I will be spending six months working and living in Playa Samara and surrounding rural beach communities in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. I will be working as an unpaid intern with a grassroots nonprofit called Asociacion Crear. Asociacion Crear is an innovative organization that provides local children and teens with opportunities for personal, social, academic, and career growth. While families work to provide income, children often spend several hours unsupervised. Asociacion Crear has used this time after school to create a venue in which children and young people can explore their educational interests through creative art-education initiatives, while simultaneously building on lifelong skills. I will be working as an After School Lead Instructor. I will be creating curriculum for both the art and English language courses provided to elementary and middle school students.

Costa Rica is a popular tourist destination. While this is good for visitors and vacationers, this inflation in housing drives up the cost of living in what’s called the ‘high season.’ This has caused the amount of money I need to raise to support my work in Costa Rica to nearly DOUBLE! ! Support holistic education for Costa Rican youth with a one time donation or a monthly donation! Anything from $5 to $100 helps! OR REBLOG THIS AS FAR AS THE EYE CAN SEE

tbh...I don’t think I really ever emotionally processed how truly fucking TRAUMATIC China was...for a lot of different reasons...I’d hate to admit that I’m doing this stint to prove something to myself. But I may just end up having to heal alot of my past hurts and disappointments if I want to be at all effective this time around. I don’t want to end up the same way I was in China. Holed up in my apartment. Afraid to be too seen...afraid to stick out. because sticking out sometimes turned out to be dangerous, disgusted with the other expats and feeling alienated by the locals....
