2. youāre mistaking my contempt for these kinds of public defenses of this kink for contempt for people engaged in the behavior itself. but i will concede i was frustrated and flippant, so let me make it clear - i sympathize with people who are taken advantage of and absolutely and unequivocally believe that theseĀ āpupsā deserve far more than being treated like this by anyone, which is why iāve posted about this multiple times before. what i have little tolerance for is when people refuse to entertain any criticism of the behavior that they are promoting to others. this attitude that treats kink like a sacred and unquestionable institution helps no one but abusers. in recent years it has gone beyond twitter personalities to a ton of articles normalizing this kink in particular on gay media websites (pride, queerty, advocate, list goes on) regardless of the pitfalls - one has to look no further than Jack Chapmanās death last year to see a flagrant example of how toxic this dynamic can become. or, if thatās too anecdotal, you can look at a 2006 study of master/slave relationships that found that three quarters ofĀ āslavesā surveyed were pushed to engage in behavior they werenāt comfortable with. the fact that this kink continues to become more popular, especially among young men who are new to gay scenes, is partly a result of this cavalier and non-critical attitude. iāve seen people who dare to criticize it in gay spaces accused ofĀ ābetraying the ideal of sexual freedom that gay rights activists have fought forā which effectively conflates gay rights with a requisite acceptance of and uncritical attitude toward kink, which is a dangerous thing to do. i absolutely do look at that with contempt
