If everything we have seen of Sam is true, he’d be the first in line to agree with us. We don’t know this man, so we can only judge based on interviews, but he’s always the first to mention the rest of the cast and highlight how important their work has been. He always uplifts Jacob and reminds people Louis is one of the most central characters in the show. People keep trying to give him all the credit and he refuses it every time.

Highlighting very real societal biases people hold is not taking anything away from Sam. I’m sure there are people who just hate Lestat and don’t want him to be the protagonist this season, but if you group every person who criticises AMC in with those people, then you’re not a serious person. If you hear discussions of racism and your first thought is that it’s taking away attention from your blorbo, then you cannot be surprised when people don’t want to engage with you.

It’s not uncommon for the members of IR to miss a haircut or several, and it is one of these instances that made Gordon stop and… oh

She hides in her bedroom when they all finally have time to wrangle their hair; she doesn’t know what this is yet, but something has shifted and it feels a bit like she might choke and die if she has to go back to having short hair.

Gordon worships chapstick, especially for the first several months when she’s figuring out the details

Gordon’s wide shoulders had never bothered her before, but on a trip to the mainland with Grandma, Gordon’s eyes linger just a fraction too long on a flowy, buttercup sundress, and she cringes when she imagines her shoulders “destroying” the gorgeous dress.

Gordon first tries to braid her hair while listening to flouncy ukulele alt-rock and it goes hilariously.

They’re all sitting in the lounge, a rare and relaxing evening, and into the calm Gordon quietly throws “hey, so, apparently I’m a girl” and they all smile back at her and tell her they love her.

They do all have proper conversation, in smaller gatherings, about what Gordon wants regarding her name, and if they'd accidentally made her feel like she couldn't tell them earlier. In all truth, even though she'd spent so long paying attention to her body as an athlete, and most of what came after that was just pain, she truly just hadn't considered the little itch in her sternum any time someone called her a boy to be anything more that a little itch

Makeup wasn’t something she’d ever considered before, but now she has too much and can never find anything in the top drawer of her bathroom.

Doesn’t really hate that her name is Gordon, but sometimes it still makes her skin itchy, so she tries Cooper, sometimes, mostly for new people, and finds that using both just… works for her

Penelope buys her a deep crimson pantsuit, and it rocks

It takes a long while, but Gordon goes back to get that dress and… it’s not there -_-

She gets another dress, green with black fern leaves patterned on it, and it has pockets.

Cooper still wears her old jeans and shorts because even though they remind her of before they have functioning pockets, and don’t ride up.

Gordon just can not do eyeliner, but she’s got a handle on the eyeshadow/mascara combo

Cooper buys a bikini as a joke, but uh. She wears it all the time now, whoops.

in aotearoa, june isn’t our pride, it’s theirs. marsha p johnson and sylvia rivera are their historical figures, not ours. the phrase that “you owe your rights to Black trans women” is true there, but here we owe our rights to (mostly) Māori historical figures. i have the freedoms i do because of the legacy of an entirely different set of people operating in an entirely different context at entirely different times.

But because of american cultural imperialism, most queer people in Aotearoa don’t even know our own queer history. Carmen Rupe, Ngahuia Te Awekotuku, the Dorian Society, Gillian Laundon, Georgina Beyer, and the Wolfenden Association are some of our queer history. We should know their names! we should know what they did for us! but because of the power of the american imperial machine, we don’t.

our national pride month should be july, the month that the Homosexual Law Reform Act passed in 1986. our two largest cities hold their pride festivals in february and march, respectively. american queer history has very little (or nothing, depending on who you ask) to do with our queer history. anecdotally, from my own queries, queer youth in aotearoa know more about american queer history than our own.
