âWho wants to start?â The therapist is sitting across from them in a large black chair, her hands folded in her lap and a soft, professional smile plastered on her face. She looks like Buck would imagine a therapist looking, wearing a white shirt, made out of some shiny, smooth fabric, a dark blue cardigan over it, so long it touches her knees, and gray slacks. Sheâs in her fifties with long dark, greying hair and glasses that sit primly on the bridge of her nose. âIâm Dr. Vyas, but you can call me Pramita,â sheâd said, as she shook both of their hands in the waiting room and beckoned them back. Her accent is clear and lilting and her voice low and elegant.
When neither of them open their mouths to speak, she raises her eyebrows, eyes flickering between them. âMaybe by telling me why youâre here?â She encourages.
Buck shifts uncomfortably on his end of the couch, looking down at the floor. He can see Eddie out of the corner of his eye, unmoving, his arms crossed over his chest. He waits for Eddie to say something first but when he doesnât Buck speaks up, impatient and wanting to get out of here, âCap sent us.âÂ
âWhy?â
We had a fight in the parking lot , Buck thinks, but he doesnât say that. He just shrugs and says, âHeâs overreacting. Weâre fine.â
Eddie scoffs lightly from next to him, making a sound for the first time since theyâd entered the room.Â

Will is a healer. A war medic. Death is basically where he WORKS IN. Anyone in the medical fields knows you will be experiencing death. Seeing the process of death.
The moment where people leave the living world. And experiencing the grief that follows after seeing someone die.
That is death.
Nico represents the beauty of death. The aftermath. Knowing the soul/ideas and ambitions of the person's life. The person that roamed this world. The voice of someone's life. The memories. What is left of that person.
Will represents the uglier side. The reality of it. The moment someone's string of life goes silent. The moment life leaves, all is left is the corpse. The shell of someone you used to know.
Hence why solangelo's view of the underworld is SO contrasting.
It's black and white. Because both represent different sides. SEEN different sides. They're so similar yet so different at the same time.
Solangelo is the start AND finish of DEATH. Will represents the START of it. Nico represents the END of it.
Two sides of the same coin.
The literal bridge between life and death.
One starting point and one end.
(And if you think about it. If you switcharoo them. Nico can also represent rebirth. And Will represents the end of life, because he's both of that. Maybe I'm stretching but fuck it. They're practically making a circle. The cycle of life and death.)

Lemme say that again: In 2013, it was expected that gay characters would be censored in childrenâs mass media.
Remember Korra? How she and Asami had to settle for ambiguous handholding rather than a kiss? That was fully a year after House of Hades came out. Nickelodeon said No Gays, the Children⢠canât handle that. Too risky. And people said man that stinks, but thatâs how these things go in 2014 America.
Gay marriage was literally still illegal in the vast majority of US states. As of October 8th, 2013 (House of Hades release date) Gay Marriage was only a thing in thirteen fucking states. California had only legalized it that year.
Gay people were still very much on the fringes of society. It was an acceptable political position on both sides of the aisle to be against the existence and equal rights of gay people.
Nico was legitimately a landmark character in queer representation. To my knowledge, there wasnât before an openly gay main character in a bestselling ya/middle grade fantasy fiction series. It simply was not a thing. They didnât exist. They werenât allowed to exist.
I remember people crying. Finally. It was a watershed moment. Kids all across the world finally got someone who represented them. It was such a big fucking deal. And it was controversial!!! Not for the reasons it is today, but because people thought gay kids having representation was inappropriate.
Is Nicoâs coming out a great scene? No, these days it leaves a lot to be desired. Itâs not perfect by any stretch of the imagination and Iâm sure Rick wishes he could change it. But the fact thatâs the case is a wonderful reflection of how far weâve come.
All of your gay heroes in childrenâs media have Nico Di Angelo to thank. It was important, and good. It deserves to be celebrated, even if weâve progressed past it since.
Honestly, y'all, I'm begging you. Take the time to think and learn for yourself. Even if it's just something casual like knitting or cooking. Exercise your brain. It's important.

If you use Duolingo, maybe don't anymore? The company is moving to be "AI-first" and is using AI to generate their content. Meaning, AI is now generating your language lessons.
They announced that they were going to use AI for this a while back but now they're annoucing that they're getting rid of the contractors reviewing the AI generated content. So, very soon Duolingo is just going to be AI generated slop that might not even be correct.
For alternatives, I'd recommend checking with your local library. For instance, mine offers Rosetta Stone for free if you have a library card.
I have found there is a way to nuke my duolingo account from orbit and god they don't make it easy, putting instructions here for anyone else who would like to. I am unsure if it's possible on mobile (already uninstalled the app on mobile) but I'm pissed off enough + suspect that they might pay slightly more attention to account deletion en masse rather than app uninstalling en masse. also I cannot see myself ever using this bs again, so...
step 1: log onto duolingo.com
step 2: there's a sidebar on the left. mouse over "more" and then "help."
step 3: scroll down the list of frequently asked questions to the "account management" category. click on "how do I delete my account an access my data" and then on the link to "duolingo data vault."
step 4: hit the big red "erase personal data" button. do not be swayed by the crying owl. he cares not for you, only for your data.
step 5: they should send you an email to whatever account is connected to your duolingo account. you can tell which email it is based on the spam you've gotten for the past several years reminding you to maintain your streak.
step 5.5: if you have a super duolingo subscription or got suckered into their free trial that does not cancel automatically, cancel that separately, they explicitly state that they will keep charging you even if you do not have an account which tracks for the company duolingo is now
step 6: find the email, click on the link listed after "delete my data link"
step 7: wait 7 days. you cannot get your data deleted any faster than this, but you can cancel it during this 7-day grace period.
step 8: apparently it will take "up to 23 more days" to delete your data entirely. pat yourself on the back. you're free now.
jokes aside, I'm still on step 7 myself, but I cannot see myself WANTING to undo my account deletion even if I could, so... for anyone who's confused about how to do this but wants to, hope this can help.

Why I think the writers are setting up Buck to be captain, rather than Hen:
Okay disclaimer: Iâm not saying I agree with the writing choices, I donât think itâs been shown super well, Iâm just think itâs what they are doing. But as a Buck girlie, Iâm excited for him.
I was all for Cap Hen post-E15 bc I was unable to think critically but now I really think it wouldnât be good for her. Weâve been shown time and time again that even tho sheâs AMAZING at it, itâs bad for her. Sheâs a workaholic who starts neglecting her relationships. We saw this in the med school plot when she was briefly Cap. Sheâs said repeatedly she would only do it if she HAD to. Karen this season brought up her never being home. Weâve seen that even when sheâs not Cap she struggles with work/life balance. During the Halloween ep itâs all they were fighting about and Hen practically promised never to do that to her and to prioritize her family.
I just donât want that for her and Karen. I think so people are way better at balancing things than she is, which is why even tho Buck doesnât think heâs ready, I think the show can show us that heâs been relying on Bobby unnecessarily. He was great during the bridge collapse.
He just needs to prove himself to himself. I think Hen and Chim would trust him now, Eddie would obviously be supportive, and Ravi would probably be a little brat but I love that for him.
If Bobby is gonna retire (bc heâs alive, I refuse to believe otherwise), then the show has always been setting Buck up as his natural successor. He would keep up family dinners. The team loves and trusts him. Bobby trusts him.
Itâs the perfect thing for his character development. He goes from this kid who doesnât know himself and who is so impulsive, and Bobby sees something in him. Something that Chimney really didnât see and Hen was unsure of. But now they know him, they trust him. Heâs proven himself time and time again.
I wish the writers would have been better in the last season at showing Buck is less impulsive, but itâs funny so ofc not. But when it matters to the plot, he knows his stuff. Heâs competent. I think with Bobby gone he will have to rely on his instincts and realize they are good and I think thatâs his personal plot coming upâother than Buddie ofc
I would obviously LOVE Hen to be cap, but she would kill it and a black female Cap is everything to me, but I donât think thatâs what they are doing.
I feel like this last season has just been reminding us why Hen canât be. And we know Chim canât be. And Buck is over Eddie and Ravi in seniority. Raviâs def not ready. Eddieâs has other stuff going on. So I think Buck is the only option.
Plus i adds really good angst to Buddie bc even if they know their feelings, they will have another obstacle to overcome. Or a reason for them to keep quiet. And I eat up an slow burn so I love that.
