It’s ALSO worth saying that police dogs serve a significant role in worsening police brutality. A dog trained to attack a human will maim them. A cop looses a police dog on someone, and that person is expected to peacefully cooperate while a dog is trying to tear their limbs off. It is very easy for those massive wounds to get infected. It is an absurd amount of violence. And beyond the initial attack, the fact that a “poor sweet innocent doggo” did this is used to excuse that brutality in court. Especially if the victim, panicking in the moment, lashed out at the dog. As this website has demonstrated many times, majority-white juries have more sympathies for injured dogs than the people of color who are most often victims of police brutality. So they’re not just systemic animal abuse, they’re also a tool for increased police brutality and to excuse

There is no way to square that circle, but that was the narrative that they, and more importantly, Trump, got invested in. Trump wanted to beat the virus fast and easy so he could look like a hero. He also wanted it to have minimal impact on the economy. Fauci following the recommendations of experts to mask up and lock down both felt unheroic to Trump, and furthermore brought the economy to a halt. Trump did everything he could to undermine Fauci, saying covids deadliness was overblown, propping up any quack he could find who claimed to have an easy cure, refusing to acknowledge masks or lockdowns as effective. and then when people kept dying blaming Fauci for it. It's the only thing he knew how to do and because republicans wanted to stay in his good graces they had to go along with it. and since then trump has only doubled down on it so republicans have to double down too. of course theres nothing there and none of it makes sense and since Biden already gave Fauci a blanket pardon for everything Trump accused him of last time they can only grasp at the flimsiest of straws and hope Fauci does or says anything they can use to incriminate him again and appease their leader
