My Unabridged Path

If I could carve my innards to fit the mold of a love unyielding,

I fear I would be no more than a blade fit for your wielding.

If dust was all I once was, before this eternal twilight I’ve endured,

Then may I be refined to mere atoms if it would mean your hollowness is cured.

You perch on my bedside, as that shadowy thing ravages me,

Powerless, despite your station, as you cry for what should not be;

And that thing dares call itself “God,” when you are my sole divinity.

I find He has also burrowed within you, an abyss we share in perpetuity.

So what must I do, to empower you?

If you need a bridge for crossing that dark,

I would fuse mine bones to be stepping stones,

So you need only find the courage to embark.

Is it a song that you need? To seal wounds that still bleed?

Then make my racket akin to a lark,

So I may sing stitches to close the scars God did impose.

We need not fear that dead thing anymore.

It could steal all my words— ones written, thought, or spoken;

Let that void swallow any syllable more that I could utter—

If only to know that the thread of your fate spins on unbroken.

Its mocking visage will finally crack, and die, with nary a sputter.
