Nah you’re totally welcome to ask lmao!! I just don’t know exactly how to answer because it feels like being asked my opinion on the Count Von Count puppet’s portrayal of Dracula lmfao like it’s such a derivative entity I feel like it’s impossible to really attach it to the source material in any serious way??

The concept of a black vampire from the south navigating issues of identity, power, and self acceptance is really awesome and interesting and would make a great story on its own! Unfortunately I think the grafting of those concepts onto Louis de Pointe du Lac of all people is….offensive to both parties. Like, it does justice to neither of them LOL.

The fact that they kind of just gave Jacob Anderson a carte blanche to do whatever he wanted with the character will always rub me the wrong way, because that means like FROM DAY ONE, Jacob was never trying to be Louis. He was trying to invent an entirely new character.

So this is all to say!!! If I were to judge his portrayal of the character compared to the book I would say he misses the mark completely lmfao. They’ve taken a character who was meant to be a vehicle for Anne Rice’s grief, and they made him into a character driven by anger, resentment, and violence. They interpreted Louis’ reticence as weakness, his existential dread as petty intellectualism.

But again. That thing is not my son. That’s not Louis, just like Count Von Count is not Dracula. Peace and love to Jacob Anderson, I know he’s pouring his heart and soul into the hollowed out husk of a character he was given, and that’s not his fault, but……….watching through seasons 1 and 2 myself, I don’t think there was a SINGLE second of screen time when I thought to myself “oh, that’s Louis.”
