I want to reiterate I have no interest in having or evoking performative sympathy for this guy. Simply put I think a lot of people are maybe too quick to relish in cruelty when it's an "acceptable" target. I grew up caught in a loop of internet spectacle because of people who "deserved" it and it sucked and only made me worse as a person. Learn to paint or cook or sew or watch birds anything besides getting on a path that leads you to obsessively checking on someone that's been successfully othered for the sake of your own ego or amusement. It's much healthier than this!

This is a problem the writers of the Simpsons have had to deal with - the Simpsons are late 80s, early 90s poor. They have two clunker cars, they live in a house that's old-fashioned and has crappy furniture because they can't afford to redecorate. Their TV is ancient. Their neighbors have visibly better stuff than they do, and when they shop they have to buy the bargain brands.

But their lifestyle now seems wildly out of reach to most modern kids! They have two cars! A big three bedroom house! Only one of the parents has to work! They have 3 whole children who they can afford to feed and clothe on a single income! It's an impossible dream life for most people today.

I was just scrolling the Nex Benedict tag when I stumbled upon a porn bot. In a tag that really means a lot to a very vulnerable community. Shamelessly. Tagged with not just their name, but a variety of LGBTQ+ tags as well.

Tumblr, we don't want you to remove trans folks for showing the progress of thier bodies.

Tumblr, we don't want you to ban accounts for speaking up about fair treatment.

Tumblr, we don't want you to flag posts on topics that are important to us.

What we want, Tumblr, nay, what we need is for you to stop this from happening. This right here triggers a lot of people and seems very disrespectful to the situation at hand. We need you to start looking into the accounts that unhealthily fetishize our sexualities. We need you to ban the blogs that target trans people just to body shame them. We need you to remove the (bot) posts that invade LGBTQ safe spaces because those tags are trending. We need you to stop destroying the community, and start protecting it.
