They wear suits, but they don't even know basic etiquette.
Based on @cowardsexual 's post of a very sleepy phm science team and Grace's teacher instincts
Periodic reminder that you are not immune to reactionary radicalization through fandom.
We all know the ājokesā about how old bronies either came out as queer or became fascists - except theyāre not really jokes, and a lot of the queer ones admit to having been in the pipeline before they came out (some in a way that implies they never totally got out of said pipeline and donāt understand the gravity of it),
GamerGate was an entire right-wing reactionary movement that was - and this is not hyperbole - partially responsible for turning fascism into a ālegitimateā position by the American Overton window, composed entirely of people who feared losing their fan spaces,
Weāve had terfs right here on tumblr dot com BRAGGING about how useful fandom is as a recruiting space,
TJLC was a big pipeline for acephobia on this hellsite in particular, when people argued that headcanoning Sherlock as ace was inherently homophobic because it was denying a TOTALLY GONNA BE CANON (while the creators were promising that it wasnāt going to be canon) gay pairing, and puritanical, and just HAVING that headcanon was saying that people COULDNāT ship Johnlock, all in the interest of a āfakeā sexuality and āpretending to be oppressedā and oh whoops there you went,
We see people who all but center their fandom activity and identities around figuring out which people in predominantly queer fandom spaces are SECRETLY PEDOPHILES AND GROOMERS, acting consciously or otherwise under the assumption that predominantly queer fandom spaces are just massively infested with them in a way that other spaces are not for SOME reason, who twist the definition of āpedophiliaā in these spaces until it covers shipping a 17-year old fictional character with an 18-year old fictional character, or a 30-year old with a 45-year old, or including an autistic character in a ship, and drawing two 17-year old characters kissing constitutes āchild pornā, and who unironically say we should bring back the Hays Code and Censorship Is Good Actually And Our Problem Is We Donāt Do It Enough and this often becomes a pipeline to āsex ed is child abuse; people shouldnāt even know what sex is until they turn 18; you need my consent to wear certain outfits in public if I see them as sexually charged, and Pride SHOULD be an assimilationist sideshow for our corporate overlords family-friendly party with no sadness or anger or ESPECIALLY acknowledgement of sex allowedā,
Weāve seen otherwise progressive people defend literal hate symbols in fanart when pushback against the above brand of reactionaries gets corrupted into zero-nuance āitās us vs. them so anything they donāt like is Goodā,
Even outside of those examples some of the most vicious, unapologetic, blatant queerphobic abuse Iāve seen in recent years hasnāt come from right-wingers but from LGBT+ people, dressing their deep, violent, seething hatred for queer people who arenāt exactly like them in a thin veneer of progressive language, who have become so convinced that theyāre the main character of the fucking universe that they think writing or enjoying a queer story that doesnāt resonate with them is more queerphobic than sending a queer person who writes or enjoys such a story countless rape and death threats and denying their identity,
Weāve seen these examples again and again and again, and we keep seeing it again and again and again, so I am once again on my knees BEGGING people to recognize that this is not Something That Happens To Other, BAD People, or Something That Happens To People In BAD Fandoms, or Something That Happens To People On The OTHER Side Of Perennial Drama; this is something that CAN happen to you.
These things are the result of the fact that fandom is, by nature, a place of heightened emotion and if you donāt know what to look out for that is very exploitable; you need to know the methods people use to do this, simply Being In The Right Fandoms or Liking The Right Ships is not enough.
So, if you see someone trying to convince you that you have the ONLY valid approach to any specific character, or ship, or show, or whatever, that your ship is activism and your fanfics are praxis, and liking something else or liking the same thing differently is Only For Bad People, that is the single biggest red flag that YOU NEED TO RUN, THEYāRE TRYING TO SELL YOU SOMETHING THAT YOU DO NOT WANT
Seeing people reblog this with mile-long DNI pages that talk about about āirredeemable mediaā and āyouāre a pedophile if you like XYZ mainstream piece of media and I hate youā and āif you like these things that are bad irl happening in fiction in any context thatās apologism for them in reality and you should be ashamedā and āif youāre okay with consenting adults having weird sex and talking about weird sex with other consenting adults and putting weird sex in appropriately tagged fanfics that means you support rape and pedophilia and bestiality and incest and youāre evilā and āterfs and exclusionists and gatekeepers gtfo BUT combination labels arenāt valid and trans men arenāt really oppressed beyond collateral damage and fuck off if you think they are lolā and doing the biggest facepalm of my life like
š THIS š IS š ABOUT š YOU š
š THIS š IS š ABOUT š YOU š
š THIS š IS š ABOUT š YOU š
š THIS š IS š ABOUT š YOU š
š THIS š IS š ABOUT š YOU š
š THIS š IS š ABOUT š YOU š
š THIS š IS š ABOUT š YOU š
So I sincerely hope, if youāre one of those people reblogging this, youāre taking it as a call to seriously reflect on those beliefs and how you came to hold them, and not just sitting there smugly thinking that when I said āYOU are not immune to thisā I meant āYOUR FOLLOWERS may not be immune to this, but YOU are, oh great and glorious Knower of Pure from Irredeemable, holder of the True Correct Media Opinionsā
Letās simplify it a bit: No one is immune to doing evil, period. Always reflect on what you are doing and saying and why. Becoming complacent, thinking that youāre a āgood personā and thus can only do āgood thingsā is the fast-lane to the worst kind of evil: that which tries to justify itself as good.
The road to hell is paved with good intentions, indeed.
genuinely one of the worst things fandom has normalized lately is treating fanfiction like content to be consumed and reviewed rather than something another human being is actively making.
people will sit on tiktok and make entire ranking videos of fics. they'll talk about how they want slow burns with immaculate characterization, intricate political plots, and emotional payoffs that span 600k words across five years of updates. they'll talk about wanting stories that completely take over their lives.
and then those same people won't touch an ongoing fic.
they won't leave comments. they won't bookmark. they won't tell their friends. they won't engage until the work is already finished and has been vetted by fifty other readers.
do people realize what they're asking for when they demand a 600k slow burn? that's half a decade of somebody's free time. that's thousands of hours spent writing after work, after school, after exams, after family emergencies, after losing motivation and finding it again.
those legendary fics everyone loves to recommend didn't appear fully formed out of nowhere. they survived because people supported them while they were being written.
everybody wants the next fandom-defining epic. nobody wants to be the person encouraging chapter 17 of 143.
and then people wonder why fewer longfics get finished.
because writers can feel when they're performing for an audience that only shows up at the finish line.

forget everything anyone has ever told you on the matter the truest marker of adulthood is starting to hear the siren call of high quality kitchenware
to be clear you SHOULD buy that cast iron pan and you SHOULD buy that knife set and you SHOULD buy that fancy rice cooker and you SHOULD buy that novelty mug. high quality kitchenware is always worth it youāre literally gonna be using that almost every day
I would suggest investing in a toaster oven. That is literally my favorite kitchen appliance. It's great for cooking small things that feel a little ridiculous in a full oven, and it reheats a lot of leftovers so much better than a microwave. 10/10 for leftover pizza without a soggy bottom.
So Iām moving into a new apartment, and I was told that the room had been damaged, but nothing could have prepared me for the fact that someone had carved Li Shangās head out of the bathroom door and written āWe must defeat the Huns!ā on it.
its been 6 months and im still not over this. easily best and most hilarious play in baseball history
for those who dont really understand:
-the first baseman had no reason to chase BaƩz, if he just stepped on the bag he was automatically out
-theres two outs, so if hes out, the inning is over. even if the runner on second base gets home, the run doesnt count. its not until hes safe at first that the run scores
-theres no specific rule in baseball about running backwards from first, just that you ācannot retreat to home baseā meaning so long as if you dont touch the plate, its fine
-BaƩz ran backwards to kill enough to get the run to score, and then stole and extra base on the base on the bad throw
-HE TOOK THE TIME TO UMPIRE HIS OWN PLAY AND CALL SAFE
what a fucking sport yall

Javier BaĆ©zās nickname according to those announcers is El Mago which is spanish for The Wizard
Well earned
love how the explanations do not help at all
Let me see if I can break this down a little more.
Javier BĆ”ez (the batter, a Chicago Cub, wearing blue) has just hit the ball. His job is now to run around the bases - 1st, 2nd, 3rd, back to where he started (āhomeā), at which point he will have scored a point. In practice, he will probably stop partway, wait for the next batter to get a hit, and try to make it home from there.
The Pittsburgh Pirates (in white) are fielding. Their job is to stop the Cubs from scoring by getting them out, by various combinations of catching the ball and tagging people or bases with it.
The scoreboard (top left) shows that one Cub has already made it to second base, so he will resume running now that Javy has a hit. It also shows that two Cubs are out. If a third Cub gets out, their turn to bat will be over, it will be the Piratesā turn to bat, and the Cubs canāt score anymore (for now, but thatās not relevant).
The Pirate at first base (the first baseman) has the ball. All he needs to do is step on first base while holding it before Javy gets there, and Javy is out. This is probably the number one most common thing a first baseman has to do.
He does not do it.
For some reason he starts chasing Javy, presumably trying to tag him with the ball directly. This is a perfectly legitimate way of getting him out, but also completely unnecessary.
This has never happened to Javy before. Unsure what else to do, he just kind of⦠jogs backwards away from him.
Meanwhile, the Cub who was at second base (Contreras) has made it all the way back to home. Because the Piratesā first baseman has helpfully walked the ball back home, he can easily toss it to the Pirate at home (the catcher) who will tag Contreras out.
The catcher doesnāt tag him in time.
The umpire signals that Contreras is safe (not out).
Javy also signals that Contreras is safe, just for fun. Heās never been nearby when a teammate makes it home before, and heās enjoying himself.
Notice that the score has not changed, even though Contreras made it home. Thatās because Javy is still technically running to first base. If he gets out before he reaches it, the Cubsā turn to bat is over, and nothing else thatās happened since he hit the ball matters.
Javy remembers this, and heads back to first base. The catcher throws the ball to another Pirates fielder, who is frantically running to do the first basemanās job.
He doesnāt catch it.
Javy is safe at first. Contreras scores (although the scoreboard wonāt change for a second).
Javy notices how far away that ball landed, and decides he can make it to second base before anyone picks it up and tags him out.
An offscreen Pirate throws the ball to second base, where another Pirate is ready and waiting to catch it, tag Javy out, and end the Cubsā turn to bat.
He doesnāt catch it.
Javy is safe at second. The video doesnāt show it, but he will go on to score as well.
This should have been a very easy out for the Pirates, but through two dropped catches and one truly bizarre decision from the first baseman, they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory and turned it into two points for the Cubs.
The Cubs won this game by two points.
