The recent escalation has pushed Lebanon back to the brink of a full scale war.
In 2024, we saw firsthand the systemic failure of the state. As bombs fell, the state offered no safety net for those most vulnerable:
Migrant Workers: Still trapped under the Kafala system a form of modern day slavery, many are being abandoned by employers fleeing the violence, left without papers or safe passage.
Syrian Refugees: Already displaced by over a decade of war, we are once again facing the trauma of being uprooted with nowhere left to run.
Palestinians: Facing an ongoing struggle for survival as the violence in Lebanon mirrors the aggression they have endured for 78 years.
Marginalised Lebanese: Families in the South, Bekaa, and Beirut are losing their livelihoods and homes, watching their society be torn apart once more.
When the state failed, organisers from these communities built critical safety nets. This was done with your help. Last year, we raised $42,000 (USD) that went directly to community organisers from these communities. Now, we must do it again. Hi everyone! As you may know I’m a full time caregiver for my brother and that prevents me from working outside the home on a consistent basis. My brother receives disability but that unfortunately only covers 1/3 of our rent which leaves the rest of our household expenses such as food, utilities, internet service in my lap. Fortunately, I am able to babysit but the hours are inconsistent and recently the clients that I’ve come to depend on have been hit with their own financial struggles which leaves me in the lurch. Money is a huge source of anxiety for me as my bills are piling up faster than I am able to manage on my own. We have very little family to depend on or borrow from and even though that’s been the case for years, it’s even harder now with rising costs. We are hoping to take part in a program that would pay me to take care of my brother but we need a referral from my brothers doctor and the cost to travel to his appointment is mire than I am able to save on a weekly basis after groceries. Right now, my phone is turned off and I would like to switch providers but I would lose my number if I tried without service and I’d run the risk of delaying an already drawn out process with social services.
I’m thankful to all of you who have donated with times being as difficult as they are because I know my situation is not unique and I’m continuing my quest for reliable employment in the meantime but I want to try and get a few things paid off & prepare for the month ahead.

This would cover the final half of this month’s rent, our phones + internet, our pepco bill & to purchase menstrual supplies. A older white woman that lives in the building called the cops on us saying that we were squatting in the apartment. They came and asked to see a lease I don't have one because we aren't staying in this apartment we are just placed here while our apartment gets renovated. But they said that's not proof we need to actually show the apartment number and my name signed smh. I called the super and the landlord office but no answer and now they told us that we have to leave til we have proof that we have permission to be here. I called my old neighbor in the Bronx and she said we could come spend the night at her house. We need a cab to get there .
