Let’s consider an AU set in a zombie apocalypse where the Hale fire never happened so Beacon Hills becomes this mecca of safety, an urban legend of a place free from infection. The Hales can tell if someone is infected and can kill them before they die and reanimate. That isn’t to say that there were never zombies in BH, just that they never managed to gain a foothold before the werewolves eradicated the problem.
But this story doesn’t take place in the time of peace after those initial few days of terror. This takes place just as the world starts to panic and realize that the zombie apocalypse is happening. Stiles and Scott left for school in the fall. They didn’t go far, just into the city. It’s only an hour drive away and one or both of them usually visit over the weekend. They’re just returning from BH, Stiles using the gas card his dad slipped him to fill up the jeep, when they notice something is off. The police are at the McDonalds across the street and there’s more than one ambulance outside. Stiles can see someone being treated for what looks like a bite, and he shivers to himself before going inside to pay. He buys an overly expensive 24 pack of water just in case, because Stiles is the guy who considers zombies first and bath salts overdose second.
