Iâm not asking politely, Iâm telling you firmly.
if you support trump, you are a threat to my safety.
The Outbursts of Everett True was a comic strip that ran in papers from 1905 to 1927, wherein the aforementioned Everett True regularly beat the everliving shit out of rude people as a warning to anyone else who might consider being rude. Men have not only been taking up too much room on public transport for about as long as public transport has existed, but the people around them have been irritated about it for at least a hundred years. The next time someone tries to claim that manspreading is a false phenomenon, please direct them to this strip so that Everett True can correct their misconceptions with an umbrella upside the head.
I have never before heard of Everett True, but if he âregularly beat the everliving shit out of rude people as a warning to anyone else who might consider being rude,â I have a strong spiritual connection with him.
I fucking love him
i can imagine this guyâs voice very clearly in my head but i couldnât put a name to itÂ
He also jabs racists in the eye!
I love the justice grandpa of fists
Iâm very lucky to own a book thatâs a collection of most of these comics (sadly not all of them) and would highly recommend hunting these down if you can. Sorry for the lack of a scanner but phone photos will just have to do.
He was a enjoyable cuss who didnât care for war mongering.
Especially profitable war mongering and excuses for it!
He certainly didnât like selfish husbands and fathers!
Politicians who turned on their words once they got theirs werenât safe.
He said fuck the police!
He absolutely didnât like people ruining little things for kids.
He stood up for foreigners. Especially those doing their best to communicate with limited second language knowledge.
He was not having any tomfoolery when it came to gun safety and laws. Especially with youth involved.
You had better not abuse a animal with him nearby. Heâd right that wrong real quick!
And best of all him and his wife were both prickly cusses together. Relationship goals.
I have a new role model
đ
âjustice grandpa of fistsâ
Itâs nice to see a fat dude in a political cartoon thatâs NOT being used as shorthand for greed and corruption.
Hes like the personification of motherfucker unlimited
Reblogging this newer version of this thread with so many more strips I havenât seenâŚwhy did this character ever disappear. Where did you go, Everett.
we need him more than everâŚ

Trump will deliver killing blow to the USPS
The USPS is about to declare bankruptcy. Itâs at the center of the longstanding plans for disaster recover and has been since the Cold War. Itâs the only institution that could (for example) deliver covid meds to every home in America in one day.
https://pluralistic.net/2020/03/25/national-emergency-library/#going-postal
But Congress has decided not to bail out the postal service, despite Art 1, Sec 8 of the US Constitution: âTo establish Post Offices and post Roads.â
Maybe itâs because without a USPS we couldnât have a postal vote in 2020?
https://pluralistic.net/2020/03/27/just-asking-questions/#save-usps
The proximate cause of the post officeâs bankruptcy is the pandemic, but that is merely the finishing blow. The USPS was murdered in 2006, when Congress passed the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act.
https://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2020/04/will-the-united-states-post-office-become-a-victim-of-covid19.html
The Act gave the USPS a mere 10 years to âprefund its future health care benefit payments to retirees for the next 75 years.â That is, to set aside cash to pay medical bills for future employees who hadnât been born yet.

https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h109-6407
The USPSâs murder is straight out of the neoliberal playbook: â1 Defund, 2 claim crisis, 3 call for privatizatization, 4 profit!â
As Lambert Strether points out, it was a bipartisan act of murder, cosponored by the âcentristâ Democrat Henry Waxman.
Killing the USPS looms large in the Trump adminâs (nonmetaphorical, actual) privatization playbook, âDelivering Government Solutions in the 21st Century Reform Plan and Reorganization Recommendationsâ:
https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Government-Reform-and-Reorg-Plan.pdf
The proposals are for USPS to become a Wework clone or franchisee, but not to become a publicly owned bank - a common line of business for other nationsâ postal services, natural based on the amounts of cash they handle.
The USPS is the nationâs second largest employer of veterans, with 630,000 employees. Trump is about to allow it to collapse so that UPS, Fedex and other private firms can skim off the most profitable parts of its business and leave rural Americans totally isolated.
The loss of the USPS would mean the loss of the last truly universal federal program in America and would unduly hammer the people whom Trump claims to love â veterans and rural voters.

This was literally the prompted Essay topic of my SAT last year? So yeah, itâs very real and very recent. itâs not âfake newsâ or some shit. the article the SAT gave us was about how Bernie Sanders has been trying to save the USPS for years but the current administration keeps shooting him down

SIMILARLY: Bernadette Banner also makes her own clothes in a very mid-Victorian style, plus a bunch of other old-fashioned styles!!
Is he wearing a four-sleeved trenchcoat in the second one? Because he is a *vibe*
Bernadette Banner is freaking amazing! She shows her research and (mostly) historical drafting techniques in her videos and notes whenever she deviates from historically accurate methods. Her whole channel is awesome

hey folks, Iâm gonna introduce you to two very important fandom terms and they are watsonian and doylistÂ
they come (obviously) from the sherlock holmes fandom, and they are two different ways of explaining something in a story. say Iâm a fan and I notice that, in the original books, watsonâs war wound is sometimes in his leg and sometimes in his shoulder. the watsonian explanation is how watson (that is, a person within the story) might explain it; the doylist explanation is how sir arthur conan doyle (a person in real life) would have explained it.Â
sherlock explains the migrating war wound by making the shoulder wound real and the limp psychosomatic. the guy ritchie films explain it by having the leg wound sustained in battle before the events of the film and the shoulder wound happen onscreen. the doylist explanation, of course, is that acd forgot where the wound was.
this is very important when weâre discussing stuff like headcanons and word-of-god. I see this when people offer watsonian explanations for something, and then a doylist will say something like âitâs just because the author wrote it that way,â and I see it when a person is criticizing bad writing/storytelling (for example, the fact that quiet in metal gear solid v is running around the whole game in a bikini and ripped tights) and someone comes back with âbut thereâs an in-story reason why that happens!â (that reason being she breathes through her skin).
thereâs nothing wrong with either explanation, and really I think you need both to understand and analyze a text. a person coming up with a watsonian explanation has likely not forgotten that the author had real-life reasons for writing something that way, and a person with a doylist interpretation is likely not ignoring the in-universe justification for that thing.Â
but itâs very difficult (and imo often useless, though there are exceptions) to try to argue one kind of explanation with the other kind. wetblanketing someoneâs headcanon with âor it could just be bad writingâ is obnoxious; dismissing someoneâs criticism with âbut have you considered this in-universe explanationâ is ignoring the point of the criticism. understanding where someone is coming from is important when making an argument; acting like your argument is better because youâre being doylist when theyâre being watsonian or vice versa is not.

YA titles must contain one of the following words or you have to pay a fine:

I think I read that book once
You can just say SJMaas its okay
we have the technology to turn salt water into potable water and we donât use it
we have the technology to have unlimited solar energy and we donât use it
we have the technology to turn the Sahara desert into farm land and we donât use it
capitalism get on my damn nerves
people always talk about how capitalism is so innovative, but conveniently leaves out that the innovation is only for the sake of profit they never mention that when the prosperity of the entire population isnât profitable, everyone but the ruling class is left to die
We donât have the technology to turn the sahara into farmland, and even if we did, we shouldnât do it. Deserts are critical habitats, not vast empty waistlands.
Turning them into farmland would wipe out countless species. Thereâs also a reason little grows there. What we can do, is place solar farms out in deserts. A small fraction of the sahara could power the world. That is within our technological ability. This is where captialism strangles us.
Our food production is just fine. We produce too much. Our distribution system however, is not. It focuses on where the most money can be gained, to hell with everyone else. This is where capitalism strangles us.
We also donât need to turn salt water into fresh water. We need to manage our fresh water better. Use that tech to clean it, and stop poluting it in the first place with fracking and dumping sewage and replacing lead pipes. And to stop letting one or two conglomarates monopolize them. This is where capitalists strangle us.
The problem is not a lack of resources. We have plenty. The problem is captitalism mismanaging and ruining the plentiful resources we have. By opening up new resources such as âturning the sahara into farmlandâ or turning salt water into fresh water, we are just giving capitalists more resources to destroy and throttle. And destroying more critical environments. Weâre not actually fixing the problems.
