i was tagged by @bitchesofostwick, it's not wednesday anymore so i'm not gonna tag anyone, but here's a snippet from my upcoming fic about a pairing that started as a joke and now i'm way too invested, (tagging @purahs bc she's in hell with me)

Several of the candles had actually sputtered out and the fire was burning low by the time Anora put down her quill with a triumphant smile. Teagan chuckled and stood, stretching out the stiffness in his back with a groan.
“Are you satisfied that the agreement is up to your standards now, my lady? Can we finally retire for the night?”
Anora laughed too, and rubbed her eyes. “I believe we can.”
Teagan gathered up some of the papers, still smiling helplessly as he stored them away. He crossed back to the table, and as he reached to pick up a candle holder, Anora suddenly turned around, evidently planning to speak to him but not anticipating him being so close, and they both froze in place, bodies almost pressed against each other and faces inches apart.
It was as if the room itself was holding its breath.
All Teagan could do was stare at her, pulse thudding in his ears, the skin at the back of his neck prickling as the tension mounted. The glow of the fire turned her hair to gold, her skin bathed in ethereal light. Her chest moved in shallow breaths, the elegant slope of her neck stretched out, chin tipped up as she looked at his face. The moment stretched out for several lifetimes, the silence between them too holy to profane with anything as base as speech. Teagan kept as still as possible, terrified that a single movement might break the spell, that he would lose this, lose her, and he would rather stay like this forever than go back to being without her.
“Teagan...” She whispered, eyes still fixed on his.
“Anora, I…” He trailed off, completely at a loss as for what else to say. Agonisingly slowly, he lifted his hand, letting out a long, shaky breath as he reached forward to cup her face gently, and brush her cheek with his thumb. “I want…” he said, hoarsely, heart threatening to beat out of his chest. “I want…” He repeated helplessly.
It was almost imperceptible, but as he lapsed into silence again, Anora leaned into his touch, pressing them a fraction closer. Teagan couldn’t hold back any longer, and finally, crossed the impassable distance between them and kissed her.
“and to one lost sheep, a shepherd boy is greater than the richest king” would go over a shot of fenris and orana in the montage. if anyone even cares .

the idea that this secret group of people is pulling strings for their own ends, by covertly influencing society and putting people of their choosing into the "right place at the right time" to further their own agenda - that is just the protocols of the elders of zion. the idea of the illuminati and a new world order or a secret cabal, all of these have roots in antisemetism and the concept of the "jewish elite".
there is no interpretation of the ending that absolves it of this context.

it pisses me off so bad when someone's like "oh, you've identified a collection of racist/transmisogynistic/antisemetic/etc tropes in this character? and you're criticizing it? well YOU'RE the REAL bigot for associating those tropes with those demographics in the first place!" like it's some kind of gotcha moment and not an immediate indication that i'm doing the equivalent of playing chess with a pigeon

imagine being in love with a girl but she has to marry someone else because he's the crown prince and they've been betrothed since birth. and you go to the wedding because you promised her you would. and also you're kinda friends with him as well. but afterwards you barely see her because it hurts too much.
then years later, you have to jailbreak her from the house of the man that murdered your family before he murders her too. and she's now a widow. and you hadn't really processed that because you're a grey warden stopping the blight and trying to prevent a civil war. and you don't know what to say. and then she smiles at you.
and THEN you get surrounded by guards and immediately surrender to protect her. and you sit in prison agonising over whether trying to escape will affect her long enough that your companions engage in a scooby doo-ass rescue, and then you have to go to the landsmeet where her father accuses you of murdering her late husband and trying to lead a coup to seize power. and then you have to duel him. and then win and you could execute him for his numerous crimes but you spare his life and conscript him into the grey wardens. because you love her.
