i'm actually curious, what trinkets do you guys have on your keychains? 🗝️
Nature is healing
There’s a quality that certain books/movies/TV shows have that leads me to say, “Yeah, I can see people making fanfiction of that.” It’s something to do, I think, with how tight the story is, how much feels open-ended or like it could be elaborated on.
Something like Breaking Bad, for example, has low squiggability (that’s what I’m calling this quality). It’s tightly written, the characters are consistent, there’s little left to interpolate or extrapolate. Obviously, people DO write fanfic of Breaking Bad, but it still has a low squiggability score. Whereas something like Supernatural has a high squiggability score. Fantasy and science fiction often have high squiggability scores. This suggests squiggability could also be related to worldbuilding and potential for people to borrow a premise or setting.
And sometimes you’ll read or watch something and you’ll say, “Ah, low squiggability,” and then you’ll open tumblr and find out that everyone else seem to think its squiggability was very high indeed.

She's being so big and brave.
The long awaited sequel.
most braindead fanbase on planet earth lmao
So the UK will reroute a fucking Internet cable for a fake grave for a fake elf because a bunch of brain dead nerds through a pissy fit, and meanwhile real actual natives in the US are getting arrested for trying to keep oil sand pipelines from going through their actual graves, holy sites and unceded territory. Burn it all down.
oh it's worse, it's not an internet cable, it's a cable for distributing cleanly generated solar/wind electricity
this grave has a real life physical location and YOU 🫵 can destroy it
they routed the project and such that it's close to an actual Bronze Age burial site btw. so they're possibly disturbing REAL graves in order to not "disturb" a fictional character's "grave"
Yeah, this is in West Wales - Freshwater West in Pembrokeshire. Shit head tourists keep going there and littering it with fucking socks and painted pebbles. It's in a national park and is environmentally sensitive, so yes, please, do go and destroy the fucking thing
Have to add to this, that apparently it’s not accurate-
Someone in the comments linked to some digging and it’s also from something that happened between 2018-2024.
The cable is in use and has been since 2025.
Making sure to add this before I post because I almost let my first impression get the better of me and rant without checking anything just because of how angry I get about anything JK related now. But I don’t want to spread misinformation because of that.
“despite the bbc reporting on this, it's probably not true and based only on someone lying on a podcast.” https://bsky.app/profile/pantherraccoon.bsky.social/post/3msqfg6n2ks2r

Using a giant orange foam hand on the end of a very long pole to tap the massive billboard that says:
IT'S STILL MISINFORMATION EVEN IF IT'S DUNKING ON SOMEONE YOU DON'T LIKE
(the part about idiot tourists littering at the site is legit as far as I know and yeah, the national park ought to just take it down. People being jackasses about movie/TV filming locations is not a problem limited to any one fandom though. E.g. people throwing pizzas on the roof of the house from Breaking Bad when that isn't even a public location, that's literally someone's actual house)
tv show. white man. hes sad. he has to do important thing but its hard. his girlfriend died probably. TWSIT!! theres another white man. maybe MORE. hes sad too but for different reason. its very deep probably. theyre best friends but not gay but maybe they are haha fandom!!! every girl dies or goes away. just not gay white man friend. 10 seasons 100 million viewers. what will moody white men do this week.
This post just turned 10 years old which is pretty fucked up actually. When I made this post people would say things like “actually supernatural only has 8 seasons” but here we are in 2023 so who’s laughing now. Not me I want to die
There's an eclipse coming so I've been thinking about Ryland Grace trying to brag about how much better Earth's eclipses are than other planets' - Mars' looks terrible - and Rocky, who cannot see stars or moons, could not give less of a shit.
Grace is trying desperately to make Rocky understand, and Rocky is turning back to whatever he's working on going 'Mhm, yeah, sure thing'
Something else I see people keep forgetting: between humans and Eridians, we are the astronauts. And we are good at it.
Eridians' perception of the world relies on something that is completely absent in space — sound. They haven't been looking at the stars their entire existence the way we have. Their concept of aliens might only be as old as their discovery of astrophage. They made a bad ship, because it was their first one ever! Rocky himself says they rushed it, and that multiple (vital) things broke. Their mission was just as much of a Hail Mary pass as ours was — they had no idea what they were doing, if they could even travel in space safely. And, as it turns out, they couldn't.
Humans are the ones who have been doing it over multiple lifetimes. Mary is state of the art. We've been space farers longer than most humans have been alive. We can actually see through space. We are more likely to survive exposure to the void. We can encase our lighter, more flexible, more mobile bodies in a material that lets us walk outside of our ship, and, to a degree, we can get our bearings out there in a way Eridians just can't.
Eridians are not looking at Mary and thinking she's a bad ship. They are not thinking humans have no idea what we're doing. They are looking at this species that can walk in the stars, have been perfecting machines to take us to them for decades, have been dreaming about them and mapping them and naming them for millennia, and used all of that to save them, and thinking, wow.

Anthony Steward Head as “Rupert Cadell” in the play “Rope” (1993)
the thing about "people have talked about it you're just 21" is that it's not really "young people are stupid" it's more "if you come into an academic discussion you should know what people have said on the matter lest you talk out your ass"
Research is the PPE that prevents you from taking sick burns during a flame war.
You gotta be really publicly passionate about things if you want your friends to text you. Bc people will forget to text you because they’re human. But if you’re really openly the friend who loves identifying ants your friends will think of you when they see ants. And they’ll text you “what ant is this [blurry photo]”. And then they’ll ask you how you’ve been and we should get coffee sometime. But if they don’t know what you love they’ll never know what you like
And then when the ant convention is in town they’ll be like dude… we should go to the ant convention. But they would never think to go if they didn’t know u loved ants
And sometimes you need to ask them to go to the ant convention. But you Will not get anywhere hiding your passions
he cries before sex, he cries after sex, but never during sex. during sex he has a fucking job to do

Important reminder
This reminds me of the fact that "Ancient Egypt" goes back so many thousands of years, that the most recent "Ancient Egyptians" were already studying (even more) Ancient Egypt.
Not even the most recent ones. It was an Egyptian prince from the 13th century BCE studying and restoring artifacts from the 26th century BCE.
For context, the last Pharaoh, Cleopatra VII, lived in the 1st century BCE. Prince Khaemweset, known as "the first egyptologist", was as ancient to her as the pyramids and tombs he was studying were ancient to him.
I remember having me mind completely blown when I learned that the "New Kingdom" was pre-Bronze Age Collapse.
This has totally be mentioned in another fork of this post, but it reminds me quite a bit of Ennigaldi-Nanna's museum, a museum in Ur, c. 530 BC, which housed mesopotamian artifacts dating back in some cases to the 20th century BC
