Sorry, love. Gotta save the world.

And then suddenly they’re spending most of their time together. Stiles makes fun of Derek for wearing jeans in the summer, and Derek spends increasing amounts of time thinking about the decreasing amount of clothes Stiles wears.

Derek griping one particularly hot day about why he asked Stiles to even help, because Stiles is getting ornery and has been asking Derek to take him for ice cream for about an hour. 

And Stiles scoffs and says, “you’d be lost without me,” and then for good measure, “you need me to survive,” voice reminiscent more batman than Derek. Derek rolls his eyes in response and tries to find his place on the page.

“C’mon, or I’ll rip your throat out…with my teeth.” Stiles makes chomping noises dramatically, his teeth clacking together. 

“Hey, remember how lame you are?” Stiles asks. “Like that one time you murdered a perfectly good basketball to intimidate me?” 

“I remember it working,” Derek responds, finally looking over at him. 

“Pfft. Don’t mistake my arousal for intimidation,” Stiles says. Derek lifts a brow. Stiles waggles his. 

“Is that a confession or a come on?” Derek asks. 

“Oh, if it were a come on you’d know,” Stiles says. “Now buy me ice cream.”

He does, obviously. And that’s how they’re sitting on a sticky park bench beneath the shade of a large tree, eating ice cream and discussing strategy. 

Stiles is being antagonistic, as usual, Derek tries scowling at him but his hand is wrapped around a large sugar cone, a spot of melted chocolate ice cream dripping from the tip of his nose. It really downplayed the intended ferocity.

Stiles tried. He really did. But then Derek’s nose twitched and he lost it. He made a choked off snort in the back of his throat as air seeped out with a rude sound from his tightly closed lips before he was doubling over into hysterics. Derek just watched, growing redder and redder as Stiles giggled. He laughed until tears were streaming down his flushed face and Derek grew more and more flustered.

“I’m serious Stiles,” he said, but his voice had lost its edge and he sounded like a petulant child.

“I know!” Stiles wailed, “that’s what makes it—“ he heaved in a breath, “so funny!”

“What the fuck Stiles?” Derek scowled, he was holding his ice cream like it, too, had been laughing at him. Stiles was surprised steam wasn’t pouring out from Derek’s ears as Stiles righted himself, leaning forward towards Derek.

Derek looked confused and he leaned back a bit, out of Stiles’ reach. Stiles was still giggling, unable to contain himself as he aimed for Derek’s nose, Derek was trying to dodge, apparently afraid Stiles was trying to poke him in the eye. When he finally managed to swipe the tip of his index finger across Derek’s nose, Derek went still, confused.

Stiles’ laughter faded into a pleased sort of smile as he showed Derek. Derek opened his mouth to say something but closed it again, watching as the pink tip of Stiles’ tongue darted out and licked up the dripping mess.

“Ah,” Stiles sighed with a breathy laugh, licking more ice cream off his plastic spoon; Derek stayed silent beside him. 

In the end it’s Derek that makes the first move. Possibly because Stiles didn’t think they were seriously flirting.  

Derek isn’t even entirely sure, maybe not entirely sure until Stiles was pulling off his socks and flailing himself onto Derek’s bed, stretched out on his stomach to read, like he doesn’t think at all about how his scent is going to seep into Derek’s bed sheets.

What the implications of that are for werewolves. 

Or maybe he does. Stiles cancels plans with Scott, after complaining about his absence all summer, to stay and help Derek and when he hangs up the phone and tosses it on the bed between them Derek leans over easily and kisses him.

It was the honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther. ⁣He died in his home, with his wife and family by his side. ⁣
