Otherwise Magnificent

No matter how progressive people claim to be, many take pleasure in the fact that rape is a specific tool of violence and intimidation meant especially to humiliate victims, and people love seeing their enemies humiliated. The desire to hurt and punish overrides any claims of justice or moral qualms. I can’t say we can ask people to show restraint when it comes to something as politically and ideologically charged as this, but the bar is very low at least for not excusing rape apologia and they have still failed to clear it.

some of you just really, really want to revel in brutality against women without being condemned for it. all of your supposed beliefs and ideals are just a smokescreen for that.

Anyway, I said it yesterday but you’d be surprised how many enemies you make online by saying rape is always wrong, and civilian massacres are always wrong. A lot of people really, truly think rape and terrorism are acceptable as long as it’s against people they hate and/or carried out by people they support, and that’s such a twisted, dangerous path to go down. If someone doesn’t have “rape and civilian mass murder are always wrong” as their baseline, they cannot be trusted.
