I forgot to eat dinner so I'm having 11 pm corn on the cob. This counts as a meal
... It's possible that I really need to do some grocery shopping
Okay for those of you living in pitiful ignorance, take a raw ear of corn with the husk on and cut all the way around the base (as pictured: above the point where the husk meets the cob, so that the entire husk is severed but still wrapped around the corn. Do not cut through the cob.) Then, with the husk still on, microwave it for 5-7 minutes. It'll basically steam it inside the husk. Remove from microwave --it will be hot, so use a mitt or a towel--and firmly pull the top of the husk/silk, which should come off easily in one piece, unsheathing a flawless corn on the cob. If it doesn't, you probably need to cut a little higher around the base, so all the leaves are severed. No picking off silk!
For the nonbelievers (and for me, a second corn)

at some point in your life you will be boiling fruit, water, sugar, and lemon juice in a pot to make a syrup or jam. the instructions will tell you to simmer for a certain amt of time. your timer will go off and you will look at the pot and go, "hm, this doesn't look thick enough. maybe i'll let it go for another 10 minutes." this is the devil speaking. it's only so liquid right now because it is at boiling point. it will thicken when it cools down. learn from the follies of my youth and do not let this happen to you
at some point in your life you will be making a sauce or a stew in which you need to add cornstarch to thicken it. and you will prepare a slurry of starch in cold water and think "this looks like way too little starch to thicken this amount of liquid." this is the devil speaking. cornstarch instantly polymerizes at 95°C and if you add too much it will turn into an impossibly thick goop.
at some point in your life you will be making some sort of cream based dessert that requires gelatin to thicken it. and you will soak some gelatin sheets in water and think "this is too few gelatin sheets for this amount of cream." this is the devil speaking. it will thicken in the fridge and if you add too much you will end up with milk jelly
at some point in your life you will be baking cookies. you will take the sheet out after twelve minutes as the recipe instructs and the cookies will still be glistening and soft. "these don't seem cooked enough," you will think to yourself, "i should place them back into the oven until their edges are nice and golden." this is the devil talking. this is how you get dry, overdone cookies. the cookies will continue to bake on the warm sheet for several more minutes and then harden up after sitting on a rack for a while. trust the process. trust the process.
at some point in your life you will be adding a small pasta to a soup and you will think "that is not enough small pasta." this is the devil talking. the pasta will absorb the stock and expand. this is how you end up with a soup that is a solid mass of soggy ditalini.
At some point in your life you will be adding garlic to a dish and you will think "that is not enough garlic." These are angels speaking. They are correct. Add more garlic.
I love characters who are like "I'm a terrible person" but when you look closer it's more like
"I adapted to survive something and now I don't know how to stop being that version of myself."
I like the idea in fantasy that humans are better at maintaining things long term because they set up societies or professions to do it whereas dwarves and elves and stuff are like âjust get bob to do it heâs got a good few hundred years leftâ and then bob doesnât teach anyone else how to do it
Elf: How have you kept this castle maintained for a thousand years if your lives are so short?
Human: We just train new people how to do it?
Elf: *gears visibly turning in their head*
Human: Are you alright?
Elf: I just realized that we didnât have to let that whole city fall to ruin just because my grandfather died.
Human: What?
Human: Wait thatâs why thereâs ruins of elven cities even though you live for so long? You just keep not asking people how to do things? How do you learn anything?
Elf: Thereâs a lot of âyouâve got time to figure it out on your ownâ attitudes floating around in our society that Iâm starting to question somewhat.
Elf: That sword, where did you get it?
Human: My cousin made it.
Elf: Impossible! Those metalworking techniques were lost a hundred years ago!
Human: What do you mean lost? My great-grandmother learned to make these swords from an elven smith, then taught it to her kids.
Elf: That's ridiculous. No elf would give such secrets to a human.
Human: They didn't. Meemaw delivered the metal to the forge, and no one kicked her out when she stayed and watched. She always said they barely acknowledged her even when doing business with her, like she wasn't worth noticing.
Elf: Come to think of it, my great-uncle always was rather single-minded when he started working.
Human: So he wasn't ignoring her, he just forgot she was there?
Elf: Oh, he was definitely ignoring her, too. He was super racist.
When I say itâs very easy to see when something is published, hereâs what I mean:
This is one of the front pages of my copy of Budgeâs translation of the Book of the Dead! All books have these, mostly theyâre in the first couple of pages or in this case after some pictures of Aniâs papyrus.
The first date we see is 1960. Thatâs for this revised version of the translation.
The second date is 1999, which is the publishing date for this specific edition of the book. If Iâm reading the numbers right down at the bottom correctly, then this is the 20th edition of this text. This is the date and version Iâd cite in an essay/paper because itâs the one I have.
Then we have the original publication date of 1895 down at the bottom. This tells us that despite my copy of the book being from 1999, the actual author wrote it back in 1895 and therefore I should be careful because this is a 131 year old translation. You donât cite this unless in the context of your essay you want to say âhey so uhh this translation is old as balls and has issuesâ.
This has been a very basic summary of how to find a date in a book for a bibliography.

Kids sitcom about a group of friends where all of them are a part of secret magical or superhero based underground society that donât know about each other and they all think that the others are ignorant normies that they have to protect from their magical shenanigans.
The witch kid, the superhero sidekick, the cryptid hunter, and the half fairy kid are all unknowingly trying to hide the same talking cat from the principal of their school and the talking cat doesnât tell any of them about each other because itâs currently getting many extra helpings of treats in exchange for its silence.
During the episode where they all find out about each otherâs secret lives thereâs obviously a slow look over to the cat whoâs like âwell you never asked. Anyways, completely unrelated but Iâve gotta go.â
As more seasons pass, it's eventually revealed the rich kid who bullies the main cast is secretly child of some dark lord all the societies fear and eventually the bully works with the main cast to defeat them in the series finale or movie
Yeah Iâm down for some 8th graders taking down the devil thatâs good tv
Really important. You cannot make one of the secret societies the "real" one that all other magic systems are derived from in some way.
The sci-fi explanations of super powers cannot fully explain the fairy magic, nor can the sci-fi superpowers tap into fairy magic energy cores. The witch's arcane knowledge cannot fully explain the existence of the cryptids. The fairy magic and the witch magic are fundamentally incompatible but both demonstrably effective.
After they all know each other, trying to decipher and/or argue about whose domain the monster of the week belongs to (and therefore whose foreknowledge about its strengths and weaknesses is most accurate) is a not irregular occurrence. Sometimes the monster is known in multiple domains and the conflicting information is somehow both correct. Sometimes the monster is definitively one aspect, and another appears to be, but there are errors or circumstances evidence. Sometimes the monster is a secret third thing that doesn't properly fit any of them.
Yes. Also whenever you ask the talking cat why he can talk he gives you a completely different explanation.
great job everyone lets hit the showers

When you meet Edward Elric he gives off the impression that he's the short-tempered hot-headed "violence is the answer to all life's questions" kind of protagonist, and it's in fact incredible character craft that he's actually the character who ends the series with a negative-3 kill count.
people killed: 0
direct orders of "you really really need to kill this guy" ignored: 1
ongoing murders being committed by Ed's own friends/colleagues that Ed got in the way of to specifically stop that murder from happening: 2
God's worst soldier Edward Elric. Showed up as the youngest member of the Amestrian army, took millions of dollars from them, never followed a single order, helped dismantle their fascist regime, left with a lower kill count than he arrived with, then fucked off to go be a house-husband. Character of all time.
You know, when you said "negative-3 kill count," I, who haven't seen the anime, thought, "He resurrected 3 people?????" But I'm seeing here on the wiki that apparently resurrection in this anime is a terrible idea.
Official addition to this post.
love seeing revisionism in the wild âfree the nipple never meant you can walk around topless every where thatâs still sexual harassment it just meant for like breastfeeding and stuffâno it literally means you should be able to walk around topless anywhere because get this. breasts arenât fucking sexual organs.
I remember when I was about 12, I watched a show on TLC that followed people as they got somewhat uncommon medical procedures.
There was one episode with a trans woman getting different gender-affirming operations, including breast implants. It showed the procedure, and (what I found so fascinating that it's stuck with me for decades), as soon as the doctor put the implant in, a censor blur popped up on the nipple.
And you just know there was a meeting between the TLC lawyers and the editors and producers of the show to discuss what the difference was between a "man nipple" (can be shown) and a "woman nipple" (no no must obscure, 'tis naughty). And they decided that as soon as the implant goes in and the nipple has more mass behind it, that's the moment when it becomes a woman's nipple and must be hidden to comply with TV rules.
But it's the same nipple. On the same person. I know what it looks like; I just saw it. But TV and obscenity rules are rules, and the rules say woman nipple = sexual and therefore explicit, but man nipple = neutral, just fine.
"Free the Nipple" was calling out arbitrary bullshit like that, because someone just existing with their body parts should not be considered obscene, and the double standard that men can be topless but women can't is so blatantly ridiculous. All nipples are just nipples. If you get turned on or bothered by them, that's on you.
