Darcy looking out windows all the time is so real. When the level of adoration and awkwardness in his gaze gets too intense he has to disperse it outside for safety reasons.
âif i loved you less, i might be able to talk about it more.â

what if vampires are like mosquitoes and only the ladies drink blood
Pretty sure that would mean the fellas drink tree sap or something. Imagine running from a vampire thru the woods and passing her husband whoâs biting a tree real hard
Maple syrup vampire husband
Encounter: Maple syrup vampire husband drinking sap in the woods, also trying to lure you to his literally bloodthirsty wife.
The wife has the classic Villain Of The Night aesthetic, all black, flowing cape, everything, and her husband is wearing red flannel, overalls, a beard, and is welding a log-splitting axe
This person gets it! Classic vampire lady and her lumberjack husband!
I regret nothing

lovely story from a friend today.
Look, this post has been wildly more popular than I thought it deserved, apparently at least in part because "don't burden others; be independent" is far more ingrained in people than I realized. So here's the thing: society works when people help each other. Helping others gives people a chance to know each other, and gives them an investment in the people they help. Helping creates bonds. People enjoy helping, and you are doing a good by letting them help you if they so wish.
Offer help; accept help. You will be a part of creating a helping culture. Which, incidentally, weakens capitalism and the fractionation between people that benefits those who would use us.

Why do you think Jane Bennet has no accomplishments? It's wild that her less-smart sister, Mary, managed better than she did.
I personally headcanon that Jane has no accomplishments because it took her several years to teach Lydia how to read, but I think there are a few possibilities:
Mrs. Bennet convinced a younger Jane that she could skate through on looks alone, now it's kind of too late
While masters were provided when asked, Jane was too nervous to ask so it wasn't until Elizabeth requested it that a piano teacher was brought in
Jane helped with her sisters and didn't have time to focus on her own education (okay I wrote that twice but I'm kind of convinced)
The Bennet education "system" is very laissez-faire, so very uneven learning would be expected in my opinion. I don't think Jane would have been lazy, but it does seem like she's acquired zero accomplishments and I think a prudent parent would have encouraged her to learn more.
I think itâs mostly 1, that is definitely the message Mary was taught and I doubt the other girls missed it.
âMary, who having, in consequence of being the only plain one in the family, worked hard for knowledge and accomplishments, was always impatient for display.â
Plus Mary, unlike Jane, would have the bonus of things already having been arranged for Elizabethâs lessons. I think itâs likely Elizabeth just enjoys music more than Jane does, and that is why she was the one who took the initiative to learn.
To be fair, I donât think Jane had no accomplishments though:
âTo Jane herself,â she exclaimed, âthere could be no possibility of objection,âall loveliness and goodness as she is! Her understanding excellent, her mind improved, and her manners captivating.â
Darcy even said that that was the most important accomplishment in his snobby list ;)
Sometimes you need to read something twice to get it. You might need to watch a movie three times to understand it. You might have to have that album on repeat for a week until the lyrics make any sense. You're allowed to engage with it and can keep engaging with it until it means something to you. People will see a painting at a museum and laugh about not getting what the big deal is but like you can come back, you can see it at another time, and maybe that next time it'll be different for you. I'm of the belief the "media literacy crisis" would solve itself if more people just sat down and did it again. Watched, read, played, listened, etc like I don't think people are getting more ignorant necessarily I just think we're not glorifying personally replaying things nearly as much as we should be.

For some reason now I'm thinking about a You've Got Mail type pride and prejudice au where Lizzie has a pen pal or internet friend that she doesn't know is Darcy, and he finds out her True Feelings about him when she tells him very furiously about this absolute prick she knows and he's like. Oh. Oh shit. Oh fuck that's me oh shit oh no. I fucked up.
Bonus points if he knows itâs her and he thinks sheâs ranting about Wickham until he Realizes
Lizzie: he's SUCH a dick he's the WORST
Darcy, chin in hands, ready for another round of Bitch About Wickham: what'd he do this time
Lizzie: he SPLIT UP my sister and her boyfriend apparently!!! Like, can you fucking believe the nerve?????
Darcy, Realizing: hold up
@awaitingyourowl
Realistically the in character choice for Darcy is for him to be like "well the honorable thing is to tell her the truth" and the betrayal the embarrassment the combination betrayal and embarrassment of finding out that you've been bitching about someone TO THEIR FACE without realizing it. But Darcy is taking everything she's said DEADLY serious and making changes, except for Lizzie she now has to reconcile someone she disliked with someone who's a trusted friend, and it's like... On the one hand he has this much deeper understanding of the wrong he did, but on the other she has this completely different perspective on him as a person and is much more willing to accept that he was acting out of love for his friend. So she's already forgiving him and he's like "no your criticisms are valid and I'm taking them seriously."
Oooh, I like this! What if he, as her pen pal, also tells her about the same situations, like how his best friend always gets his heart broken by women who arenât really interested, so heâs looking out for him, and how this awful guy tried to seduce his sister, etc. And then Lizzy, who doesnât know who he is, is like: âYouâre totally right; I wouldâve done the sameâ and âOmg, how awful!â, and she thinks how cute it is that this guy is looking out for his friends and family.
And when she later learns that her pen pal is Darcy she wants to hate him, but she also knows his story and how many of his actions actually sounded sensible from that perspective. That could be a good way to also emphasise her faults in judging him prematurely.
Prev I think maybe it started out 100% anon and then they were just gradually getting into a position where he's like 75% sure that's Elizabeth, but then how incredibly awkward would it be to go like "hey I think you might be Eyes Girl [because let's be real if he had someone he was talking to who didn't know who he or Elizabeth were they would know details about her she hadn't noticed in herself] because (lists number of siblings, and Mrs Bennet quotes, and details of how she phrases things, &c), are you Elizabeth Bennet?" and then be Wrong? Like, here's your internet bestie and you're saying "hey, I think it's possible that I'm actively romantically in love with you" and the only thing that's going to tip it either way is stuff that happened offline.
Imagine spending months hearing your best online friend talk longingly about this girl's eyes, and the way she laughs, and how she treats her siblings, and just loving detail of everything about her. And then you hear that that might be the way someone you know irl is looking at YOU. And then they actually say the names and it's not and you've never met either of these people in your life. How do you go back to being platonic and normal and listening to your friend gush about his crush after that?
And obviously that's not actually going to happen, because it IS Elizabeth, but I can easily imagine her mentioning having a lot of sisters but not an exact number (or even yes an exact number, it's not like the Bennets have a monopoly on "having five daughters"), and telling him about things people have said that sound like things the people he's met Would say, but he wasn't actually there for them so he doesn't really know, and maybe she talks about what happened with Charlotte and Colins but that kind of relationship really isn't RARE... Like, it's enough that he's picturing certain people when she tells him about things people she knows did, but it's not until she gets really specific about the Jane and Bingley situation that he's absolutely 100% sure that it's her. (And also that clarifying that absolutely will torpedo their relationship, but now it's REALLY dishonest and awful if he doesn't)
