A German regional court has ruled that Google is directly liable for the content of its AI search overviews. According to the court, previou
Let’s fucking go
This is HUGE.
1. The court holds Google responsible for statements made by its AI, considering them Google's statements (search engines have limited liability for results in their engine as they're the words of other sites/companies/people), meaning when their AI lies/hallucinates they're liable for the defamation/harm resulting from those statements.
2. Google's defense that customers are generally aware of the lack of reliability and are responsible for fact checking was dismissed. As the court pointed out, that would "significantly diminish" AI Search's stated purpose and it can't be distinguished from Google's business practices/statements as a search tool.
3. Studies have found about 91% of Google's everyday AI responses are accurate, leaving millions of searches per HOUR with potential liability for falsehoods. 56% of correct responses weren't supported by the sources the AI listed. Both of which mean Google is now liable for a LOT more AI "errors."
4. Google was held liable for 80% of court costs in this case and this precedent is expected to reverberate around the world. This is a massive shift from the 3rd-party search provider role Google has previously played and it comes right as they've tied ALL searches to their AI search.
TL;DR Google reeeeeally stepped in it this time.
BLASPHEMY!!
Both are delightful

One of my Dr who pet peeves is when people talk about classic who like oh haha they had a shoestring budget and all the effects were tinfoil and bubblewrap, that's how doctor who is SUPPOSED to be, it doesn't need a budget! And it's like ok but classic who was made by professionals who worked very hard and often had good special effects ):<
People dunk on the tinfoil cybermen but like cmon these are complicated specially made costumes that were re-designed several times over the course of the 60s and they are good! Look at these guys they're great!
I adore 60’s and 70’s props and costumes!
Such imagination and talent to take what supplies they had and make outrageous aliens or robots
Visa is embedding its payment network into ChatGPT, allowing the chatbot to shop and complete transactions for users.
Visa said Wednesday that it has embedded its payment network inside of ChatGPT, empowering the chatbot to independently shop and complete transactions on behalf of its user. It means AI agents can not only recommend products but complete the purchase on the user’s behalf, at potentially any merchant that accepts Visa. The payment network’s previous attempts at this technological leap were confined to a single retailer or a small set of enrolled merchants.

@markscherz do you know what type of frog this is? I can't tell if its a small adult or a baby frog.
This is a juvenile Chacophrys pierottii, arguably the most comically proportioned frog ever. Here is an adult. If I had not taken this photo myself I would think it’s some kind of ridiculous meme render.
These are also the frogs that bury themselves in a backwards spiral that is seriously relatable.

Also they are related to the opah, the only fully warm-blooded fish in the world!

There’s something both intriguing and amusing about the book’s implication that the Martians picked humans as their primary food source not because we were the most abundant large animals in the area but specifically because their natural prey on Mars is a humanoid species. So they just perceive us as inherently food-shaped. Like if we discovered a planet populated by sentient cheetos and went “hellllll yeah I’m going there”
