Well maybe I don’t WANT to work double as hard as abled people!! Maybe I deserve a BREAK!! Maybe I’ve been working MORE THAN double as hard for MY WHOLE LIFE and it’s led me to immense burnout & caused me to develop several MORE disabilities!! Maybe I should be ACCOMMODATED so I don’t have to KILL MY BODY AND BRAIN over trying to do what abled people can do!! Maybe I DON’T have to work double as hard!! Maybe if there’s the option to let me NOT work double as hard, I should have it, because I’m already working double as hard JUST TO SURVIVE!!

My morally complicated woman. Is she trying to be a good person? Yes. Is she succeeding? Probably not.

Everything bad she does is fully and 100% her fault and she is fully cognizant of that. She very quickly became numb to the guilt, because it's just easier not to think about. She is disgustingly self-aware.

Her children are both severely dysfunctional to the point they would probably both be institutionalized if it weren't for Circumstances, and this is at least 35% her fault. (55% their dad's fault, 5% their granddad's fault, and 5% society's fault) She feels bad about this in theory but also gives like zero shits about them in practice, because she didn't really even want to have children in the first place.

Why might someone from a group of people that historically have been denied access to wealth, now brag that they have it?

“Rappers only talk about sex!”

Why might someone from a group that have historically been denied sexual autonomy now brag about their sexual escapades on their own terms?

“Rappers only talk about drugs and crime!”

you have to be kinder to people who are slow processors.

you have to be kinder to people who don't understand your jokes.

Context:

There's been some debate on if Peril's firescales makes her a canonically disabled character in the series. Her scales prevent her from touching things like food, scrolls/books, living things, non-stone structures or furniture, and other objects without burning them, which many point to affecting her daily life.

in universe, it is a disability because peril struggles to do things able bodied dragons can do. It limits what she does for fun, how she eats, and who she can interact with and how, and in universe, peril gets accommodations. Her rooms are fireproofed, she sleeps alone to avoid hurting herself or others, she has other people read paper documents for her.

Fire scales is a wings of fire canonical disability, but that’s not why i love peril.

It’s entirely out of peril’s control she was born with it and it will never go away, it frustrates her and people are scared of her or just plain mean to her because of it. They often see her as ‘the firescales’ instead of a person. She’s isolated and craves approval, and has a past of using violence to gain approval. Her disability also isn’t inherently visible on the first glance. She’s held to higher standards because it’s more noticeable when she messes up.

It’s an allegory because these are emotional experiences real world disabled people can and do experience, and whether or not that was tui’s intention doesnt deny that is the narrative that she told.

Im also going to add that when chameleon offered her a way out of her firescales, she took it, because she recognizes that firescales Aren’t a superpower, but that they actively worsen her quality of life. She only undid the spell because chameleon messed with her mind without her consent, and even that can be taken as a representation of trying a treatment and the side effects being not worth the main effect.
