Does this summer heat make you feel like a greater naked bat (Cheiromeles torquatus)? Glands in its neck produce unpleasant-smelling, oily secretions—the scent of which has been compared to “stale socks drenched in engine oil.” Also known as the naked bulldog bat, this mostly hairless mammal can be found in parts of Southeast Asia, including Sumatra, Java, Borneo, and the Philippines. It typically lives in large groups, and colonies of up to 20,000 individuals have been observed.

this cavefish has a concept of the passage of time that no other living animal could fathom
“Everyone has the same 24h” yeah right buddy say that to cavefish
almost all animals have set activity and rest patterns and this guy does whatever whenever
I've been meaning to make a post talking about my stroke because y'all got bits and pieces of the recovery but I never actually told the story of HOW it went down and the thing is the type of stroke I had is usually the type young people have and since having mine i've now heard multiple stories of people under 40 having very similar strokes and the scary thing is, is that they didn't get help right away. Because you're young and healthy and sure you feel weird but it'll pass right? but it doesn't, and it gets worse, and by the time you get to the hospital (some people literally take days to go) the deficits are worse and recovery is harder.
so here's a super long post about strokes in general, and mine in particular/what I went through.
Some of you might remember me talking about this when it happened- please read and be aware that strokes can happen at any age!
For anyone who has ever had covid before, please be sure you are aware of stroke symptoms. Each successive infection raises the risk in a pretty major way, and a lot of people are dying young due to not knowing these signs or being afraid to act on them. Please take care of yourselves.

Saj Issa - Crocodile Crown
so today a public health official guy came into my class to give a lecture on disaster awareness and he was talking about house fires and mentioned that the reason people most likely die during a house fire is because they refuse to leave their pet inside or they go back to get their pet. and right when he said this my friend immediately turned his head and looked at me and in that moment I had the most complete and genuine acceptance take over my body. I would 100% in front of my family and Jesus himself walk straight back into some raging inferno that was once my house to go get my fat cat. I nodded back
the best part of this post is reading all the tags from animal people who would also go back to save their pets. like no hesitation. walk backwards from heaven straight back into hell. someone even said they would go back for their fish. amazing
If you are a person who would walk into a blazing inferno for your animal, and your pet has free movement around the house, here’s a training exercise that could help save you both:
1) Set off your smoke alarm or play the sound on your phone (if your home has no smoke alarms, pease get some!)
2) stand BY THE FRONT DOOR to hand out treats
Do this a couple times and then keep it up NO EXCEPTIONS. Accidentally set the alarm off cooking? Treats by the door. Smoke alarm sound on TV? Treats by the door. Changing your smoke alarm batteries twice a year like you’re supposed to? Give them a test run and your pets get treats by the door.
Most dogs and cats will clue in VERY quickly that hearing that specific sound means go to the front door and wait for treats.
If there’s an emergency and even if you leave by another way, you will still know the most likely place your pet(s) is and can direct first responders to help.
You can also do this for any other kind of emergency alarm. My friend had both her cats trained to go to the front door for a tsunami siren.
Finding out AI companies are chewing through - literally, they’re pulping and burning them as they go - millions of books often including 1/1s and old texts that cannot be reprinted
Meanwhile there’s always some dipshit telling me AI is the future and we’ve got to just let companies erase human history and literature so they can train their abomination machines to pretend to think like people because a judge said it’s fine
AI companies are buying and scanning printed books for training data, raising copyright and cultural preservation concerns as rare volumes a
I have just seen someone make a video complaining that people were over-reacting to this because it wasn't "destroying" books given it was creating a "numeric library", merely "numerizing books" and thus it was preserving books...
... So warn me when Anthropic opens their Online Library, it will be quite a fun experience I guess.
Hinko Smrekar (1883-1942) Delirium, inspired by the work of the same name by Hieronymus Bosch (1450–1516) (1913) Source
“He (Smrekar) drew a delirious man crouched in his underwear on top of a cupboard and trembling with the fear at the sight of a multitude of monstrous hybrids, including crosses of beetles, caterpillars, centipedes, fish, sea monsters, and so on. In short, all the creatures from Bosch’s pandemonium.”
Corporations should have a champion

I suggest the title of CVO: Chief Violence Officer!

You’re completely correct. Out of my way, able-bodied losers. Fuck you.
It's called an EZRide+ and you can learn where to find them here. They're about $1100 US as of June 2026, but you might need to buy additional parts to attach them to your chair, depending on the style of chair.
Remember to put links to products like this, they're usually hard to find and a lot of people need to know they exist.
THIS IS SO COOL
I made something cursed but hopefully helpful to artists.
anon in my inbox said fanfic writers who wrote about dark and taboo topics were not “real writers” because of what they wrote about.
reblog if you believe anon is wrong and writers are writers, no matter what they write about. no matter how they portray these taboo topics.
reblog if you believe art can be about topics that are controversial, taboo or outright disturbing, and artists who create controversial, taboo or outright disturbing art are as valid as artists who create art of conservative values.
reblog to laugh at anon ♡
As much fun as I had writing the Underlord, I think it'd be a mistake not to point towards its inspiration.
When I was a young larvae, I had a LOT of fun playing the game Dungeon Keeper on friends' computers, being an evil disembodied overlord taking care of a sprawling dungeon populated by monsters and horrors of all kinds... many of which couldn't stand each other, so you had to build different rooms for most of them.
I wasn't able to play it in my own house for a few reasons, so eventually when that friend moved away, I lost access to it. Fast forward to the years where I have my own computer and money, I dig around to find Dungeon Keeper again... and find out that modern computers are too good to play it outside of a compatibility mode, something I wasn't savvy enough back then to tinker around with. So, bereft of one of the games that helped shape me into the creature I am today, I made do with games like Overlord and Stubbs the Zombie to live out the fantasy of commanding an evil horde
Fast forward even further, and eventually I find a game called War for the Overworld, which was beat for beat just Dungeon Keeper Except Bigger, with the serial numbers filed off, down to having the exact same voice actor reprising his role as your evil advisor and guide. I play it on and off every so often, and last year I got inspired to start writing the Underlord's homebrew, but much like my mood with the game itself, it became something I tinkered with on and off over the next year
The Underlord is more or less fully lifted from WftO. "Underlord" is a creature that serves as a dungeon's core, like if a lich could fuse itself with a structure instead of a single reliquary. Mendechaus is the name of the game's snarky advisor who's constantly in your ear, translated into Pathfinder as a distant and successful Infernal Duke. The Underlings are a translation of the basic Worker units who handle all the micromanaging of the dungeon's ecosystem autonomously, while the Underhand is a translation of the game's cursor, aka the Hand of Evil, with which you/the Underlord directly interacts with the dungeon.
All the spells and abilities possessed across the Underlord, Underlings, and Underhand are me finding the closest analogues in Pathfinder to the spells in WftO, or making them into unique abilities; the Avarice ritual becomes the slow-and-steady Payday, the player's ability to spy on or leap into individual units becomes Dungeon Sense and Possession, etc. And of course, the Underlord I made is an incredibly powerful butler acting as the second in command to the dungeon's true master, whereas in WftO the Underlord itself is the master... but if you as a DM wanted to return it to its proper roots, you can use the Underlord as a sort of "next step" in a caster's pursuit of power in a different direction than a lich, turning them into a very literal Dungeon Master.
I aspire to be as passionate about something as this guy and the orcas are passionate about hating the sunfish
In the sunfish’s defense!!!!!
