here's a fun picrew i found lol tag game time?
(no what i didnt go searching for one specifically with braces because i have those for a month and while theyre painful the aesthetic is just so gender affirming AF i cant explain it)
Since many of you enjoyed my work on Danaë, I decided to write a few more ballads about Perseus (and I'm especially delighted with @katerinaaqu and his very detailed analysis of my first big poem). A characteristic of medieval Castilian "romanceros" is that they "enter suddenly and exit quickly," generally beginning in medias res and ending before the climax or summarizing it rapidly in a series of verses. It's a very interesting narrative structure, which allows for telling stories with a different rhythm.
The Sun fled in terror.
The stars did not dare
to shine. Gloom rules.
Night scorns the Day
where the world finds its end
and its edges meet.
Perseus now faced
the dark cave's threshold.
His hair starts to bristle;
his eyes start to hide;
his feet rooted to earth;
his arms heavy, falling
stripped of strength, while
his soul begs to flee.
Around him, mourning, howl
silent, screaming statues
with faces dead of Horror—
Horror, not living stone!
Athena knew the trance
that seized his mind.
Down from the high sphere
with her divine word,
she pressed lips to his ear;
her voice swayed, and said:
"What holds you, little brother?
What stops you, beloved hero,
now, when to the very edge
of the possible you have come?
Yours is the helm that shadows
the grim face of Thanatos.
Yours, my arm and shield
that overthrew vile Ares.
Yours, the adamantine sword
and Hermes' golden sandals.
When Medusa stalks,
crawling through your gaze,
godlike your reflection:
your virtue shines by my side."
These words flew
from her friendly eyes.
And, commanding his body,
slowly, the hero answered:
"I am not stone, lady,
nor is my soul, goddess,
not to weep for ashes
after the fire.
Not Atropos or her shears,
nor the Moira is my foe.
It is the first violence,
the ill death of Injustice:
Unwed brides, now widows,
Children denied old age,
Children dead before parents,
Death swifter than life!"
When his words fled
from his narrowing sight,
the goddess sets her voice
in his blood, which ran
through fists, chest, and face,
tears down his cheeks:
"Tears, let tears sing,
escaping from your eyes.
The soul will grow light,
and to my gentle voice,
it will open, prayerful,
humble to wise counsel:
Swift Death did not triumph,
nor dictated its will.
Justice did not vanish,
it has not forsaken you.
For gentle winds always breed
tempest, and the wild sea
storms, and man is always
victim to the tormentor.
The helpless lamb flees
from the sharp-clawed lion,
who devours more corpses
and sows the desert field.
But God sows in men
Courage in chest and arms
to give strength to Justice
and halt Pride in its tracks.
Let my word be a sentence
as lightning signs the sky.
Tears, let tears fall silent.
For Terror has drawn near."
At this, there breaks in
an obsidian melody,
with siren promises
amid hisses of a viper:
"Step closer, traveler.
Bring your gaze close. And look.
For in my vision loom
all men and their life's end."
He waited for no more words.
His soul no longer shrank back.
Gaze shining, he advances
toward the cursed darkness.
His right hand gripped the blade.
His head the helm concealed.
His left arm held the shield.
His foot wore wings of breeze.
He bears Courage in his chest
and Wisdom on his shoulder.
With fury of heaven and earth
goddess and hero answered:
"Look, I am all you refused:
Death that does not petrify.
Look, Gorgon, upon Fate!:
Death with total Justice."
It was very difficult to be satisfied with the English translation because I tried to take advantage of the Spanish in the composition of this poem, making use of its roots and variations. The more poems I compose, the more I realize how fascinating the versatility of Spanish is. A single idea or thought can be expressed in dozens of different words; Spanish is extremely rich in synonyms and long syllables that captivate you the more you practice it in poetry. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
a brillar. Penumbra impera.
Noche que desprecia el Día
donde halla el mundo su término
y sus extremos se unían,
Perseo ya se encaraba
a umbral de cueva sombría.
Vanse a encrespar sus cabellos;
vanse a esconder sus pupilas;
sus pies a tierra enraizados;
sus brazos pesan, caían
pobres de fuerzas, al tiempo
que el alma ruega a la huida.
Al redor, en luto, aúllan
en silencio, estatuas gritan
con sus rostros, de Horror muertos—
¡Horror, que no piedra viva!—.
Supo Atenea del trance
que a su mente acometía.
Baja desde la alta esfera
con su palabra divina,
Sus labios durmió en su oído;
su voz meció, y le decía:
"¿Qué te detiene, hermanito?
¿Qué te paró, mi héroe amado
ahora, que hasta los linderos
de lo posible has llegado?
Tuyo es el yelmo que ensombra
la hórrida faz de Tanatos.
Tuyo mi brazo y escudo
que a Ares vil ha derrocado.
Tuya adamantina espada
y el talar, de Hermes, dorado.
Cuando aceche la Medusa,
por tu mirada reptando,
de dios será tu reflejo:
tu virtud brilla a mi lado."
Estas palabras volaron
de sus pupilas amigas.
Y, ordenándole a su cuerpo,
lento, el héroe, respondía:
"No soy de piedra, señora,
no lo es mi alma, diosa mía,
para, después del incendio,
no llorar por las cenizas.
No es Átropo o su tijera,
no es la Moira mi enemiga.
Lo es la primera violencia,
lo es mal morir de Injusticia:
Novias sin bodas ya viudas
Niños sin vejez cumplida
Hijos muertos más que padres
¡Muerte veloz más que vida!"
Cuando huyeron sus palabras
de su entrecerrada vista,
la diosa su voz dispone
en su sangre, que corría
por sus puños, pecho y rostro,
lágrimas por sus mejillas:
"Lágrimas, lágrimas canten,
de tus ojos escapando.
Quedará ligera el alma
y a mi voz, de suave grado,
se abrirá, más rogativa,
humilde a consejo sano:
No triunfó veloz la Muerte,
no ha su voluntad dictado.
No se ausentó la Justicia,
no te habrá desamparado.
Porque siempre paren auras
tempestad, y el ponto bravo
la tormenta, y siempre el hombre
víctima es del victimario.
Huye el cordero indefenso
del león de agudo brazo,
que más cadáver devora
y siembra en desierto campo.
Mas siembra Dios en los hombres
el Valor en pecho y brazos
para dar mano a Justicia
y a la Soberbia dé un alto.
Sea mi palabra sentencia
como al cielo firma el rayo.
Lágrimas, lágrimas, callen.
Que el Terror se ha aproximado."
En mirando esto, interrumpe
obsidiana melodía,
con promesas de sirena
entre siseos de víbora:
"Tu paso acerca, viajero.
Tu vista acércala. Y mira.
Que en mi visión se vislumbran
todos y el fin de sus vidas"
Ya no aguardó sus palabras.
Ya su alma no le rehuía.
Brillando su vista, avanza
hacia oscuridad maldita.
Su diestra el sable empuñaba.
Su testa el yelmo escondía.
Su izquierda escudo embrazaba.
Su pie calzó alas de brisa.
Porta el Valor en su pecho
y en su hombro Sabiduría.
Con furias de cielo y tierra
diosa y héroe respondían:
"Mira, soy cuanto has rehusado:
THE SONS SHORT COMIC (Please read Disclaimer and Warning first)
Warning: typical war crime Greek Mythology, yeet the baby, violence, torture, verbal and physical abuses (implied and mild portrayals), Neoptolemus as his own warning. Please be cautious if you are triggered by these.
Disclaimers: Portrayals dont equal endorsement, War crime is evil (duh)
I am finally done with this and very excited about this comic. This is the first time I’ve done something totally out of my comfort zone and I hope I did it somewhat justice!
The notorious scene between Neoptolemus and Astyanax, I try to depict the true horror that came to pass without using gore while still need to be as uncomfortable as possible.
I am very sorry for Andromache fans and Astyanax fans, I also would like to apologize Neoptolemus fans XD
Tapping on the pages is better than scrolling since I do traditional comic either way.

I remain upright, even if I see myself humiliated,
even in my own eyes.
It is not to my liking to hear
the black asp of the devil and his sin
he will not win, he knows it,
however much he aspires with shame to wound me
in body and high soul.
It is not my habit to surrender
to pain, rather it is my spirit to brandish myself
opposed to impious strife,
opposed to seeing my neighbor as a burden
or an empty shadow;
My open hand extends
to Him my Faith, which guards me like a shield.
And yet... I pray
to halt the cruel state
I face, for I stumble
though I am well-versed in it.
And I long for the call of rest.
Meditating on my actions,
I like to advance slowly from my threshold,
banishing the noise,
for my kingdom and palace is
Silence and its topaz court:
Freedom and its joys,
Verses, Stories of harmony,
of wise interpreters.
Oh! I would welcome Time...
And listen to its joyful silence!
It's been a couple of weeks too much... just TOO MUCH, nothing but work and work and work and work AND WORK AND WORK!!!!!!!@$#@#@?#!?@#;!@?#.............. (IronSPDR.exe has stopped working)
Um... sorry about that. There have been some administrative changes, I've had a backlog of patients at my office, and I've had to take half a million reports home. I've been more grumpy than usual, and I'm recovering from a mini gastroenteritis outbreak (at least it was two days off, if being bedridden counts as a day off 😑).
Anyway, at least since Saturday I've been able to polish a little lyrical piece. I hope you like it. In Castilian metrics, this is a stanza called a "Lira" and is one of the most elegant, used especially by Fray Luis de León during the Spanish Golden Age. It is composed of heptasyllabic and hendecasyllabic lines with consonant rhymes 7A 11B 7A 7B 11B (my condolences to English speakers; it's such a delicate type of stanza that it even pained me to translate it into free verse 😭 but I couldn't think of how to adapt it to English metrics. If anyone has suggestions, please share them; I always love exploring new types of meters.)

Character designs of Antilochus and Achilles belong to @katerinaaqu
I was under the impression Antilochus wore leopard pattern clothes.
Don't mind Achilles doing his makeover for the celebration. You can't rush to perfection after all.
Look, Antilochus wants to give you some honey cakes. Isn't he so sweet?
This is my little gift to you, because I know how much you love Antilochus and Achilles.
Congratulations on getting 900 followers! 100 more, and you get to be called the face that launched 1,000 ships! Three cheers to Catherine Katerina the Great! Hip Hip Hooray!!!
