I just indicated my sexual orientation and gender identity on a work platform and I have mixed feelings about it.
It was 100% voluntary to self identify. I opted to, for the sake of their LGBTQIA+ training furtherance.
I donât love the idea of that information being on file just because I donât trust that the human people handling information are 100% professional with it.
But thatâs also part of why itâs important. To see the number of people that are impacted by the training and how necessary it is.
Itâs not even my information that makes me uneasy. Itâs other peopleâs information. But theyâre not obligated to share, so I should chill.

hereâs another fun fact: asexual does not mean nonsexual.
asexualsâ relationship with sex and sexual attraction tends to beâŚ.complicated. thereâs a bit of an idea of like, oh of course, youâre either sex-favorable, sex-neutral, or sex-repulsed, but honestly i see a LOT of discussion about how wildly different those can each look for each individual. some people are comfortable with some acts in very specific contexts, and deeply upset by them in all others. some people find certain forms of nonsexual intimacy (like kissing) to still be off-limits, while something most people might consider more charged (like nudity) is totally fine. a lot of us just kind of have a long laundry list like âthis is fine, this isnât, that oneâs okay, that oneâs always off-limitsâŚ.â because the big secret is that âsexâ isnât really any cohesive act as much as a lot of little things that people just threw together and called one thing.
as for attraction: some aces are actually attracted to other people once in a blue moon, and simply donât want to clarify that every time. some arenât entirely sure, but donât want to spend their whole lives guessing. some ARE completely sure they never have and never will feel an attraction.
at the end of the day, much like any label, this single word really doesnât tell you much of anything about what a person is actually like unless you bother to ask them what it means to them.

Portrait of an unidentified woman standing outdoors wearing a blouse with exaggerated sleeves, 1896
PSC scholars have identified her as Minerva Culpepper, an aspiring inventor who actually patented (US436004D1) these sleeves, colloquially known as âkeep-your-damned-distance sleeves.â
Item: Blouse of Keep Your Damned Distance
I think this belongs here.

why donât you look at a painting which is predominantly blue and lose yourself in its melancholy and maybe youâll. actually you wonât calm down.

i think people who enjoyed the Coraline movie but never read the book need to view Dave McKean's illustrations for it at least once in their lives

what if public libraries were open late every night so that:
- children and teens who cant get home until a later time have a safe, warm, well lit, populated area to socialize, charge devices, rest, etc
- children and teens have a safe place to go to stay away from danger
- people who have jobs that take up most of the day would still have time ANY DAY OF THE WEEK to go use the libraries facilities (printing, computers, etc)
This is exactly what public libraries are trying to achieve - public libraries as a third place is a whole thing - itâs just that the funding isnât there (yet).
Libraries need and deserve so much funding
Iâm going to apologize if this post comes off as sounding very aggressive, but having just been through one of the most stressful experiences of my entire career in libraries:Â
if you want this, you need to be at your local community government meetings. you need to be talking to your representatives. you need to be out there Lobbying.
Just a few weeks ago, my library, me, my coworkers, we had to write letters, send emails, make phone calls, speak at council meetings, just to beg our aldermen to give us our usual funding. Which they didnât even give to us last year. Losing last yearâs funding forced us to cut staff, hours, and all of our databases. If weâd lost this yearâs funding? two positions would have been gone and we would have likely had to close on Saturdays. On Saturdays. The day of the week most of yâall working M-F jobs actually have time to go to the fucking library.
And do you want to know how much money we were asking? We were asking for an increase of approximately 13 cents a person.
13.
Fucking.
Cents.
ACROSS AN ENTIRE YEAR.
No one seems to understand how libraries are funded. Itâs not just Free Stuff. Itâs your tax dollars being paid back into your community. Itâs crowdfunding. The highest cost anyone in my community pays for the library a year is approximately $250. Divide that up. Thatâs just $4 a week. Thatâs less than a coffee. Itâs the equivalent of purchasing about 10 hardcover books a year. For that price, you could have access to every book that has ever been written, a place to go thatâs not a bar, programs for kids, teens, and adults, educated staff that can help you find the answers to your questions, and so much more.
You want these late-night libraries? You want all this stuff? Start fighting for it. Start showing up. Start making phone calls. Itâs not going to come out of thin air. Start fighting to erase the idea that taxes = evil. Start fighting to spread the understanding that taxes are what help us build a better society.
Make sure the people who represent you know that you want this. That this is where you want your tax dollars to go. That this is what you want them to support. That you are willing to see your tax bill go up a few more dollars for this.
Because otherwise? None of this is going to happen. Libraries are going to keep cutting their opening hours. Keep cutting staff. Keep cutting programs and databases and collections.
We NEED your support, and we need more than just a post on Tumblr. We need to see people show up and speak out.Â
Public libraries need your support for all of that and also because when we (librarians) lobby for ourselves, the usual reaction is âoh youâre only here because itâs your job on the line and itâs a cost center that weâre cutting from the budgetâ like our livelihoods arenât important enough as-is. But if the community (read: taxpayers) starts talking about it, suddenly itâs worth listening to.
this is true everywhere - libraries are a necessity, not a luxury. Also, homeless people are just as entitled to use the library as anyone else.
Buzzfeed just told me I belong on Tumblr and I donât know if I should feel seen or be a little insulted.

I thought I could figure out the referent, but no. I canât. Which murdered British boys? Someone go back and ask that elderly neighbor or Iâll never be able to sleep again.
King Edward V of England and Richard of Shrewsbury, Duke of York! They were murdered by their uncle!
Adhd really is like⌠bedroom is slightly messy it would be nice to tidy it some
bedroom is very messy I really should tidy up
bedroom is chaotic I NEED to tidy but my brain says no. Why. Whyyy.
I guess Iâll just have to watch where I step in here for the rest of my life. The mess is everywhere. Iâm one with the mess.
A sudden Need to Clean⢠makes you get the room looking like some fancy homes magazine cover, and you think âIâll never ever let it get that bad again, and thenâŚ
bedroom is slightly messy (uh oh)
ADHD organization tips:Â
-out of sight = out of mind, as in, if you canât see it, you will forget it exists. Set up your space such that, when everything is put away, you can still see it all (remove closet doors, shallow shelves so nothing is behind anything else, etc.)
-one-step access. None of this âto get to this thing, I have to get a stool, remove the box in front of it, grab the thing i want, put the box back, put the stool back-â nah. One step access. Not even âthis thing belongs behind this thingâ. Open drawer. Is thing right there? good. Have to move other thing to get to it? bad. Multi-steps means youâll rarely use it, and when you do, it will NEVER GET PUT AWAY AGAIN. Multi-step access is for deep storage and the items that get the least frequent use.
-an itemâs home is within armâs reach of where you are most likely to use it/want to put it down.
-items can have multiple homes and thatâs ok. I have three pencil/pen cans around my room, and like two or three places where Iâm âallowedâ to place things like my wallet and keys (and I am NOT allowed to place them anywhere else, because then Iâll lose them forever).
-examine the mess on your floor and determine the categories, then ask why those things are on the floor.Â
âWhy pile of clean clothes? because I didnât want to fold them up. Solution: fuck folding clothes, clothes only get sorted into categories and then dumped into drawers or crates. Thatâs fine and ok.Â
âWhy pile of kinda-dirty-but-can-still-wear clothes? because I donât want to put them away (i wore them once) but i donât want to put them in the laundry basket (theyâre not really dirty yet). Solution: have a home for âkinda dirtyâ clothes. I drape mine over the edge of my hamper.Â
â- a bunch of trash on your floor? Because the trash can is all the way over there. Solution: put a bunch of trash cans all around your room.
â- pile of papers on desk? because i need to put them in my files where theyâll eventually go. Solution: one of those cute magazine boxes on desk, specifically for âto fileâ papers.Â
-permanent piles on surfaces go in cute little boxes exactly where they already were. e.g. pile on nightstand consisting of wallet, keys, meds, phone, etc??? cute little box right on the nightstand for all that stuff youâll grab every day. Pile on desk of shit that you need to take back out to the kitchen but havenât yet? grab a little tray specifically to accumulate things youâll take back out to the kitchen at some point. box on nightstand for âstuff that could/usually does go in purse, but isnât there today for whatever reasonâ. Lil box for ârandom tiny shit that I should put away at some pointâ like hair ties, safety pins, push pins, etc.
-itâs ok for things to âliveâ in the place where youâll need them next, even if itâs not âawayâ, so long as those things arenât in your way. My pjs live on my bed, because Iâm going to wear them again tonight. If Iâm feeling fancy Iâll fold them and put them at the foot of the bed. Most days Iâll just yeet them on there and thatâs where they Belong. My meds belong in a lil box on my nightstand, because thatâs where Iâll set out my pills for the next day.
- âdump stationâ = right inside the door, where youâll divest yourself of everything automatically anyways. Hook for your purse, hook for workbag, a few hooks for coats etc (even though coats âliveâ in the closet, itâs ok for them to live here too), box/tray for wallet etc, place for shoes. Because Iâm gonna dump them the moment I walk in the door anyway, and if their âplaceâ isnât right there, theyâre just gonna end up part of the mess
-beware the corner piles. Observe them, question them, solve them. Shit accumulates in âdead spotsâ on the floor where you donât walk often. Watch those piles. What are those piles? Where are their homes? And why arenât they there? Are their homes too inaccessible? Did I accidentally start a new hobby and none of the supplies for that have a home yet? Is it something âin progressâ that I still intend to work on/do something with?Â
youâll still go through the cycles of accumulating mess and destroying it all in one go, but the mess accumulated will be so much less and so much easier to deal with.
@quousque this is amazing! Iâm gonna print this out and use it to fix my mess! Thank you so much!
HOLY CRAP THANK YOU
