i'm over halfway through reading Misery now and overall the changes made for the movie adaptation have been pretty reasonable to me--there will always be things that must be omitted or combined or changed entirely when transferring genres--but the one change that I really didn't see coming, and which is a direct result of the other changes, is that Annie Wilkes comes across much, much smarter in the book than in the movie

#stephen king #misery #the bee sting alone #but also paul constantly “teaching” her something and her getting irritated because she already knew it #there's only like one instance of it in the movie but in the book it just keeps happening #paul is coming across significantly more...#not patronizing exactly #but in the book it certainly feels more like he thinks himself to be very smart and annie very beneath him intellectually #i loved the bit where he realized that just because she was Constant Reader #she would not accept just anything #that it has to make sense #gave that scene so much more depth to see paul's thought process #every time he realizes that annie is smarter than he thinks she is? i eat it up
