge more powerful.

This man is the grandson of a Canadian Nazi sympathizer who moved to South Africa BECAUSE he thought the apartheid was just the coolest.
He has a gaggle of kids specifically because he believes his genes are superior and need to be spread to improve humanity.
He has thrown his support behind the neonazi party in Germany and the far right party in the UK, not to mention how far he's wormed up the ass of the Republican party.
He threw two sieg heil salutes back to back at the inauguration of the president of the United States and is trying to scrub the evidence off the internet.

Isnt the bloody chamber by Angela Carter?
You are absolutely right. My bad. Lee's is "Red as Blood."
Shared here today by Matthew Boroson on Facebook.
Tanith Lee was the first woman to win the British Fantasy Award for best novel, for the second book of the Flat Earth series. She died in 2015. You can buy Tales From the Flat Earth here in paperback or here on Kindle.
Highly recommended Lee's The Bloody Chamber, a seminal work in dark fairy tales.

-what Anne Rice actually wrote about Lestat
Forgive me, I've had two Blue Hawaiian margaritas at a work thing and I Have Thoughts.
Re: Anne Rice and menstruation.
I know, I know, we love to focus on this moment in Mennoch, but for the moment please allow me to redirect your attention, theydies and gentlethems, to Anne Rice's seminal porn works, the Beauty series, in which every other bodily fluid is mentioned, but oddly, despite the presence of literally hundreds of young, nubile "princesses," nobody ever, ever, has a period.
Add in the fact that "Sleeping Beauty" was the late Michelle Rice's favorite tale, and I am left with a serious case of

I just want to point out the core of what the diffuser did in this conversation
They recognized that the mother was also expressing a vulnerable truth about herself - that she felt like a bad mother because her child was expressing gender feelings she wasn’t equipped to help with - and met her where she was, a concerned parent with limited information - to point her where she should be heading, research and resources.
Im going to make more of an effort to stop reflexively pushing people away when they express biases and make more of an effort to hear the underlying fears when i can
