THE FIRST DEATH IS IN THE HEART

i do so love the casting choices in troy!!! orlando bloom is the PERFECT paris to me, and i’m also very weak for sean bean’s odysseus - he really captures the balance of brilliance and arrogance in him.

i also think brad pitt is an iconic achilles, because you really don’t root for him. as it should be. i also love andromache a lot as a character, and think saffron burrows does her justice, even though the script doesn’t give her a lot to work with. meanwhile eric bana is really good at being a frustrated but pious hector. don’t get me started on how he’s also given the role of cassandra, as she’s written out of the story. it works, to me.

listen… you’re NOT wrong. it’s very of its time.

the thing is i used to be OBSESSED with greek mythology. and one thing about me is i love to analyse different interpretations of the same text. so while i do think troy is an entertaining action movie, it’s first and foremost an adaptation of the iliad to me. and as such it says so much about the era in which it was made. it’s fascinating.

also i genuinely do think the casting choices were immaculate (orlando bloom is a very punchable paris) and the costumes… god i love them.

with that said, i can’t say it’s a GOOD movie. it makes me laugh when it’s not supposed to. it frustrates me to no end. but it also genuinely does move me for about… ten minutes or so.
