Most leftists arenât getting radicalized by professors in college - they are radicalized by their environments and themselves, in the streets, their workplaces, and anywhere oppression and struggle is a daily occurrence.
This might be a long one. Anyway I live on Narragansett land which is very close to Mashpee land (and I actually did live on the Cape for some time). Do you know of any way that I/we can help in a more actionable way? I know you dont have an encyclopedic knowledge of everything but I'd prefer info from a source on the ground. I will light and feed the fire but as a white woman I think my privelage could be best utilized elsewhere
Donating directly to the Tribe, educating non Natives about what's happening and recognizing it as a modern form of colonialism, getting in touch with other experts who may be able to help or bring light to the situation. Writing to local government leaders and representatives to inform them and urge them to #Standwithmashpee. Uplifting voices from the Tribe and others that recognize their plight.

MâBaku, leader of the Jabari tribe, inventor of big dick energy
for the record, ânot feeling anythingâ is a valid and not unusual response to trauma or grief
so if you feel empty and devoid of feeling, itâs not because youâre a cold and uncaring person.
Sometimes, not feeling anything is the only way you can cope.
Be prepared for a delayed reaction, too. Itâs very common to be totally calm during a crisis, and then days or weeks (or years) later suddenly get hit with a tidal wave of âHOLY SHIT THAT HAPPENED.â
Sometimes your mind waits until it feels safe to start processing things emotionally. Itâs a powerful survival strategy, but it can really blindside you, because just as you start to feel like things are okay, youâre overwhelmed by the realization of how not-okay things were before.
This may not happen, and thatâs okay too. But itâs something to watch out for when your initial reaction is numbness.

âStevie Nicks was the first woman I ever heard say she had chosen not to have children because she cared more about her career. The first that ever warned me men might not like it if there are things more important to me than they are. The first that ever said that that was fine: sometimes, you have to leave them behind. Wherever she goes, she surrounds herself with girls. âI canât imagine you in a bathing suit,â someone says in an interview for Rolling Stone, when Stevie says she likes to play in the pool in her backyard. âYeah, well, you never will,â Stevie says. âThere is never - ever - a man in the backyard. If there is, he is banished to the front of the house.â Men donât get to look at Stevie Nicks unless Stevie Nicks wants men to look at Stevie Nicks. In her songs, even when sheâs talking about how she has to change, she proclaims her power, her ability, her worth. She is a queen, she is a witch, she is a dragon, she is in control. She isnât polite. Sheâs competitive. Sheâs bossy. She claimed all the things the men around her claimed â she spent as much money as they spent, had as much sex as they had, was as reckless as they were, stood at the front of the same stage â and never questioned that that was her right. The world tells us women are there for men, but despite all the boyfriends and the jokes about how sheâs so easy and the sex-symbol status, she isnât there for men at all. She does it without ever giving in to the men that dismiss her. Sheâs emotional. Sheâs dramatic. She raises her voice as much as she can. She thinks sheâs pretty, she thinks sheâs a star, and when her fans crowd up to the edge of the stage, crazy, she welcomes them, with open arms. She revels in it. Sheâs too much of a girl for you? She revels in it.â

rocky horror is the worst and is also transmisogynistic can we please finally get over this shit movie
ok but like the writer is transgender nonbinary and the language used in the play was the preferred language by trans people of that time can we not deny parts of our history because weâve evolved since then thanks
So fucking much this.
PS, youth of today: youâll be saying the same damn thing about art from this time before too long, for good or for ill. Terminology will, in fact, change. Definitions will, in fact, shift. It always does, they always do.Â
PPS, it is pretty much impossible to overstate how life-alteringly important this movie was to kids who didnât conform to standard expectations of gender and sexuality, back in the day. Especially when back in the day was the mid-to-late 1980s, when the only queers you saw on TV were neutered AIDS tragedies, Bowie was playing straight, and even Elton John was married to a woman, and midnight showing of RHPS were pretty much the only place that felt like home. It was mental life raft for a lot of people.
I was one of them.
#the queer youth of today has forgotten all its history and is spitting on its ancestors and i hate it (via @gaythreatsâ)
