“I’ve made a lot of mistakes, but loving you is not one of them.” and/or "I fell in love with my best friend." for Cherik please? I love your work!
It resembled the school from the outside, butit was more modern inside. It was also much smaller, though still too big fortwo people. Charles wandered from one room to another. There was only onefloor, and he could easily get to any place on his wheelchair. Erik had reallythought about everything.
“How didyou know I would accept your offer?”
“Maybe Ijust assumed that you didn’t have any other options.” Erik leanedagainst the door frame, put his arms over his chest, and smiled. “Or maybe I hada little bit of hope.”
Charlesrolled his eyes, and the corners of his mouth twitched when he passed Erik andreturned to the huge corridor. Various rooms and other smaller corridors spreadout from it. Charles wondered where his bedroom was… and where was Erik’s? Itstill did not quite reach him that they were supposed to live together.
They’dspent many years arguing with each other and Charles, even in his boldestdreams, hadn’t foreseen that it all could end like this. He couldn’t help butfear that at any moment something bad would happen and divide the worlds ofmutants and people, making Erik leave him once again.
Now Eriktook a few steps toward him, apparently sensing a change of mood.
“Nothing. It’s a beautiful house, but don’t you think it’s too big for us?” Charles plastereda smile on his face, looking up at the high ceiling. “I’ll spend hours lookingfor you.”
“And youwill always find me,” Erik said it so casually as if there was no doublemeaning behind his words. “Come on, Charles. I can’t read your mind. What’s wrong?”
Charlesglanced at him, trying to put his thoughts together. Sharing a home, beingtogether… he finally got what he wanted. However, he was afraid that it couldbe easily destroyed. In one moment Erik was his friend, in the other his enemy. It varied from time to time, but it never stayed constant. How could he be surethat this time it would be different?
“I lostRaven,” he whispered. “I lost Jean. I lost the school and I lost my students. I’vegot only you, Erik. In Paris, you came to me exactly when I needed you, but I…want you to promise that you’ll stay.”
Erik kneltdown next to him and took his hand in his. Taken aback, Charles did not move. Thatlittle physical distance between them proved to be extremely soothing. Theireyes met.
“We’ve wastedso much time fighting each other. We won’t regain all these moments, but we cancreate new ones. I’ve made a lot of mistakes, Charles, but loving you is notone of them.”
Initially,Charles thought he had misheard his friend, or worse, that he was made fun of.Therefore, he allowed himself to penetrate Erik’s mind and there, going throughprecious memories and finding nothing less but hope, he received theconfirmation of words that seemed too good to be true.
“A longtime ago I fell in love my best friend,” he said, tears shining in his blueeyes. “He made me wait for him for a long time, but I guess it was worth it.”
So that washappiness. It had Erik’s look when he picked Charles up and took him in hisarms. It had Erik’s lips when, after years of longing, they found their way toCharles’. It had the familiar smell of Erik and his gentle yet firm touch.
If he hadto, Charles would experience it all again. He would jump into the cold water tosave Erik, get paralyzed on the Cuban beach, fall into depression after losing his two best friends, then reunite with Erik just to lose him again. He would do itall if it was the price to pay for that sweet moment. If all this pain meantthat from now on there would only be peace.
“I’ll show ourbedroom.” Erik carried him towards one of the small corridors.
“Our… Oh.” Charlessmiled; he would get used to it eventually. “You know, I’ve been thinking thatsince the house is so huge, we could invite Peter over. Some father-son bondingwill do you both good.”
Erikstopped and, having read his tangle of thoughts and noticed the horrified lookon his face, Charles guessed that he had accidentally made a huge mistake. Hehad been certain that Erik knew.
“Charles, what the hell are you talking about?”
“Um… Youbetter sit down.”
So that wasit. He should have known that there was no peace when it came to Magneto, butthis time it was Charles’ fault and he had to face the consequences. At least,he couldn’t deny the fact that their life together promised to be rather interesting.
